For context, I've been trying to reestablish the Theodosian Borders in the new start date as an adventurer.

My biggest obstacle has to be the endless amount of game-ruining crusades. I understand that the Fourth Crusade was a pivotal event in medieval history. In fact, I enjoy rebuilding the empire after its dissolution. What I don't like is that this isn't a one-time thing. Or if it was intended to be a multiple-try event, it's ridiculous that sieging down Croatia can give you enough war score to dissolve an entire empire. There is no other crusade that will fully dissolve an empire like this, and it makes the Byzantine gameplay loop torturous. Losing one war shouldn't undo an entire empire. As well, if the establishment of the Latin Empire is the war goal, perhaps taking Constantinople should be required.

On the other side, the Crusade is far too easy. Starting as an even semi-relevant HRE or French duke is an easy way to take over an entire empire.

The event is heavily skewed in the favor of the initiator, and there is little to no recourse outside of allowing a micro-Latin empire to continue existing in the Aegean so the AI cannot trigger this event.

Are you in the right forum ??
I have my doubts.
