Hi,
I have a problem with the game. When i'm playing, the game always crashes. I noticed that the game crashes mostly when autosaving or saving, i tried to solve the problem by turning off autosave and saving only manually, but that is not the solution, because the game often crashes even when saving manually. Sometimes the game crashes even when it's not saving. It has been happening since i bought the game, which is about 5-6 months ago. I could let the crashing be if the game didn't load so long (For me it is about 7-8 minutes) so i'm spending more time on loading screen than actually playing the game. I tried solving this issue three times through paradox support, 6 months ago, 5 months ago and a week ago but not a single thing helped, so i was redirected here. I'm quite desperate, because CK3 is my favorite grand strategy game and i was thinking about buying the new dlc, but if i can't play the game it is worthless.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Reactions:
Is this in a campaign started after the new 1.9.x patch? Or carried over from previous patches? Or both?

What antivirus app do you use? Make sure ck3.exe is allowed through all its exceptions list - you may need to re-do this everything a new ck3.exe comes out!

It happened on all games i started on any version, even the new. I have windows defender, i added ck3.exe to the exceptions but it didn't help before. I will try to do it again if there's a new ck3.exe.

You added ck3.exe to the Apps Allowed Through list in Ransomware, is that right?

And, does this happen with both local and cloud saves?

DXDIAG is a program you run from the Windows search box on the task bar. After running it will open a window and start collecting info with a progress bar in the lower-left corner. When it completes click the 'save all information' button and save it to a file then attach that file here.

Please attach here your Documents/Paradox Interactive/CK3/pdx_settings.txt .
From your Documents/Paradox Interactive/CK3/logs/ folder, attach here system.log , error.log , exceptions.log

It is even better now, because when i try to choose a character and play, the game wont load and crashes :D. There is no exceptions.log.

No clues in those files, although you've missed two of the other files I asked for.

Please do a full **clean** re-install:

- move any valued save games elsewhere, and user empire designs.txt from /Documents/Paradox Interactive/Stellaris/ if you have made any custom empires or races.
- "uninstall" in Steam-Stellaris
- manually delete both the Steam/SteamApps/common/Stellaris AND Documents/Paradox Interactive/Stellaris folders - In particular you need to make sure there are no files or folders left under either the Steam Stellaris or Documents Stellaris locations, before installing again.
- re-install game in Steam, run a Steam Verify when done.
- add stellaris.exe to the exceptions list of your antivirus app; ESPECIALLY if you have Windows Defender, add it to the Ransomware "Apps Allowed Through" list.

THEN Right click on ck3.exe , properties, compatibility. Tick "disable fullScreen optimisations" untick every other box in that dialog, Apply and exit.
Then in the launcher Game Settings menu, select fullScreen display mode, Vsync off, cap refresh rate at 60.

Any better now?

What happens now if you run ck3.exe directly?

Can I get new copies of ALL those files please?

Turn off cloud game saves in Steam. When I turned it off, the game only saves to the local drive.
All problems with autosave or quicksave are over.

Best regards.

Please don't necro old threads like this. The game has changed a lot since then. Thanks.
