part history book part narrative story

History

Struggle for independence
In mid-19th century the Green Isle was economically weak and easily troubled by crisis. Between 1846 and 1849 the potato harvest had been completely destroyed and a famine ravaged the land, leading to mass immigrations of Irish to the United States. Gradually, voices grew louder in Great Britain, calling for an independence of Ireland from the British Crown. The Liberal Prime Minister William E. Gladstone initiated the separation of the island from the Anglican church in 1869 and a land reform in 1870. He failed in his attempts of pushing through a Home Rule for Ireland, however, and the political resistance in Ireland kept growing. The Home Rule League and the Irish Land League fought for autonomy as a first step towards independence. In 1914 self government was supposed to commence, but it was delayed with the outbreak of the Weltkrieg. The disappointment about this delay culminated - supported by German intelligence - in the suppression of the Easter Uprising in 1916. Continued unrests further delayed the way to independence, but in 1921 a peace treaty was finally signed between the Irish rebels and the British government. According to this treaty, all of Ireland was ceded to the rebels, the new country to be established was named the "Irish Free State", it would remain part of the British Empire, and the King would be the Head of State. After the signing of the treaty in December by Collins, Griffith and the rest of the treaty delegation, the Free State was established on January 1 1922. Michael Collins became Taoiseach and leader of the Irish Free State, but he was already planning the final blow to end British influence on Ireland.

Kingdom of Ireland

Encouraged by the German ambassador in Dublin, Franz von Papen, and in recognition of German's help in supplying the Irish Republican Army (IRA), in July Michael Collins officially proclaimed the establishment of the Kingdom of Ireland, calling to Prince Joachim of Prussia to rule the country. The British were outraged, but they were not willing to intervene and start a new war with Germany less than a year after the conclusion of the Weltkrieg and the signing of the Peace with Honour. Prince Joachim, sixth and youngest son of Kaiser Wilhelm II, accepted the offer with enthusiasm, claiming the regnal name of Brian III and announcing his decision to convert to Catholicism. However, his travel to Ireland was constantly postponed, due to German leaders' relunctance to further provocate the British and the fear of a British attack on the Prince. After more than three months of wait, Collins, wanting to conclude a bargain with the anti-German wing of the IRA, got rid of the Germans and abolished the monarchy in Ireland, thus aborting the dreams of Prince Joachim.

Republic of Ireland

On October 24 1922 Collins' government drafted a new constitution and declared the end of the Kingdom of Ireland, and the birth of the Republic of Ireland. When the 1925 British Revolution broke out, Ireland didn't intervene and let the Royal Family escape to Canada. Despite that, the exiled King George V still call himself King of the United Kingdom of Great Britain, Ireland, Canada and Australasia.
After more than ten years of rule, in 1936 Collins leads the nation without any serious opposition, riding on a wave of unbeatable public support. Officially its President, unofficially Michael Collins has become dictator of the Second Republic.

Looks nice, will follow this one :)

Political Leaders

MichaelCollins.JPG

Michael Collins
Fine Gael

Collins is the De Facto Dictator of Ireland. Although he enjoys huge public support there are forces waiting in the wings to see if this practicly self appointed president can rejuvenate the weary republic....

he has sympathies with both the entente remnant and Mitteleuropa, although he has some problems with them as well, given that he refused to allow a German prince to run the country and that he secced from the UK which could mean that Canada is wary of him.

however he has a deep seated hatred for the syndicists for their attempts to oust him and to change the emerald isle to a red one.

Éamon de Valera
Fianna Fáil

Eamon_de_Valera_c_1922-30.jpg

De Valera is a fairly new figure in politics, originally a IRA commander he has changed his attitudes to a more democratic and leftist postition. he is leader of the Republican Party (Fianna Fáil) the largest party in opposition. increasingly he is opposing Colin's Authoritarian policies and has a dedicated support base among many liberal Irish.

James Larkin
Irish Syndicalist Union

PicofJlarkin.jpeg

James Larkin, famous as an Trade Union Leader and left wing radical, he now heads the ISU, a combination of left wing Trade Unions and Political Parties such as the Labour party. An outspoken critic of the status quo, "Big Jim" has never been thought of as a serious figure in politics until recently. With syndicism growing like never before, James Larkin's opportunities have never been better...

Angus McGinty

The new Leader of the Irish Republican Guard, he is a Scottish refugee from the Union of Britian's harsh crackdown on nationalist movements in the north.

Well An Ireland KR AAR, that is new and pretty rare, in fact in KR(with the bad luck and the miracle of the Deutches) Ireland have a better history(being free more quickly and without the Ustler Issue), but again have the bad luck of being Sandwiched Between the UoB(who still have some claim in Eire) and the Red French, and that doesn't mean any good news, well, seeing how the AAR progress

And about the Sindy plans... well they want to become the Emerald Isle into a Ruby Isle(very bad pun,xd)

hooray!

I've finally got all the Leaders and tech teams ready! :D

Chapter I: From the Ashes

Lt. General Angus McGinty took one last look across the sodden troops of the Republican Guard and sighed. Why was the President ordering them to parade through the wet streets of Dublin for no apparent reason? Perhaps it was to ask him why the Guard was in such bad shape, but what could he say to that? That they had received no equipment since the Weltkrieg? That he was wrong to have disbanded the Irish Republican Army? Anyway it was probably nothing but another march to commemorate the idiotic President, who had disbanded most of his countries military strength in a time of world wide strife and chaos.

After walking away from the Parade he met with his second in command, Kane Griffon.
-"Get the car started Griffon."
-"Right away Sir." Replied Kane.

-"McGinty! How nice to see you General!" Exclaimed Premier O'Duffy.
-"Thank you Sir, it's Lt. General Sir." Replied the Scotsman.
-"Not any more General, you've been promoted to match your new post on the Council." Grinned O'Duffy.
-"Thank you Sir! What new post on the council?" Asked McGinty.
-"The president will explain all, follow me."

With that the Premier turned and walked down the vast Presidential Palace, with the newly promoted General following suit.

-"Morning Gentlemen." Announced Jovially Collins and they entered the Council Chamber. "And now with all present we can begin."
-Eoin O'Duffy stood up. "Thank you President. I would like to welcome General McGinty to the Council. As you may know the post of chief of staff is vacent and we would like you to fill it."
-"Sir, I'd be Honoured..." Angus began.
-"I'm sure you would." Smiled Collins. "Now Gerald fill us in on world events."

-"Thank you Sir. As you may know Germany is beginning to decline economically, and it could be wise to try and diversify our trading agreements in order to have some backup plans. We don't know what the Brits are up to, but I have just started an operation that may revile some details of their plans. That is all." Gerald Boland Finished.

-"Very good Gerald." Remarked President Collins "Meeting adjourned. Oh and McGinty, welcome to the Republican Council."

How the hell is Collins "ageing" and "senile"? He was born 1890, which's 46yo!:rofl:

apologies i got him mixed up with James Connolly, haven't read up on irish history for a while. and btw 20 years is a long time to be in power.

(besides every bodies senile when your young like me :D)

Heh, yeah, compared to youngsters like we are it sure is, but "senile" sounded a bit harsh considering the fact that 46 was anything but old for a president in the era... heck, it's relatively young for that position even today! Anyways, an understandable misconception. Collins is quite close to Conolly. :)
