Denmark gets event 36204 ("Slaves rising") in 1848, where they get the option to free all slaves or the slaves on the Danish West Indies will get +10 militancy.
First of all there (correctly) are no slaves on the Danish West Indies. Second of all, as we all know Denmark passed a law in 1792 which took effect in 1803, that forbade all use and sale of slaves in ALL Danish dominions (as the first European state IIRC).

So what is the purpose of this event? To take 500 gold from Denmark without giving anything in return?
And why does Denmark get slaves in provinces they colonize when slavery is strictly forbidden (and has been for 33 years at game start) in all Danish dominions?

First of all you are talking tosh ;)

Denmark banned the trading and importation of slaves in 1803. It did not ban the ownership of slaves. A similar situation existed in Great Britain until the slaves were emanicipated in 1833. denmark did not free all its slave in the Danish Wet Indies (who certainly existed) until 1848.

The problem with the pops in the Danish West Indies is an issue I raised before 1.03 but was not "corrected".

Damn... you are right ... I've checked on the net ...
all these years with misunderstood information (I bet it's all my history teacher's fault)... sob sob ... I always thought we were so damn progressive ... ownership allowed but not selling ... tsk tsk tsk ... god damn hypocrites ... grumble grumble ... putting me in such an awkward position ... .... ... oh well.

Then why ARE there no slaves before 1848 in the Danish West Indies if ownership is legal?

Cos PE didn't ok the changes before 1.03. Don't be too down on Denmark - you were the first European country to formally outlaw the slave trade (the UK just had an "understanding" that it was an unEnglish thing to do :))

No Paradox Entertainment (although Peter would have been a good source I admit) :D :D :D

There was an English high court ruling in 1830 (as I recall, though perhaps incorrectly) which held that, since England was a "land of free men," one automatically became free just by setting foot on English soil. This ended slavery in England completely, and formed a legal basis for English policies from that point forward. (We studied this briefly in law school when I was there some years back.) Prior to that there was a growth of public opinion regarding it being reprehensible. (As you describe.)

Denmark was indeed the first to formally outlaw slave trading, and should get a lot more credit for this than it does. (After all, look at all the blood my countrymen shed trying to resolve the issue.)

We'll address this in VIP, if we haven't already done so.
