Prince Aemond “One-Eye” Targaryen

The king is dead. My father Viserys the First who had reigned as the Lord of the Seven Kingdoms for the past twenty six years died recently of a common illness and his death has sparked war. My beloved father, while a great man and king alike, had made one great mistake during his many years sitting the Iron Throne.

King Viserys I

In his early years he was wed to Aemma Arryn of the Vale but only one child grew to adulthood, my half sister Rhaenyra Targaryen. In 105 A.C her mother Aemma Arryn died in childbirth leaving Rhaenyra as heir to the Iron Throne. My father named her Princess of Dragonstone and had the lords of the kingdom swear fealty to her as heir to the Iron Throne. But that was not the end of the story. Only a year after Aemma Arryn’s death, my father remarried to Alicent Hightower, the daughter of the Hand of the King Otto Hightower in 106 AC. In the following years she bore him four children: My eldest brother Aegon, my sister Helena who was wed to Aegon, myself and our youngest brother Daeron. Despite three more sons my father foolishly refused to change the succession and left Rhaenyra as his heir. This led to the court in kings landing to be split in two. The greens who saw that my father was wrong in leaving Rhaenyra as his heir, as the council of 101 AC left a precedent of female being unable to take the throne and thus rightfully supported by brother as heir to the Iron Throne and the blacks who supported my half sister Rhaenyra for the throne in herattempt to steal me and my brother's birthright. With my fathers death, the greens in Kingslanding led by my mother and Criston Cole, the Lord Commander of the Kingsguard, convinced Aegon to take what was rightfully his.

King Aegon II

Rhaenyra instead of acknowledging Aegon as the rightful king, has instead raised her forces on Dragonstone and has sent messages to the lords of the seven kingdoms and many traitorous lords have joined her They will be punished along with Rhaenyra for attempting to usurp a throne that she has no claim to. I shall aid my brother in purging them from this realm on the back of my dragon Vhaegar. This war will be bloody as it is the first civil war in our houses history and there is no doubt that many Targaryens and their dragons will perish in this war alongside tens of thousands soldiers and civilians alike but i am certain that we shall prevail. We shall show the traitors that we stick to our houses words. We shall bring fire and blood to the attempted usurpers and secure the kingdoms for generations to come.

Cristen Cole
Lord Commander of the Kingsguard

The city of Kingslanding had gone silent as the sun set into the horizon. The only people on the streets were the patrolling Goldcloaks. The captain of the Goldcloaks, Luthor Largent had increased the city watch to around three thousand men in order to ensure the city was safe from possible attacks by Rhaenyra and from traitors within the walls.

I walked from the walls of the Red Keep and into the great hall alongside some men at arms that I hired as extra security. King Aegon sat on the throne looking quite bored as the members of the small council advised him on the best ways to pursue the war. Chief amongst them was Otto Hightower, grandfather of the the king and Hand of the King. The throne room was being guarded by over a hundred goldcloaks and another fifty Targaryen men at arms and knights.

I walked up to the steps of the throne and gave a deep bow.

“What is it Ser Cristen?” Aegon sounding as bored as he looked.

“My lord I have a report on the musterings of the soldiers.” I responded.

“Tell Otto about them, I am going to retire for the night.” the King replied

“My lord there is still plenty to discuss. We still haven’t decided the supply routes for the army.” Lucos Hayford the master of coin said sounding somewhat irritated.

“You can discuss them with Otto and Cristen.”

With those words the king stood from the Iron Throne and walked out of the hall towards Maegors Holdfast followed by two members of the kingsguard and several Targaryen men at arms.

“I believe I should retire as well.” Lucos said. “Tell me of your plans in the morning and I will plan the best ways to pay and supply them.”

Once Lucos had left with his small retinue Otto Hightower turned to me.

“What news do you have Ser Cristen?”

“Your nephew has declared for us as you said he would. A host of four and a half thousand Hightower men are marching to Kingslanding has we speak, led by your son Gwayne and another four thousand are being gatherd.”

“That’s at least some good news for us.” Otto replied. “Now we have been discussing the best ways to conduct this war. How many men do we have gathered at Kingslanding?”

“Five thousand eight hundred, over half of which are dismounted knights and men at arms. We can gather another four thousand in two moons. I believe our first cour-”

“I propose split our forces. One will march to to my seat at Harrenhal.” Larys Strong, the master of whisperers, cut in. “From there they can march on the Riverlands. The lords of Darry, Blackwood and Acorns Ridge have risen against us. If we can crush them it will ensure the Riverlords will not remain neutral if they do not join our forces. The other half will take the crownlands. Even if the enemy outnumbers them, if their commanders have dragons, numbers won't matter much.”

Otto scoffed

“You are going about this all wrong ser.” he said “We need to march south and group up with the Hightower army. Once we get them we should sail to Dragonstone immediately to end the war.”

“Old man your plan would leave the rest of the crownlands undefended and Dragonstone is well defended.” Larys argued

“The defences don’t matter when we have dragons.” Otto said sounding annoyed as if he was trying to explain something to a small child.

“They have dragons too old man or have you already forgotten. I guess your mind is going faster than you thought.”

Otto stepped closer Larys

“You not insult me boy! You are lucky that your army is needed at the moment or I would have you thrown in the black cells for your impertinence!”

“Was that a threat old man!” Larys roared. “I have informants all over Westeros. How long do you think it will be before they find something you don’t want to get out? I'm not someone you want to make an enemy of!”

“Quiet both of you!” I shouted, having had enough of the two of them. It is well known within the court of Kingslanding that Larys wanted Ottos role as Hand of the King and would do whatever he could to undermine him but this was no time for infighting.

“You two are fighting like little children. Both of you plans are foolish. We cannot split our forces as we won't have enough men to garrison the castles we take and we can't leave Kingslanding undefended. Rhaenyra and the Velaryon fleet can launch an amphibious assault. We must march on the Crownlands with our whole force and force the lords to yield and if they Blacks attack the capital we can turn around and reinforce the city. The Lannister’s declared for us, they can take the Riverland rebels.”

“The goldcloaks and the garrison can hold out against an attack from the Velaryons. The walls are strong.” Otto continued to argue.

“Aegon proved that walls don’t stop dragons over a hundred years ago and the Blacks have nine dragonriders compared to our four and even then Daeron is to young to ride into battle and Aemond is at Storms End to win the Baratheons to our cause! Have you forgotten or is your mind really going?” Otto sighed in defeat. “Alright.” he said. “We will do it your way.”

“Good. Now Larys, you claim to have spies all over Westeros. Send them to discover Rhaenyra and her allies battle plans.”

“It will be done my lord.”

I nodded my head at the two of them before turning my head to Maester Orwyle who had been standing silently in the background.

“Maester send ravens to the armies we have mustered. Tell them to march towards Hayford.”

“Send another message to Lord Gilbert of Farring Cross.” Otto ordered.

“About what my lord?”

“Now that the traitor Ardrian Rosby has joined the blacks, we are in need of a new Master of Laws and Lord Gilbert is currently the best option for us.”

“I shall send these messages my lord.” Orwyle said.

He gave a quick bow and left the Hall.

“I am leaving the city to command our armies. I hope the king will follow once he is well rested.” I said to the remaining members of the council.

At that I turned and left the keep along with my men at arms and ordered a stableboy to bring us our horses. We rode out of the city and after a half hour ride we saw the many fires and tents in the camp that had been set up to house the near six thousand men. I rode into the camp and dismounted my horse and was greeted by Tyland Lannister, the man who I had left in charge of the army in my absence.

Tyland Lannister
“Welcome lord Cristen, how was the meeting.”

“More of a shouting match then a meeting to be honest. We decided on my plan since it was the only sensible one.”

Tyland gave a short smirk before speaking again “Are we remaining here or are we going on the march once dawn arrives?”

“We are marching to Hayford to connect with the rest of our armies. Now if you will excuse me I am quite tired.”

“Of course my lord, your sleeping quarters are ready.”

“Thank you Tyland.”

I walked through the camp and to the center where my tent was located. I raised the flap and entered the tent and lied on the bed, falling to sleep in seconds.

Yes, there doesn't seem to be all that much agreement.
