Well, Russia is doing pretty good... as you may have guessed from the AAR, it controls large parts of Germany, as well as Poland and several Baltic nations. One might think that Comintern leads the way... but maybe not :)

Chapter 3: The Great Crusade

Italian Ice-cream - 1944

With our forces ready and fresh again, order to commence with Italian Ice-cream was given. On 1st May, Fernet and Becher arrived in Bolzano and engaged the Italian armies. The fight was short and brief, as the Axis armies in the northern Italy were not strong and badly trained. One day after, our victorious armies entered Venezia and Milano. And again, these jewels of Italy were in our hands soon. Then our armies split up. Fernet and Becher marched westwards, to the occupied France, while Rum fought its way south, to the very capital of Italy, Rome. Yet little resistance was encountered on both fronts, and Becher and Fernet soon stood on the liberated French ground of Grenoble and Toulon provinces.

War was coming to an end. It could be seen everywhere. Allied troops landing in north Africa began to push the numerous Italian armies there back to the desert, Americans landed in Spain and began the liberation of this country, British and French forces were encircling Paris, US Marine Corps with the Phillipinne army were beating the Japanese hard. And the Russian Bear seemed to be asleep. But the Union that proved to be a valuable ally in the most desperate of times, was acting strangely recently. Massive troop movements along the borders with the Allied nations, great military buildup... that all made the Allies wary.

Two weeks after the start of our Italian Ice-cream campaign, our armies stood undefeated at the gates of Rome. Rum army group was assigned with its conquering, and then proceeding further south to take control of all of European Italy. Meanwhile the two army groups, Becher and Fernet, were - and note that foolishly - sent into an offensive aimed at the city of Marseilles. The liberation of the city was just a matter of days, and High Command thought, that we would soon reach Spain, thus trapping the German armies with no access to their allies. But it was not to be. Recon reported several tank divisions as well as many superb trained infantry units in the capital of Italy, thus forcing us to pull Fernet and Becher back, hoping that British will keep the Spanish army distracted for long enough. Sadly, they were unable to do so. And on 29th July 1944, after vicious house to house fighting and great losses on both sides, Rome fell. However, the Spanish took advantage of our armies withdrawn from the liberated French regions of Marseilles and neighbouring provinces, and began with the counterattack. Fernet and Becher were immediately dispatched to the location. Rum was given orders to continue in the Italian Ice-cream operation by capturing the remaining Italian provinces located in Europe, except the islands which were unreachable destination for us, due to the lack of our naval force and even research in that field.

With the help of our brand new assault rifles and military equipment - including portable bridges and new battlefield doctrines - the Spanish were easily pushed back to Marseilles, and our armies were deployed in Toulon and Grenoble, to prevent further breakthroughs by the Spanish armies. Rum was also successful and soon we controled the whole peninsula. But due to the Italian supremacy on the open seas, it had to be stationed in Rome to prevent amphibious landings by the would-be liberating armies of Axis forces, trying to recapture Italy. Whole operation Ice-cream was almost 100 percent success. It ended weeks before than it was expected, and so the new infantry divisions with modern weaponry, including brand new artillery, ready by November, did not see any action. Instead they reinforced our three army groups, and many old and obsolete units were disbanded or merged with the new divisions.

On 8th November, in the presidental elections of the United States of America, democrat Alfred E. Smith won - against all expectations, similiarly to the previous elections in the USA. For the remainder of the year, no military actions were taken around the world, except some minor skirmishes in the Pacific. Instead our research was once again showing its progress and skill. First research in the field of tank warfare and production was made, and with great success! Army analysists said that the first medium or heavy tanks our High Command requested earlier would be available in maximally three years. A good news indeed. On Christmas, Allied leaders commenced with the talks about further strategies. Total liberation of France was the goal of most importance. While the ANZAC and US troops would fight the Italians and Spanish in Africa and Spain, British, French and Czechoslovakian troops will liberate France, and then head south to, hopefuly, meet US troops in Madrid.
USA requested that no action was to be taken by the Allies in Pacific, and Allies agreed. With the knowledge of things to come, year ended.

The "Chief Editor's Choice" articles from the Free Czechoslovakia newspaper. Please excuse the evil-looking font of the title, but they were all drunk and did not thought of the looks of it. But anyway, pretty much is described on the images themselves.

French Fries in 1945 - Best Served Hot!

With such ambititous plans of the Allied commanders, our High Command hastily prepared the plans for the great liberation of France, codenamed French Fries. All experts agree that our High Command uses the Cuisine Mk.III coding techniques. But anyway, the year of 1945 started with great promising scientifical breakthroughs and engineering successes, for example as the 100mm artillery pieces or the new logistics and command doctrines. They would become very useful in the upcoming operation French Fries.

High Command pointed out two major objectives that were to be achieved first. The former capital of Vichy France, Vichy, now being used as a German base and command post for the whole French region, and the city of Toulouse, used for a similiar reason by the Spanish corps in the occupied France. Becher under the command of Field Marshal Ingr would be assigned to liberate Vichy, while Field Marshal Vojcechosky and his Fernet army group were set on the objective of Toulouse. The armies were given the green light on 15th May. The Spanish divisions were weak and poorly equipped, and posed no threat to our modern armies. Two weeks after the commencing of French Fries, Becher engaged the German troops in Vichy and claimed the city. Ingr and his divisions would be then given the orders to meet with British armor in Normandy and free Paris. The would-be capital of what was now Germany. The new home of Hitler.

Meanwhile, Fernet under the command of Field Marshal Vojcechosky easily defeated the combined armies of Germany and Spain in the southern regions around Toulouse, and High Command decided that it would be easier to pursue the withdrawing enemies than just to liberate Toulouse.

Finally, on the 5th June of 1945, Becher met with four armoured divisions of the United Kingdom, and began the siege of Paris. The town was defended heavily - several divisions of well trained and well equipped motorized infantry were stationed in the immediate vicinity. Extreme fights erupted. The Axis forces were not giving up the city easily. For every dead German soldier, two Allied died. For every German tank destroyed, two Allied were blown to the kingdom come. For every bullet fired, three German came in response. But our armies fought in the name of liberty, in the name of the Great Crusade. In the name of all free people of France. We were victorious. Losses were extreme, but Paris was free. The town itself was a smoking ruin, but Paris was free. The Eiffel tower was severely damaged, but Paris was free.

People celebrated, after years of the Axis oppression, they were free once again. People cheered with joy and relief, as the British tanks entered the Champs-Elysées. Thousands of flowers were flying in the air, and the armoured beasts seemed as big bouquets more than steel harbingers of defeat to our enemies. Atmosphere of victory was in the air, atmosphere of the Great Crusade being successful. People smiled after so long. The word in the streets was liberté. But every coin has two sides. Traitors were executed by the eager French freedom fighters. Wives of German soldiers were raped or killed. Everyone could be found guilty. The signs of chaos were showing in the whole city. Paris may have been free from the bonds of fascist regime, but it still had to be free from the memories and distrust learnt by the city from the days of occupation.

Anyway, while the British tanks were dispatched to engage the German Panzer divisions north of Paris, the only threat in northern France now, Becher army group was called to the southern France, to help Fernet in the fights with the remains of once glorious Wehrmacht. Victory after victory was experienced after the skirmishes with broken German and Spanish armies. Soon, only a couple of square miles would be what remained of Germany. And even those miles were liberated from the Axis stench. 29th June 1945, Germany exists no more. Not a single house, town or a region has the German flag waving above itself. Not a single soldier of Wehrmacht is hostile anymore.
Germany surrenders. Germany is no more. The words that flew all around the world in the brief seconds of that day.

The words of victory.

Ladies and gentlemen, this is the London radio. We have received the news that Allied troops defeated the Wehrmacht and Waffen SS divisions in Paris. Whole world cheers. We have also received the news that Hitler is dead. I repeat, Hitler is dead...

But there was still the Axis threat. Japan fought with USA in the Pacific, and a savage fight it indeed was. Italy still held large portions of Africa, and Spain was still a threat in Europe. Immediately the Allied troops in France were sent to Spain, to help the US forces in defeating the fascist regime. In the same time, the latest technologies were presented to the army. New artillery, new armoured vehicles, new infantry weapons. Our armies were more than a match even for the best of the best in the army of Spain.

Finally, the day in which the Czechoslovakian army would cross the border with Spain was set as 1st January, year 1946. Until then, our armies could rest. In the previous years, they were put to the test - and they succeeded. They were a vital part in the Great Crusade. It was them who liberated France. It was them who knocked the Italy out of Europe. It was Czechoslovakian army that sacrificed for the ideals of liberty and democracy. As well as the US army. The army of Commonwealth, the army of France, the army of every free country on the face of this planet, the army of the United Nations, the army that was to defeat the Axis threat. The army that was to bring the fight to the very doorsteps of our enemies. The army that waged the Great Crusade. The victorious army - no doubt about that.

The image shows the progress of the War in France. Clockwise: The Allied beachhead in Normandy and overview of France; Liberated France with the British Zone Of Control; Victorious armies in Paris. The year of 1945 will forever be remembered by the world as one of the most important years of the whole War.

Swan Song of 1946

The invasion of Spanish territory began. In the first days of January, our troops entered Bayonne, Barcelona and Bilbao. They met little or no resistance of disarrayed troops surprised by the Allied attack. However, even though the Axis forces in Spain were weak, the need for more cooperation and unification arose in the ranks of the Allied troops around the globe. Thus, on the day of 7th January, year 1946, great United Nations conference was held in London, where several points were discussed. First point was the ultimate sharing of command within the alliance. Each operational theatre would have its appointed commanders, no difference if the armies there were from France, and commanders from the USA. Following this event, our High Command was given the control of operations in Spain. Other points from the talks in London included the ban of every fascist element in the world, splitting the occupied and annexed regions and lands and many other issues which will not be described here.

Back on the battlefield, our troops fought one victorious battle after another. The greatest enemy showed to be not the armies of Axis powers, but the rough terrain and weak infrastructure in the backwater regions of Spain. However, thanks to the help of several Mountain troops divisions from the United States, even these problems were overcome. 18th February, our troops entered Madrid and arrested the key government and military officials. But still the elements of Spanish army were to be pursued east and northeast from the capital. With our troops sent back on the way home through France, they were assigned to this task. Isolated and unorganised troops soon surrendered. No active fascist threat in Europe existed, as of now. Allied soldiers sighed in relief.

Hello and good afternoon, Prague, this is the Radiozurnal 1 station... we bring you great news for today, because as of 29th February, the threat of Axis Spain exists no more. Yes, I repeat, the Spain surrenders! The combined troops of United States, United Kingdom, France and Czechoslovakia captured the capital several days ago, and now the last armed elements were forced to lay down their weapons. What a cheerful day for Europe! With such a great victory, no Axis force in Europe threatens the Free World anymore! But we must not be fooled, for many nations still linger in the shadows of fascist regime - Italy with its massive holdings in Africa, Peru and Argentina....

With the victory in Spain, United Kingdom annexed most of its territories. They would be split up rightfully after the war, anyways. Our victorious troops marched back to their Italian bases, where they were issued improved assault rifles from Zbrojovka Brno, the Utocna Puska vz.46/A types, as well as many technological gizmos like radio sets, radars and improved anti vehicle mines. Who would have thought that, after the elimination of Axis threat in Europe, the ever-neutral nation of Switzerland would join the fascist cause on 21st March. What a foolish move, when we think of the numerous Soviet divisions north of Bern, as well as our Becher and Fernet army groups in the immediate southern vicinity of the country. In very few days, Bern was conquered by the Red Army, and other territories were claimed by our troops. On 2nd April, Switzerland existed no more, a sad event, but triggered by its own will. But as seen in future, it was not enough to show the enemies of freedom the wrongness of their cause.

Government and Allied High Command denies any accussations of the war against Switzerland as a tool to gain more power, should any conflict in Europe with the Soviet Union arise. More controversial news: one day after the victory against the treacherous Switzerland, one American and one British bomber flights accidentaly bombed the countryside near Geneve, severely crippling industry and infrastructure in the region. Investigation immediately began and several French communications officers were punished for such a grave mistake that resulted in the loss of a hundred and four lives of innocent civilians.
Once again, Allied High Command denied any connections with this incredibly unlucky event and the presence of a anti-liberty resistance movement in the said province.

With the coming of June, Italy launched several amphibious attacks from northern Africa in the direction of the Italian peninsula. These met little success, as the Rum army group was stationed in Rome for this very reason. However, what concerned our High Command was the disturbing presence of Italian fleets in the Adriatic sea. Recon and intelligence were working on 150 percent to find out what was behind the growing numbers of Italian ships. A grave discovery was made - Yugoslavia was almost on the edge of allying with the Axis powers! Becher and Fernet were immediately sent to the border with Yugoslavia, and war was declared on 10th June. Even with the help of Italian armies, the resistance in Yugoslavia was scarce, and if encountered, their armies would soon surrender to our supreme infantry divisions with unmatched artillery support. It took two weeks of victories to reach Sarajevo, and capture it. Meanwhile Soviet forces were advancing from the east and south, thus effectively splitting the country into two halves - the Allied and the Soviet one. On June 27th, Yugoslavia was defeated, and the Italian fleets were pulling back to the shores of north Africa. More concerning than this was the building of fortifications and division movements on the Soviet side of the border. But that was not our immediate concern.

Meanwhile in the world, United States Marine Corps landed in Peru and in managed to defeat the Peruan army in two short days. USA then annexed the nation on 27th July. One day after, India declared independence from the United Kingdom, and met no political resistance in their effort. United Kingdom was a part of the Allies, fighting for freedom, not oppressing others, after all. However the ties with UK remained strong, and India joined the Allied cause. What followed in this year was a great economic, scientific and engineering boom. Several naval research stations were established, so that our armies could help in the war against Italy in Africa, naval warfare was experiencing a boom, marine divisions could now be fielded, modern artillery pieces were a hit, modern technologies were discovered, as well as mass production of plastic materials were built. Even the airforce research continued to bring its fruit of multirole fighter prototypes... and much much more. A golden age it truly was. A well deserved golden age.

With many discoveries, 1946 ends. For 1947, scientists prepared many surprises, too. And Allied High Command had something special for the Italians...

What would a report from the battlefield be without some proper images? See the Czechoslovakia spread from Prague to Rome... that makes a great deal of many beverages available for low prices!

I apologise for not adding another part asap, but the host where I host my pictures is down... and I want the "full pleasure" to be served to you. So when the host is up again, be prepared to enjoy the very last part of the final chapter of my AAR.

Thanks for understanding.

1947: To All Things There Is An End

The year 1947 was here. It was for sure, that the War would end. Allied forces landed in Tunis and began to push the Italians to the desert. Resistance was futile. British, French and American troops advanced further into the desert undefeated. Soon, only the few regions of Ethiopia would mark the land of Italy. And in the summer of this year, Ethiopia was surrounded and besieged. As a side note we must state that our troops did not take any action in the great African campaign, as we were unable to ship a substantial force to the southern battlegrounds, and our allies' navies could not be used because of various reasons. But we still managed to support the Allied cause nonetheless.

Meanwhile, the golden age continued in our Republic. Our scientists developed electromechanical computers, improved radio sets, advanced radar utilites, as well as our engineers managed to complete their work on several cannons, artillery pieces and special weapons and equipment for warfare in the various regions of the whole planet. Our military specialists also developed new doctrines, tactics and strategies to be used by our modern armies, while our naval research facilities produced the first fruits of their research and allowed our factories and drydocks to produce the very first advanced vessels. Our factories were equipped with the latest machines and automated tools. At last, four tank divisions are deployed! The Skoda Vz.47 tanks, one of the best in the class of medium tanks, are immediately assigned to our army groups. We are indeed a nation that is not to be taken lightly.

The year of 1947 was calm, compared to the years before. Allied troops were pushing towards Ethiopia, USA and Philippines were beating the Japanese back, and our armies did not take part in any military action for the remaining time of this year. Autumn came, and people sighed with relief. Europe was being rebuilt with the ideals of Democracy, and on the other, eastern, side of the Old Continent, Soviets united the occupied nations into one big communist country. Tensions were rising. The west and the east, the factions that worked together successfuly towards the goal of defeating the fascism in the world, were to be separated. No more common goals, common enemy. The situation escalated with closing of the Soviet borders with Allied nations. Europe was divided.

Meanwhile, in the Pacific, Allied forces successfuly liberated Philippines as well as many islands in the region. Soon, general MacArthur would set his foot on the soil of Japan itself. The end of the Axis regime around the world was near. British and Canadian troops were fighting with the remains of the Italian army. The end of the War was near. On 20th December, the A-Bomb was used against the Italians.

On 1st January 1948, all remaining Axis powers surrendered. Allies were victorious. The World was Free once again.

But at what cost...

The War is over now. The world can rest, but its future is not sure. The Soviet Union's armies linger on the borders as a vulture waiting for its prey. Walls have risen and have split Europe in two. War might be over, but the situation in Europe is uneasy for now. Few short weeks from the official end of the War, a great process was held in Nurenberg with the remaining Axis officials, be it officers or politicians. They are accussed of war crimes and the rules of engagement, as well as other violations. The result? Several lifelong sentences, decades of jail for those not sentenced for the rest of their lives. No death penalty was given.

Already too much needless killing has come to pass to this point.

I've certainly not read every AAR on here, but that is most definetly up there with the best that I have read. Well written, great screenshots, and best of all it actually sounded like a good game.

Excellent work :D
