The mod already restricts crusades against kingdoms unless it contains a holy site or contains/neighbors a same-religion province (as of the last version).

Other than that, it uses crusade weights -- which clearly favor Jerusalem, but there's not much we can do about how the game handles those.

Other than that, what would you have us do?

Quite frankly, I do not see a probem - Egypt is a pretty rich land in those times and a crusader state that has all of it's lands is bound to be strong.

It would.

Just as it was a crucial blow for the sunnis when Egypt got conquered by shiite Fatimids. The problem might be that catholic kingdoms might be little more stable and thus the main reason for this issue might be that the crusaders target and (conquer) Egypt at all.
But even that they did historicaly (tried but failed).

Ideal, but IMHO impossible solution would be to either disable crusades for the whole Egypt(enable it only on duchy level in this particular case) or make it that the surrounding areas (the eastern and western oases) would be more strongly a nomadic area which would only be tribal to Egypt (as it was historicaly) and thus if ever the crusaders manage to conquer the core of Egypt there would still be a force to re-take it.

The other solution would be to split Egypt into more kingdoms..

The solution is what the mod already has, which I just said:

Crusades can't be declared on a kingdom unless it contains a holy site (which Egypt does not, for Catholic) or contains/borders a same-religion province (which Egypt is unlikely to).

So problem solved.

After 20 years of KoJ existing, it is highly likely that k_egypt WILL border a catholic province. We go back to the issue.

If Jerusalem has already been established, and thrives, I have zero issue with a crusade being called against Egypt.

Btw is it possible to remove Jihads from targeting Byzantium all the time somehow? Seems like crusade values don't work correctly for Jihads.

That happens because Cyprus is part of k_byzantium, and lies within range of most Muslim provinces in the Levant. We've already lowered the weight on the kingdom, but beyond that the only thing that could really be done is to make Cyprus its own de jure kingdom.

Since what version it was lowered? And maybe it's actually easier to make Cyprus a kingdom? It's sad to see Byzantium steamrolled by the whole Sunni world in every game :)

I wish I saw Byzantium get steam-rolled once.

Anytime at Alexiad time-frame if only Sunnis don't get wiped out totally by Crusaders before they will start Jihads.
I usually play from the William the Conqueror bookmark. Fun fact: in that bookmark, Erik the Heathen is independent and at peace.
