Is there any glimt of a new version of the Great War on the horizon???

Also, seeing as nobody takes any attention of my posts in other threads about this: Include a dutch annexation event in case of German Victory (the full implementation of the Schlieffen Plan)

I don't think there's that much finished work ready to make it into a new patch. What problems are you hoping will be sorted in 1.03b?

As for the annexation of the Netherlands... How much of an annexation are you proposing? The dutch homeland, all the dutch land including colonies, homeland + some colonies...

Well I took notice and put it on my extensive 'to do' list. Patch is largely correct in what those terms will be - pre-1916 would probably result in a puppet Holland, and afterwards would just see it disappear...

Broadly speaking, here's what I want to get done for 1.03b:

- Extensive debugging

- A complete tech tree (gaps filled, restructured, bonuses scrutinised etc)

- Some basic AIs for major powers that immitate war plans (maizenkor did some of these but they didn't work), as well as an AI that deals with their activity during the rest of the war - that would be in an undetailed but wide-ranging sense. If we can do something to deviate behaviour, such as the US mass constructing infantry post war entry or German u-boat building, then that would be very good.

When this will be done, it is hard to say.

And a new Models.csv I hope, if I can assemble it in time :)

Of course :)

Could you ensure that the infantry units have the proper names? 'Infanterie', 'Stosstruppen', 'Fanteria', etc etc?

For infantry units and the model.csv, I could do that, as I've done the unitnames.csv and most land OOBs. :) I'll be home all next week (January 27th - February 2nd) and should be able to do it before 1.03b.

OK :) Please post them in the Models.csv thread, so I can incorporate them :)

Shouldnt most of this stuff been put into 1.02? Are you messing up? I like the mod but I honestly think it coulda been done better. It seems someone has messed up somewhere. Good luck in the future.

No we aren't messing up - when developing a mod, there is always the need to balance the necessity of changing things to make improvements and take out errors that inevitably manifest with the equal necessity of releasing versions of the mod so that it can be tested by the public at large. So, yes, it could have been done better, but at the same time versions have to be released, otherwise we'd spend all the time working on it, while no one would ever get to use it. :)

I understand versions have to be released. I just don't understand how the liberation problems (CTD) were let in the release. Just makes me think no one tested it. Sorry for sounding like a jerk. :D

But it was tested. The problem is, the version released as 1.02b had slight changes from the test version (for example, a tech was removed from a file. Unfortunately, that change causes the crashes). But that testing was not extensive, I think most of it was directed at checking whether the mod actually loaded (main problem in the two previous versions). Don't worry, eventually the test/release system will be fine-tuned so that the released version has any glaring flaws removed, so we can all play it and complain about divisions being called 1st Gebirgsjager Division instead of 1. Gebirgsjäger Division. :)

Patch is of course correct, when he says that the mod needs a new tech tree, units, events and a much enhanced AI, but I think Stephen has a point - I have no problem with releasing a relatively debugged and slightly updated version of what we have now, as quickly as possible, labelled as '1.03b'. :)

Just keep working on those patches at your own chosen rate. Just know that we will be there waiting for them.... :)

Thanks :)

Although some of the new models will be in this interim version, the tech tree shan't be updated, so they won't be available for use. We'll include event bug fixes and new events such as the tragic death of Moltke the cellist.
