4. Chapter: Alea iacta est/The dice is cast
June 1914 - August 1914
The newspaper is perhaps right.
As the dead archduke and his wife were being taken to Triest by SMS Viribus Unitis, the kaiser and king was on a special train to Vienna. The prime minister Leopold tried to back off Conrad from his proposal of declaring war to Serbia, to which everything was leading. The country was in chaos, it was indeed a big shock for the multi-ethnic empire.June 1914 - August 1914

There were some immediate responses to our choice.
Other were also expected (more about this in the post).
On July 1st the Austro-Hungarian army launched an offensive over the whole Serbian front. The empire´s army committed for this was of a quarter of a million, while the defenders had around 100k on the front. Around 500k troops are stationed on the border with the Russian Empire. Though no war was declared by the eastern neighbors.
Few days after the beginning of hostilities

By July 13th the Serbian surrendered

Previously in the spring of 1914 when Von Moltke, Hötzendorf and Cadorna met they agreed in supporting each other. Conrad presented the issue of the Balkans and presented his idea of taking over some countries before they could ally with the Entente. To get Cadorna into game Von Moltke not only praised his commanding skills, but also the ambitions to restore the glory that Rome once had (promising southern France, the whole North Africa and even more). "I am sure something will happen in those Balkans" were Conrad´s words which predicted the future.

No they haven´t. I accepted the ultimatum choice for Serbia and it did not occur, only Russia mobilizing, I was very surprised, only got some embargoes
it is nice to be ahead in the game compared to my posting, with some fiction I can make sense like why Italy honored the triple alliance etc.

I am not sure, I was confused too xD maybe the fact that the first Balkan war didn t go as planned, the second never occurred + that the kingdom of Italy honored the triple alliance is somehow related

5. Chapter: No turning back
August 1914 - September 1914
In the end of August the kaiser and king called Conrad for a meeting, after he congratulated for the army success Hötzendorf replied: "Mein Kaiser, perhaps we shall not celebrate that quickly, our relations with Russia are deteriorating, also they are actively mobilizing on our and German part of the front. I feel also worried about Montenegro my king."August 1914 - September 1914
"Why is that?"
"If they ally with the Entente it can be...." a servant interrupts Conrad as he come into the room to tell that the German empire has declared war on France and that Russia declared war back on Germany.
"My majesty we shall honor the pact and declare war on Russia and France as the Germans backed us up with Serbia."
"Will Italy do it to?"
"I can assure you that."
"Well war it is than.....one more thing Conrad, I want regular reports. Understood?"
"Yes, I beg your pardon but I have to issue orders and make plans."
Situation in Europe on the 1st of September, Bulgaria also joined the C.P.

The Russians launched a couple of offensives, mostly were repelled immediately. Our own offensives were partially effective. The Russians surely know how to fight. No imperial land will be ceded to the enemy without a fight. The I. Armee is victorious in Montenegro.

Since Turkey is deploying more and more units on our border the I. Armee was ordered to redeploy on the border. Unfortunately the Bulgarians sent all of their army to aid the Germans.

My majesty, our soldiers are being victorious on the eastern front, in Poland our and the German army are encircling some Russian divisions. While in the south the Russian Army totally broke, the cavalry has seized quite a lot of ground. The situation with Turkey looks grim, our forces are outnumbered, some units were sent form the eastern front to help in case Turkey declares war. Reports from the other fronts are satisfying as well. In northern Africa the Italian army has driven both French and British forces back. They also managed to break through in southern France. While Germany is slowly gaining territory on the western front, it is steam rolling on the eastern. If it goes like this the war will end by Christmas.

In mid October submarine crews reported the presence of the royal navy in southern Adriatic sea. The royal and imperial navy was dispatched to deal with the impostors. Although our navy had less modern ships their tenacity and courage could not be outmatched!October 1914 - December 1914

Our navy although small proved it´s worthiness against the biggest navy in the world!
SMS Erherzog Karl, the ship which sank HMS Bellerophon, but it did not make it out either.
Report from the high command to his majesty on the 10th of November:
Mein kaiser and king, on the eastern front our and German forces are steadily. We approaching Kiev, if the weather will be favorable we may take it before winter settles in. On the western front both Germany and Italy are advancing into French territory. In northern Africa the Italian advances seem like they came to a halt, while our new allies, the Ottomans, should have deployed their units there instead of on our border.
