I've been perusing some of the changes that are expected with 4.0 next month and, agree or disagree, I'm actually looking forward to seeing which ones make the final cut and how they change the game. I have not bothered with the open betas as Stellaris by definition IS nothing more than a never-ending open beta that each of us pays for (unlike other games' open betas.)

One feature of the existing game that I have not seen mentioned (doesn't mean it's not mentioned, just that I have not seen it) is The Galactic Market. My success rate at securing The Galactic Market is roughly 50% and, for me at least, I don't really see much difference either way. Yes, having possession does reduce tax but regardless of possession I usually have such a massive surplus of Energy that it makes no difference. Which brings me to the point of my post:

Isn't it time to get rid of The Galactic Market?

Why bother with spending Influence to put forward the proposal in The Senate and time voting on such a useless feature? With the coming Zones rework and how populations will change which will also change how Energy works will keeping The Galactic Market be more important, less important or make no difference at all?

I know this is a minor point, a trivial concern, but I wanted to mention it nonetheless for no other reason that I think it needs addressing.

Let's remove The Galactic Market. Or at least change what it is and does. Perhaps make it a sort of galactic wonder that whoever builds it gets it? Like how World Wonders work in the Sid Meier's Civilization Franchise. That way whoever wants it can spend time on it and the rest of us need not bother at all.

Thank you for your consideration.

I generally ignore the Galactic Market leader mechanic, I don't find the influence cost really worth the small market fee reduction effect. Particularly at the point in the game where the vote happens and I'm still using my influence for expansion, claims, or subject conversion. It'd maybe be a little more valuable if the galactic slave market had an initial position following the market leader's slavery policy?

The Galactic Market itself is fine though.

After the latest update I think we should completely eliminate The Galactic Market from the game. I don't think it will serve any useful purpose once 4.0 goes live. Give us something else to pursue.

i do agree that being the head of the market should be more influential (like having a bonus to econ diplo weight or reduce planet trade upkeep) but removing it is going too far imo.

also for the love of god use a smaller font size

The galactic market should be revamped, not removed.

As you mentioned, there are two big issues with the galactic market right now:

1. There’s still too much variance in who wins the market.

2. The market doesn’t confer meaningful benefits.

First one can be addressed by redoing the nomination and selection process so that there are more weights and certain weights are more powerful. A dedicated modder could do this if he really wanted to.

Second one has a ton of potential, such as turning the market into a proper megastructure. Maybe it could even have selectable upgrades or building slots so that the market can be customized by the owner to confer additional bonuses.

Additionally, I’d like to be able to see where the market is from the galaxy map. You’d think a galactic trade hub would have a unique icon or indicator, especially if you want to target it as an enemy.
