Introduction
May 1070, after multiple successes against the Catalans in the Spanish March, the Moors of Al-Andalus was approaching Barcelona. They had by then almost completely crushed the Christians defending the very border seperating the Moors and the Franks. The frankish realm to the north led by Philippe I, sought by Catalans to aid their defense, swore to defeat the Moors.
Meanwhile, Aner de Marsan, a lowly count in the keep of Roquefort sired his first ever child, naming her after her mother's cousin (who Aner coincidenally also wanted to murder) Flòra Blanca.
In the summer of 1073, after a stalemate was beginning to worry the French King. The Count of Marsan, Aner, along with all the other French vassals were called to arms. By fall, to the joy of the Catalans a 6,000 strong french army besieged the moslem stronghold of Lleida. In the few days that came, the French were successful.
Unfortunately, Aner had taken a blow while leading a group of men at Lleida, he died in combat. His body was never recovered.
Flòra Blanca de Marsan, his only child, at 3 years old stepped into his father's shoes.
