That can be a registration issue - where the mouse cursor is offset from where it appears to be on the screen. If you can get past that screen by moving the mouse around and clicking, you can change the game's resolution to match your Mac desktop, which ought to fix the problem.

Has it ever worke don this machine? Or it has always been like this?

Hi,

I am running into the exact same problem on the same Mac model (MacBook Air M2, macOS Sonoma 14.2.1). The game ran fine for months on this machine (I bought it last June). I am running the latest version of Cities Skylines (1.17.1-f4).

Since two weeks, when I start the game, mouse clicks are unresponsive on the game interface, either on the main menu or in my city (when I choose Resume game from Paradox Launcher). It does not appear to be an offset issue as interface or menu buttons highlight when I hover the cursor over them, but clicking does not produce any effect (not even the click sound heard ingame). In several occasions (I was not able to reproduce them), game interface worked by double-clicking on the interface elements (tools, roads...). The game is not frozen, sound and ingame music play normally.

I previously ran into this mouse click issue once last summer, and was able to solve the issue by disabling V-Sync in the Options panel of the game.

No luck this time: I tried every tip related to this issue I could find: activating an item in Steam workshop, remove all mods, disable Steam overlay...

I removed the game, including all saves, mods, preference files I could find on my computer, rebooted, reinstalled it (without mods), same thing. I am stuck either on the License Terms agreement confirmation box when I start the game from 'Play' button on the launcher, or cannot do anything in my city except moving the camera while moving the mouse towards the screen corners when I start the game from 'Resume' button.

Obviously, same behaviour while using an external mouse or the trackpad. Both work perfectly in other games or applications.

My game is now unplayable. :(

Any help would be much appreciated! Thank you.

This can only have been a result of a MacOS update, specifically the Rosetta emulation that this game must use to run on that unsupported hardware. Presumably it only affects this game due to the older version of Unity it is written on.

The resolution setting appears to be in ~/Library/Application Support/Colossal Order/Cities_Skylines/gameSettings.cgs . I was going to suggest editing it manually but it seems rather cryptic in there; did you try deleting or renaming that file?

Hello AndrewT,

You were right spot on. I moved the gameSettings.cgs file out of the directory and restarted the game. Everything now works perfectly!
Somehow I missed that folder while clearing all CS-related files before reinstalling it (I looked for Paradox and Cities keywords but forgot about Colossal Order...).

Definitely related to the latest macOS update as the issue started by the time I updated my Mac's system.

Thank you so much.

Hello Andrew,
Thanks for your help! Deleting the file as suggested here seemed to work and the game would run smoothly; the only downside is that I would have to delete the file every time before I start the game or else the same issue would occur.

I have another report of this elsewhere; they say this problem only happens after the "Worthy Village" milestone is reached. Can folks here please say whether they've got past that point okay or not? Thanks!

I didn’t see such behaviour when I reached that milestone in my current city.

When I got the first mouse click issue, it was last summer, and was still able to interact with the interface, although painfully (multiple clicks required to use some interface elements). I solved the problem by disabling V-Sync from ingame graphical settings. I can’t recall if it was related to reaching the Worthy Village milestone in that city. But given its limited size (3,000), it is possible.

Something I observed is that the second I try to change the settings for v-sync the game will automatically brick all controls- everything is fine if you don't touch v-sync, which is kinda annoying as I would have to redo the steps needed to unbrick the game.

Not sure if it is only applicable for my case- any dudes could confirm if V-sync settings is causing issues here?

I noticed the same thing only a few hours ago. My game started again to not respond to mouse clicks today. I had to double-click on interface controls for them to work. Disabling V-Sync made the interface completely unresponsive to mouse clicks. I did the same thing as previously: quit the game, removed the gameSettings.cgs file from its directory and restarted the game. Everything is back to normal again.

Same here, I updated my MacOS, and then I couldn't get past the "What's new" window. I deleted ~/Library/Application Support/Colossal Order/Cities_Skylines/gameSettings.cgs, and now I can get in with mods and everything. Let's see how this works out further down the road, but thanks for the info.

Did you read the post immediately before yours?

I have the exact problem described... But I couldn't follow your instructions due to the inability to even find anything in my application support folder. Is there a way to solve this? Thank you!
In Finder click on Go then Go To Folder. Paste this in
~/Library/Application Support/

Then follow that file path down to the file that you need to delete.

I couldn't seem to find the Colossal Order folder, even after going to the application support folder and looking for it

You will have gone to the wrong folder, most likely.

To see it go to the Finder, hit command-shift-G (ie Go To) and paste in ~/Library/Application Support/Colossal Order/Cities_Skylines/ INCLUDING that leading tilde ~ .
