When Aner Count of Marsan dies defending the cross in Iberia, his only daughter fills in his position. What followed is something you could only hear about but never see. This is the legend of Flòra Blanca de Marsan and a kinswoman determined to follow her footsteps.

Let's begin.

Introduction

May 1070, after multiple successes against the Catalans in the Spanish March, the Moors of Al-Andalus was approaching Barcelona. They had by then almost completely crushed the Christians defending the very border seperating the Moors and the Franks. The frankish realm to the north led by Philippe I, sought by Catalans to aid their defense, swore to defeat the Moors.

Meanwhile, Aner de Marsan, a lowly count in the keep of Roquefort sired his first ever child, naming her after her mother's cousin (who Aner coincidenally also wanted to murder) Flòra Blanca.

In the summer of 1073, after a stalemate was beginning to worry the French King. The Count of Marsan, Aner, along with all the other French vassals were called to arms. By fall, to the joy of the Catalans a 6,000 strong french army besieged the moslem stronghold of Lleida. In the few days that came, the French were successful.

Unfortunately, Aner had taken a blow while leading a group of men at Lleida, he died in combat. His body was never recovered.

Flòra Blanca de Marsan, his only child, at 3 years old stepped into his father's shoes.

The Legend

Duke Guilhèm VIII of Aquitaine, upon his returning from the war, heard of he developments in Marsan. It was here that his nephew (Daughter of her brother, the former Duke of Aquitaine) Aines was, she had just been widowed, and that she had a daughter named Flòra Blanca de Marsan.

Fast forward, 1088, 15 years after, just as Flòra Blanca was left to rule by herself out of regency, she immediately demands the dutchy of Aquitaine off Duke Guilhèm VIII by virtue of her mother's claim, her grandfather's title. And this she is successful.

maybe her relationship with the King forced Guilhèm to submit.

Almost immediately she becomes the Flòra I Blanca Duchess of Aquitaine, Countess of Marsan. Duke Guilhèm VIII, now Duke Guilhèm II "the Sad" of Gascony, shamed and belittled, sought to reclaim Aquitaine just a year after the grant.
