Ah! Fresh mountain air... I think Pollyanna was around. Your Ethiopia is doomed! :p

It is fun to read. Not another success story from the start, neither a lost quest at the end of the first post...

I'll be following.

Vladislav: Thats a really good idea! Onlyu probblem i can see though is it deprives you of a muslim tech neighbhor. But it certainly would give you room to grow. if this aventure fails. I might start again with the strategy you suggested.

GaiusC: The vassalization fee is not all that bad. It takes half of your tax income. But ethiopia gets most of its money from its goldmines in Kefa. So i am still able to make a good amount of money.

Newdews: Exactly for the time being this is the best situation.

Sprites: Yah the way i see it Ethiopian culture and religion are respected with this deal. As well i live to fight another day.

GregElsho:Thanks Gregelsho, I will. Haopefully things will look up for Ethiopia.

Gabor: I like the image, I am actually becoming quite fond of my Mamluke overlords. I will feel guilty when the day comes for me to backstab them. But yes now is a time for Ethiopia to reflect and reform to meet the future.

Iwanow: Yeah, I plan to make many changes in Ethiopia over the next half century.

Boris Ze spider: Yeah realistic, But i hope to make an unrealistic ending to this aar, with Ethiopian armies storming london.

Ill Loco: thank for reading. Yeah Ethiopia is bound to have a rough start. But i am getting ready to reform it and it will soon be quite a regional power

A long forced Peace!

Without any foriegn policy options I begin the long haul towards centralization and innovation that I will need to reform my nation.

I had hired a 6 star government advisor, Hopefully with the help of such great men we can leave the tribal aspect of our society behind.

I get a new king, He is a good administrator. But his heir look like he was dropped a few times on the head. Hopefully i can get the first westernization done during Dengels reign, before his son takes over.

I take this opportunity to revoke some of the laws that i had passed previously. Its a rather bad stability hit. But as i move towards centralization i dont want to have any spurious laws that also increase my revolt risk.

At last! I can build forts, I start off building in Gonder and tigre, but then start to mint. Having a fortified country is worth having a bit of inflation,

My amazing advisor pays off. Soon after i reach tech level four in Government technology. I can now get my first idea.

I Take Bureauacracy. As you can see, in the mod i am using it has been much improved. It provides 10 percent instead of 5. More magistrates. And what attracted me to it the most: reduces government tech costs. I hope to leave tribal as soon as possible.

Years of peace pass, I am one slider move away from being able to westernize.

The old chief dies, leaving me with his idiot of a son.

And we all know that he plans to live for a long time!

Interesting start and a nice challenge. I'll follow.

Hopefully you get another high ADM ruler soon. When you do, we'll see how the Mamluks do against a somewhat modernized and fully fortified Ethiopia. :D

Enewald. Although i do have high inflation at this point. 8 percent. I am able to stop the inflation rising with my advisor. I might make it my next idea.

Sprites: it was a tie between national bank and Bureaucracy, I just really wanted the extra magistrates and the research bonus.

IanDury: Sadly the closest Orthodox nation is tver. And Novgorod is the most powerful orthodox nation. Georgia. Byantium. Wallachia and Moldavia have all been destroyed, so i am on my own.

Sweboy, They have been having quite a few wars, but appear to be quite stable. Hopefully they will get themselve into a bad conflict. But the ottomans are quite weak and are not posing any challnege to them. Looks like the timurids and castille are my best hopes for a chance to stab the mamlukes in the back

Malrous: I have a high admin heir, and an evil plan for my current king. I think he may go off to defeat the natives in those provinces that border me. But yes, the war for Ethiopian independance should be fun.

Boris: I had considered that as well. But my stability costs dont seem to be terrible. I can ussually regain full stanility in 4 to 5 years after a 5 stability hit.

Death of a King

My new king decides that since he is not respected at home.. He will make a name for himself subduing the tribes that soround the Ethiopian nation. Then he will have his peoples respect.

Oh dear. Susenyos died fighting the natives. How very sad... So very sad! Long live Minas the first!

Even better the heir of minas is a 7/7/7 ruler!

I make an alliance with the mamlukes, I still need time to build up. I make my first contact with fellow christians nations in a rather hostile way:

The last slider move is made allowing me to westernize. I fight a pretender and some reactionary rebels. But other than that it goes off without a hitch. My research rate has just doubled. I am a muslim tech nation.

I reach level 5 land tech, and get slightly better soldiers. but i need to modernize my military.

I now have a much better view of the world around me now as well

The Middle east in 1489

I now have to decide if i wil modernize my military the first chance i get, even though it would make the next step of westernization harder. As well i dont want to conquer massive amounts of muslims territories and not have the missionaries to convert them.

But then again, i can enact som decisions and national ideas that will give me missionaries, and mecca and Jerusalem are not that far away. So maybe i can stay at innovative and have plenty of missionaries.

Great job westernizing! The question regarding the military modernization has to be: can you get anywhere to westernize further without modernizing it? I guess that you'd need some fortunate outside help of some kind for the answer to be yes...

Enewald: Yeah, maybe not. If anything the timurids are going to be my allies for the time being.

Malurous: I think i will have to upgrade the military, I wont be able to make many advances if i dont. I will just have to accept that I will have to make extra slider movements.

Soarom: Soon it will be Ethiopia on the offensive!

Social Unrest and Independence!

The somalians of awsa decide they like Ethiopian food better. good for them!

The old chief dies! And his amazing son Ya kob comes to the throne. Hopefully i can get everyting i need to get done over the next few years. Yacob is 30 when he comes to the throne and his son has unremarkable 4/4/6 stats.

I finally reach level ten in government tech. But I can't reform the government since my Mamluke overlords are keeping me in a constant state of war.

The Mamlukes are in a bit of trouble. It might be the time to declare my independence. I do so and lose three stability, but the mamlukes are too distracted to notice. In fact we still remain allies.

After i regained stability and lose the "Resist western influences" modifier. I go ahead and modernize my military. I can now build charge cavalry!

I wait untill i have reached 0 stability... And then!

I go to war with Adal with a reconquest cb, I am hoping to get some gold and the province of Tajura off them. Their army is away fighting the Jalayirids, I lay siege to the entire country and force a peace.

Sadly they have no gold. But i do get tajura.

I have reached full stability again, and if I were at peace I could reform the government. yacob is getting old, and I dont want to risk delaying the reforms. The Jalayirids offer me this crappy deal. I take it.

Its finally done. I am now independant, somewhat westernized and with a proper government. The year is 1505

Yacob will now be the fisrt in a long line of great Ethiopian kings!

Let the nations of the middle east tremble at the might of the Ethiopian Empire!

Well done! It's likely that you'll have time for the extra slider moves before you can get a western neighbor anyway.

The peace deal was indeed ugly, but I suppose it's worth it to make absolutely sure that you got the government reformed.

Nice... i tried to play ethiopia in IN and even did quite well, but i had slight high inflation due to i had to go with military over limits. But got bored as i was unable to reform the goverment due to incompetence of rulers and other issues. Also i attacked Mamluks when they were at war with their neighbours thinking they could loose but i was dissupointed while they managed to destroy all of their enemies so i decided to give them gold to peace out of war. Still it is hard to play as ethiopia as they are realy poor and have no possibility to trade... and i didn't managed to reform the goverment due it's need level 2 gov resarch and ofc mentioned earlier rulers ...

Great job. Honestly, I figured this AAR would be over in a couple more chapters, but now I think you can definitely make it all the way to the end. :)
