Chapter Ten: Giants Clash
Part XLVI: It Begins
12 July, '45 to 25 July, '45

Hitler was quite bored. It had been months since his favourite AAR was updated. But then, hope appeared. It seemed that TDM had decided to fix up everything and continue. He was so overjoyed he created a national holiday at that very moment.

And then was promptly notified by his staff that Bermuda was being attacked again.

ukroalA.png

Hitler knew the strategic location of this island would force the US to throw everything at him, and the US was beginning to show their hand. Without Bermuda in his control, he would have to remain in the fortress of Europe. He could not reach the US without it. And the US knew this too.

He ordered his finest fleet to intercept the US attack. It went rather well for the Germans - the ancient fleet of the United States couldn't scratch the modern German ships.

fIt9Yi8.png

With the exception of a level 1 BC. I don't know why I put that in the fleet. Whoops.

The battle ended quickly, saving Bermuda for Hitler once more. And Hitler was especially happy here - the proud USS Tennessee, the great battleship of the US navy, was sunk.

ygx5BhH.png

There were a few other ships destroyed in the battle of course:

wV5cFFJ.png

But none pleased Hitler, and none were such a sting to the people of the US than a battleship being sunk.

Some ships - particularly the ancient Schlesien, an old battlecruiser from before WWI, were very heavily damaged.

zOC4L3t.png

But this showed Hitler something important - the US were willing to sacrifice their fleet to stop the German attack. Next they'll be sending all of their carriers, and that may not end so well. He couldn't wait any longer - he had to press now, whilst the US prepared for another attack.

He ordered for the invasion of the US to begin.

Transport Fleets of landing craft and assault craft were ordered to move to Bermuda to begin the greatest naval invasion the world will ever see. 1.6 million men were about to be sent to the United States, and Hitler's control over the world was about to be complete.

Yes that wasn't very long nor picture heavy. But it's back and we're about to take the US :D
kOW3w2r.jpg

It lives, jay! That's good to see!

20 kph for that fleet is not bad at all! I was worried the Schlesien would drag the average speed down too much but that's not the case it seems. Time to bring out the big US doomstacks! :p

yeeeeah! it's back

Well, I'd assume that the ship is so lightly armoured and so lightly armed that its weight wouldn't drag its weak engines down :p

yeeeeah! it's back
Yep :D

Part XLVI: The Battle of Bermuda
12th of August '45 to 27th of October, 45

Hitler was annoyed on the 12th of August. Very annoyed. The United States had emptied their marine reserves. Their docks were empty.

The entirety of the US marine corps was sent to retake Bermuda and it looked like they were going to win.

QVDzooP.png

Over 5 marine divisions from the US participating in the battle.

The fleet stationed there of course quickly came to intercept, to a very startling discovery. Around 90 US ships, including most of their battleships, were sent to take Bermuda.

2WnPK5j.png

The sheer scale of the attack forced Hitler to order every single storm fleet to attack Bermuda in a desperate attempt to save the critical island.

So great was the attack that the pride of the German fleet, Schleswig Holstein herself, was sunk. This struck the German high command particularly, as they begun to fear that perhaps the United States' fleet was too strong for them.

sPsqQ0M.png

Luckily the German CAGs were fighting a winning battle in the air, quickly gaining air supremacy.

0Nihizp.png

The German fleet finally arrived and begun to wrestle control of the waters around the important island.

2pHAOOA.png

In Bermuda itself, the battle was appearing to be a victory for the United States. The sheer overwhelming numbers of marines gave the US the advantage they desperately needed. Whilst the AT weapons of the marines were too weak for the powerful armour of the super-heavy armour, even the mighty Maus tanks couldn't stand against the US marine corps for long.

kZ212Ug.png

German bombers were therefore sent to help the German fleet in the crucial naval battle. They were able to count the number of sunk ships and see accurately how much the US fleet still remained. Many transports and BBs had been already sunk but much of the fleet still remained.

GfLeWmf.png

The naval battle was finally ended and the siege lifted.

there was no popup saying 'naval battle over...' so I couldn't screenshot that unfortunately.

The United States' fleet was decimated, although much of the German fleet was too; but Germany's fleet still remained strong enough to cover transport ships to attack the United States with.

In contrast, the US very many ships. They no longer had a grand fleet.

OIYkJJM.png

Much of their fleet after the battle was concentrated in the Pacific, with transports and DDs making up the majority of the US navy now. Germany still had carriers and BBs.

The US no longer has any way to prolong the invasion of the eastern coast. The war decisively swung in favour of Germany.

that naval battle was insane.

An excellent execution of Admiral Tirpitz' descisive battle doctrine. Attack an enemy position he cannot abandon and they will show themselves. They really threw their entire navy and marine corps into Bermuda. Now we know why the Bermuda triangle has such reputation!
I only wish they threw that kind of fleet against me, instead of piecemeal :p

22 capitals and 22 screens, that's a perfect fleet, well done AI. If it weren't for the 45 transport they were escorting, haha.
You faced 2 gigantic US fleets there, nice going :)

Bermuda must be getting quite crowded. :p

I also hope that this AAR is not too dead.

It's not dead, I just take a long time to update :), thanks for the interest haha

Bermuda I think at one stage had like 40 divs, before I realised supply issues might occur and moved some of them back to spain :p

Part XVLII: Landings
12th of January '46 to 8th of February, '46

It could wait no longer. After the destruction of the US fleet, Hitler decided this was his opportunity to strike at the heart of his enemy. It was time to land in the United States of America and end this for once and for all.

6Zmcncx.png

The landings begun strongly, the small American force defending there quickly being overrun by the most elite soldiers Germany could produce. Of course, they would soon bring their mechanised and armoured armies, but for now, it looked like Hitler would be getting a foothold in a major port. The American strategy appeared to be to man their ports and cities with small numbers of men, favouring to keep their powerful armies in the centre of the country until they knew where the German army was attacking from. The coast was too long to spread their army out along it anyway. This meant there was little resistance in the area.

5J31kKo.jpg

Hitler also managed several landings to the south of the main landing.

N0aYoLa.jpg

A large landing in Boston saw the first real battle of the invasion - 30 thousand men were stationed in Boston, mainly the remainders of the marines who had attempted to attack Bermuda earlier. Although the initial hours of the battle favoured the US, as more soldiers flooded in from every direction, the defenders of Boston, barely reinforced since their last attack, were pushed out of the city, giving Hitler yet another major port to work with.

iEZ57u5.jpg

The German army had, within the space of less than 3 days, were already in the US in significant numbers. Cities like Boston with their large ports would be able to allow for even more soldiers to get through and secure a victory for Hitler.

cjAMwSt.png

The 5-division strong New York garrison had been entirely moved north to stop the German forces there. Unfortunately for them, Hitler landed in New York and with minimal resistance, took it within hours.

5Flw884.jpg

After some bloody battles and clever German tactics, the New York garrison was split up and scattered.

x3Fr83F.jpg

Without any real resistance north, and with yet another landing in Philadelphia, the stage was now set.

tCm6Wze.png

It was time for Hitler's grandest strategy to be revealed. A massive pocket was now to be created, ensnaring any US divisions who were foolish enough to try and take on the advancing German army directly.

Ah the invasion begins, and it looks like the Americans are outclassed. time to surround them in droves!

Noice.

It begins!
Wish I could witness US Supreme Command panic.
Thanks! The supreme command's probably preparing to nuke my armies :p

No idea how many divs but I know they have 2 million men (it's frightening, I have to say).

:)

If they only panic now, they must've been asleep for the last few years o_O
Haha. Well judging from their naval performance I'd not be surprised.

Weirdest of all, I haven't had a single US sub try to take down my supply lines. All the ASW fleets I built were useless :(
They're probably over in Japan I guess. (and yes, the destruction of the US fleet has led to a power shift in the Pacific, I'll show a bit of that next update). Remember the US is technically fighting a two front war :p

Part XVLIII: Further Landings

Whilst the US struggled to keep the Germans at bay, in a secret nuclear reactor deep in Germany, Germany was about to start producing nuclear bombs.

m9lMVBG.png

In the US itself, the US army had gathered their forces to the north and had begun a powerful counter attack on the Germans there. Elite mechanised forces of the US army relentlessly attacked an entire German corps, and even with 4 divisions of reinforcements, the Germans were forced to retreat.

VR7n588.jpg

Such an attack would leave a gaping hole in Germany's strategies, should that northern sector become seriously threatened. And now it was being threatened. So Hitler called an emergency meeting with his generals, and it was decided to open a front in Quebec to relieve their front in Boston. To the south, the US had also brought up significant forces to defend Washington and the region surrounding it. It seemed that no longer the plan for a large pocket would be possible with the large US armies standing in the way of any possible encirclement. But Hitler was not so willing to give up on the pocket. He ordered his generals to attack south of Washington and force the US armies to attack there, allowing his armies to create the large pocket. He requested an entirely armoured force should do this - the elite units of the German army.

pEud4z6.png

A massive landing force was assembled, and the Germans quickly took Quebec.

07PSjFP.png

The Germans were now somewhat able to advance in the South, as the US had now diverted some of their forces to fighting this new front.

c98m414.png

Soon, after some heavy fighting, the Germans managed to link their beachheads together. They also reached the top of the lake in the southern front, the first step in creating the massive pocket. German forces were also advancing from Quebec to cut off the US forces too, but because of the poor terrain, this would take a while. Note the pocket to the right in Canada.

Hrf6HZq.png

German divisions were also landed in Norfolk now, and had begun to push towards Washington. It seemed the US had committed their whole army to fighting in the already existent fronts, as there was almost no resistance to the capital of Washington.
It wasn't Hitler's intention to capture Washington like this, just to force the US to divert forces. But with such a tempting opportunity available, Hitler ordered the capture of Washington.

kEo27OS.png

ivL5YCy.png

The eastern pocket in Canada continued to shrink for the US. A desperate break-out attempt was being made, but Germany would soon bring in more forces to deal with that.

WS2yxC4.jpg

The German panzers continued to race from Norfolk, still unopposed by the US army.

X97Irvk.png

Finally, a German spy in Japan had discovered that an attack was being launched on Saipan, a major US base in the Pacific (since they took it). The previous large naval battle had left a power vacuum in the US navy of the Pacific, allowing Japan to retake their islands. The US maintained a powerful airforce in the pacific, as the German airforce was inflicting too heavy casualties in the US mainland for their planes to be of any use back at home.

The German army is well established on US soil by now, great going. Time to overrun the entire continent. Any clue as to how many troops the Americans have?

those are a lot of Mechs! luckily they are not THAT much

2 million, give or take 100k.

Time to rename New England to Neu Deutschland.
Haha :p

Well we both have mechs, so it's a balance I suppose (my mechs are in the armoured divs, I have very few mech divs without armour).

Part XLIX: The Battle of Berlin

A small town called Berlin in the United States was the site of yet another battle between the German and US armies. The US was not going to be as eager to give up this battle as it had in the past battles - it was determined to use this as propaganda: If the US would win this battle of Berlin and would then go on to win the Battle of Berlin in Germany.

L1uWvj1.jpg

The east-Canadian pocket was rapidly diminishing for the US, after a determined German push split up the forces in the region. Without supplies, without communications and without help, the US divisions would soon succumb to their low morale quickly. Estimates suggest around 60 thousand US soldiers were trapped in the pockets.

Ln736mB.png

To the south, panzers were still racing through US soil, not resisted by any US army yet. Some of that panzerarmee linked up with the front to the north, and quickly pushed through, slicing a giant line in the main front.

7w4Nylc.png

But Hitler had realised a problem - the US had been too concentrated in the north earlier to have surrounded the Canadian side of his planned massive pocket quickly. The forces that had landed in Quebec were still forcing their way slowly through the snowy mountains and it didn't look like they were going to get there soon. And many of his forces in the area were currently engaged. The US had reinforced greatly its initial strength in Berlin, including many of the mechanised divisions available to the US. They were definitely not willing to give it up.

uZU1maq.jpg

But a massive morale boost to the Germans happened - sixty thousand US soldiers had been taken as PoWs in eastern Canada.

qoBpdLh.png

The battle of Berlin continued to range, the US throwing even more forces. The battle was now involving over 100k men on either side. But the Germans, who were beginning to feel the sting of the concentrated power of the United States Army, brought up all available divisions from the front and launched an assault on a crucial area - the area connecting Berlin to the rest of the US. As this was now under attack, the US divisions were forced to retreat finally. The casualties were bloody, some estimates saying over five thousand died on either side.

2mKMYdX.jpg

In the west, the US finally had brought in forces to stop the panzer divisions. They were brought from everywhere - marines and tanks alike. This was a quickly formed army, with poorly trained men. Nonetheless, the Germans were forced to halt their massive advance and wait for reinforcements to come before the offensive can be renewed.

uIfXCMj.jpg

Hitler's plan for a huge pocket had finally ended with the Battle of Berlin though, as any possibility for a breakthrough in the lines to the north (where a breakthrough would be needed in order to create a pocket) was no longer possible. Many of the divisions were going to need days to regain their organisation and soldiers. So instead, Hitler hastily drew up plans for the pocket immediately, and set every division to work on this. It was simply a smaller pocket than previously. But without many divisions, the advance was slow, so most US divisions got out in time. But Hitler did manage to capture some men in his pocket regardless.

Fk55STD.jpg

Compared to the rest of the divisions in the area, that's fairly high organisation. The battle of Berlin was brutal.

In the Pacific, Japan was well and truly underway in its offensive.

Whilst Germany, having taken a lot of land from the British when they surrendered, controlled many islands, they had no navy or airforce, and Hitler was too preoccupied with Europe to worry about the Japanese for the moment. The United States' holdings on the Pacific continued to fall, as Japan expanded her empire.

tN6HcBS.jpg

The US had lost over a hundred thousand soldiers in encirclements. It was being pushed back everywhere, only winning battles when strongly concentrated. Germany had still not yet sent its entire offensive army to the US mainland yet, and its bombers had only just been given orders to rebase to US airfields. But the most devastating thing for the US was only now come.
