Some notes from the Author - Hello, this is my first AAR ever, chooseing my home nation and giving it a go.I'm going to see were it takes me :) I must say SORRY for all my typo's and such.

New York Times, Jan 1st 1936

1936 - Employment up, the economy moving, and the first cross country highway and rail system by 1939!

fdr.jpg
President Roosevelt made big promisses this new years eve 1935, in a White House gala of epic proportions. Several notable figures in political and defense circles attended as well as the Vice President, and Chiefs of staff. The mood was festive, an deviceingly small but skilled classical trio of string musicans provideing backdrop to the scene.
Dinner and dancing were the order of the evening, even formor chief of staff of the United States Army Douglas MacAruthor taking to the floor with his soon to be wife Jean Marie Faircloth. Afterwards the president had announced that " Excutive Order: 4435-35 has passed and is now official... the Coast to Coast program begins hireing tomarrow. True to this administrations promise durning the election years... /There Will/ be a fully modernized rail and highway system in all 48 states!!! Each state will have an airport!!! This program will also extend to San Juan and Peuerto Rico, Colton and the canal area, and the pacific islands. By 1939 we will be connected like never before. This program at it's bare minimum will employ 10,000 men per million in every state in our union. "

:: The reaction was a thunderous roar... this is what the nation needed, a major goal... a chance for the shattered economy to heal. Let's hope the rest of the world affords us that as well... surely one world war was enough? ::

MARCH 5th The Oval Office, Cabinet meeting for spring of 36. All members in attandance.

FDR: " Good Morning Gentlemen... let's go with the usual order. "

:: Cordell Hull was first to stand and speak, as secretary of state ::
( Here is a quick bio for all intrested Hull's Bio )

Well Mr.President, with recent german military moves into the Rineland the situation in europe is somewhat tense... apprently the French and British are letting it happen without anything more than objection. Both of there embassadors loged formal complaints with the leauge of nations. Beyond that... this situation is quiet... a bit too quiet but if they are having half the economic woes we are... I don't see aggression in this year or next, not with the state of there respective economies.

FDR- " Let's hope they keep it that way... Now I keep hearing about this apprent Coup in Japan... Counzans, you have anything yet? "

:: The minister of intelligance stands, and speaks. ::

" The reports I've recived are sketchy at best sir... apprently there is a coup of some sort going on, and rumors of a new prime minister being elected are rampant through the embassy staff. I would say the upper echelons of the army and navy brass behind it, judgeing by there lack of response to orders to quell upriseings mentioned in one memo. "

:: FRD nods, processing the information :: Look into it asap. Henry what do you have for me?

:: Henery Morgenthau began on a subject touched on a few years before :: The mass esembly plants will soon be poping up around the country, particulary in the northeast, chicago and detroit region, also the west coast. We can expect military industrial contractors to begin taking Ford's lessons in mass production. Also the big new this is synthetics apprently... composite materials and such, one area of study called Polymersion in particular sounds appealing. First methods for synthetic Oil and Coal are being looked into... then a substiute for all these rare materials we will need for the growing econmy. With the coast to coast program in effect, and the economy turning around, we are looking to make progressive gains in the fields of industrial science, to support growth in all sectors.

:: FDR takes several notes quickly, noding :: sounds good, I'll keep tabs on the progress. :: Turning towards Malin Craig, William Standly and Oscar Westover. :: How are we looking on our security needs... this german movement has me asking... I'm almost regreting the cutbacks in the navy.

:: Malin Craig takes the floor. :: Besides the disbanding of the First Cavalry Division at Fort Bliss, there have been no changes, our budget is several million over... we've used the money to research better weapontry and conduct field exercises to keep our three remaining divisions in fighting contidion. :: He then looks to Standly, who begins with the department of the Navy briefing. ::

We have sent all of our outdated destroyers on convoy duty sir, this cuts back significantly on costs... we are also researching new classes of ship... the pocket battleship has promise, once we can build facilities for there construction. Also a new class of battleship in the works... will see production next year. :: Hands out some information packets :: I give you the North Carolina class Battleship. All construction on time sir, the expected launch dates still valid. With the Jap's walking out on the london naval conferance I have ordered the first marine division to full wartime capacity, and have recalled the second and third Marines as well. We have a plan of action to have the 4th - 6th marines ready to ship by new years 1938 at the lattest.

:: After an uneventful airforce briefing, the meeting was finished, It would be another year and diffrent political landscape till the next. America was safe... for now. ::

1936, A year in review

One of the first things to hit newstands in 37, from New York City to Los Angeles is the" American year in review, 1936 "

Jan 2nd- Coast to Coast program hires 1,000,000 men and women in it's first day of public service, mostly to fill orders for the millions apon millions of tons of suplies, required for upcoming construction projects in the mid and far western states. By june 3,000,000 americans were employed full time with decent wages and benifits.

Feb 30th - Apprently Japan's new goverment sent the world a message by walking out of the London Naval Conferance of 1936.

March 2nd- The Boulder Dam was completed on time and the public got it's first view on this day... american inginuity at it's finest..

April 18th- Poland joined the Allies of UK+France. At a press conferance in Lyons, the allies sent a clear message they would only take so much aggression from the fastmoving and re-arming nazi's.

May 18th- Leauge of american nations meets in Miami to discuss Boliva and Argentena, the US influenced both.

July 2nd- FDR installs Leroy Grumman as chief of Air, the new air chief known as one of the brightest ib the fiek of aviation, has big plans for the navy " The Carrier is here, the next generation of naval aviation is apon us... in fifteen years the carrier will be the centerpeice of naval operations " That got some laughs from navy brass... but he would laugh in the end, as the carrier doctrine was proven to work in mock battles between the USS ranger task force and some battleship divisions in the atlantic/Golf Of Mexico region.

July 3rd- A whirlwind of minor nation talks to place in mexico, over 15 minor nations attending. Topics included industrial needs, infrastructor, and the situations in europe and the far east.

July 18th - The Spanish Civil War brakes out in spain. Germany, Italy and the Soviets sending troops and advisors... god help the people of Spain. FDR sent humanitarian aid, and several navy doctors and surgons with a bodyguard of a regiment of Marines from the first division, to set up medical facilities for civilians cought in thr fighting.

July 21st- As Ships containing weapons sent from the Polish goverment reach the ports in Spain, General Goged is captured and killed in Barcalona, a divided nation mourns there hero's death. He is buried with full military honors, a cease fire in the fighting for three days marks his burial... the only cease fire in the civil war.

Sept 7th - Over 10,000 Ford trucks and several ships filled with oil were sent to France in exchange for consessions from the french goverment. The french were estatic as the trucks rolled off the huge cargo ships of the red, white and blue. The French Army placeing the largest order of all, for 4,000 heavy trucks, to be modified for there army service. The United States comming through for it's longest ally. Also, somewere in a small and smoky pub in london two army officers of mid rank talked and drank... one passed another the documents he was ordered to hand over... the british now had everything they needed to create paratroopers.

Oct 7th - The Yankees Win! New Yorkers celebrate.

Nov 4th- The biggest landslide in US history... poor Wendil Wilkie never had a chance. FDR WINS! COAST TO COAST CONTINUES! NOW 8 MILLION AMERICNAS EMPLOYED, PLANS FOR ANOTHER FOUR MILLION.

Dec 15th - Two Noble prizes were given to americans. Eugene Gladstone O'Niel for literature, Carl David Anderson for discovery of the positron.

1936... A good year in all, despite the danger on the horizons.

1937 - 1939 Tought times, Tough people

Strike... the word sounded ulgy, but for most of the mid 30's it was common in the USA... so common they numbered in the hundreds of thousands... many of them orginized by communists. The workers were americans tired of getting ripped off by rober barons... the new nobility in the states it seams.
There was violence coast to coast... you could almost call it the unknown civil war it was so bad. After the depression no one cared... there were reports of food raids, theft and robery rampant everywere. You see the werehouses were full of goods... the farmers fields full of food... no one had money to buy any of it... many of these same farmers drove by fallow fields with there starving wives and skinny kids... past fields they could grow food on to feed there familes. In flordia or california you'd see endless fields of oranges... guarded by men with rifles, the fruit to be dumped if the prices got to high next season.

It came to open revolt... millions of workers striked by violent and not so violent means, clashing with police and army units at one time... monthly. Miners in the denver area, farmers in the breadbasket, textile workers in the northeast, women workers in general... and the negros. Blacks had it twice as tough in the depresson... last to be hired, first to be fired as they said. It was getting ulgy, and soon... mabey more than the US could handle. ( Mind you this is historic information, with a bit of liberity taken )

FDR... everyones patron saint. His " new deal " was great if you happened to be in big business... only 5% of the population was, and they controled over 70% of the nations stocks and bonds ( fact, may be a bit of in numbers, as in under ). Workers rights were not takeing into consideration until the late 30's... but they were with a gusto. He had new las set up limiting strikers by making them illegal in many ways, and the states of the union fallowed suit... things were clam long enough for the poor mans new deal... Coast to Coast ( fictional ) to be undertaken, by the people, for the people... they would employ themselves in public works projects all across the union. It would... in FDR's own private words it would " Hammer the everliving shit out of this depression the hard way... blood, sweat and tears. "

Union representives from around the nation marchecd on washington to protest for something... it's now forgotten in the myrad of problems plaugeing the day. They expected a showdown with MacAruthor's troops again... with Essisenhower as his aide, Bradley and Patton serveing as officers in the event. But a turning point in american history happened... a new era of workers rights talks, FDR displayed true genious that day...

... He invited them in for coffee, and a senior aide of his took there complaints, as a group, from there leaders.

Military production was kept level, the second new deal passing fully... even to national protest. Most of the defense contracts were not public, nor open to bidding. 20 or so companys shared about 400$ million worth of a 1$ Billion dollar industry that was beginning to take off. As time progressed enough people were cought into the growing defense industry that strikes calmed down for several years, the Coast to Coast program a big part of this.

The US Navy was the top navy in the seas... except it had little reason to go there. While spread out in Atlantic and Pacific fleets, It could take on the navies of several nations and come out on top. All the major ships and weapons systems saw upgrade during this time, most of the BB fleets upgraded and refitted as much as possable. Carriers were now all the rage apprently, but looked limited with the primitave aircraft in production at the time. Large ammounts of battleships, pocket battleships and crusiers were built instead. They could lock down an ocean of there chooseing, Atlantic and Pacific, with there numbers.

The Army laged behind at 16th in the world... MacAruthor " almost shit his pants when he saw that memo " as one junior aide put it... behind Canada, France and Greece was just silly, and quite sad considering the size of the US. 2 Airborne divisions were added, along with transport, the 6 marine divisions activated, and nine army divisions called up. Supporting armor Battalions were the order of the day... no armor divisions yet. The troops were tought how to fight better than there ww1 brothers, given better weapons, and better medical facilites. Ironicly white and negro blood was seperated for no reason than natural humam stupidity... even though it was a blackman that discoverd some of the most important aspects in bloodbanking, plasma and other such medical techniques.

The Airforce was hampered by budget cuts, and trial and error... it would take till the beginning of the war to correct this. The US began setting it's sights on it's enemy... and finding it hard to distinct between the godless commies or... well godless facistists. But one airforce general had an idea... one that may just cost there enemies dearly... " Burn them to hell " Maj. General LeMay, USAAF said " Burn and bomb them all to hell if need be... destroy there capacity to make war, to make much of anything really. Place the back in the stone age. Terror Bombing, force them to the peace table. "

As a small note... child labor, minimum wage and a host of other laws and federal programs were introduced... goverment entered peoples lives a bit more. The greatest generation... if they could get there as an undivided nation first, without killing each other in the process... Tough times, Tough People.

Then thoes damn Germans have to go and ruin everything...

WAR!

Parris in the spring, 1939

:: The young men of training platoon 1139 waited quietly in the small barracks they were assinged. Each man... most of them not a day over 23, was given a full medical examination and then assinged his platoon after the processing work was completed. 88 young men would become Marines in three months, elite soldiers of the sea. But first they had to get past someone... soneone who would make sure they were hard, " ready to eat nails and shit screws " so to say. ::

Good Morning Recruits... DROP!!!! DROP NOW YOU SORRY SACKS OF SHIT! ASSUME THE PUSH UP POSITION! DO IT DO IT NOW!

:: Like a Hawk, Gunnery Sargent Thomas Moorley was on them, his command voice worse than anything these young men had ever head before... they all droped ::

Fifteen, first for the comandant, second for FDR... BEGIN!

:: And so did three months of hell start... thses young men would fill out the current Marine divisions, and more than likely see combat within a year or two of graduation from the Island. It was Moorleys job to make sure they were up to the task. Moorley was a decorated veteran of the south american bananna wars, and the PI insurcetions... rumor has it in hand to hand fighting he riped a mans balls off... with his bare hands. ::

I will be your father and mother, I will be your priest and your pastor... even if your a jew. I don't care if your poor, rich, smart or dumb... your all grabasstic peices of amphibious shit in my eyes... equally worthless, all of you fat slobs. I will strip the traits I don't like... Instill the ones I do... when you leave me you will all be killers, warriors... men.

Now the first lesson... hygene. Let me catch one of you punks stinkin up my barracks or head. I will teach you all how to bathe, eat and sleep the Marine Corps way... first and most important are... your feet, everyone GQ up front now, with your boots and socks.

:: Most of these youngmen would look back on the lessons imparted with fondness... even at the pain, for in combat it kept them alive. Most could hear Moorleys voice loud and clear in there minds when in a firefight, the first orders sinking in the deepest... one funny thing they all remembered... there feet never stunk, and jungle rot was never a problem. ::

Thanks alot LB, seams your the only one though :(

So I'll finally ask... is anyone else reading this and enjoying it? It's my first so it may not be that great, but one can only learn from experance.

1939 - 1941 A world of war, a country of hesitant peace.

Overview: If the mid 30's were " things getting worse before better " than the late 30's - early 40's were well worth the wait. FDR had by 1940 passed more laws for workers rights and civil liberities than any other president in american history. Finally the six major highways connecting the east to midwest, and midwest to the westcoast region. More and more americans had jobs... decent jobs with good benifits that extended to there families. They worked there asses off form the most part, glad they had jobs at all... let alone of such national attention and importance. In a way the american people led the way... FRD just lit the fuse under them. Riots... while still common in the private and blue collar sectors, were often controled by union management... the days of miners arming themselves long over.

Domesticly Americans were busy durning these years... but watching the word around them. They realized that sooner or later, even moreso after the rape of Nanking, that they were going to be drawn in sooner or later. The armerments bill pass fully, the arsenal of democracy was begining to take form. US pilots trained with the Brits and French, some seeing limited combat in patroling missions over the green fields of France, or the eastern coast of england. The Army and Navy expanded durning these years in the form of better equipment, training and doctrines for both. New types of warfare, new ways of fighting, a new level of armed conflict was begining to take hold with the chiefs of staff... combined arms. The army and airforce would become one such force, the navy and marine corps another. A fully modernized and battle ready US navy was ready. The army would need a bit more time, having a way to catch up to the krauts and brits. American Infantry and land battle doctrine was more efficent than Japans... but Japan had the number by sixfold till late 42'

The US army had it's first six tank divisions come into service at fort bliss texas, commanded by General Patton. the 40mm Stuart had speed, and kick with there added arty bats. Two of the division had eng bats to add support and better river crossing capabilities. The first through third Infantry Divisions were stationed at ft.benning, to assist in training and expanding facilities. The remaining Divisions were split into two types of formation. Active Army for europe and africa, and the NG troops in support of the USMC in the pacific and Asia.
There was tension and conflict at the top of the Army over who was the real enemy. On one hand you had the Nazi's... then you had the Commies as well. Both appahaling for many reasons. Patton, MacArthuor ( till retirement in 37 ) both warned of russian ambitions. with the division of poland, and russian absorbtion of most of the baltic states, it was a bit obvious to them. On the otherhand there was Bradley, Marshall and several others includeing Chief of Staff and Sec of Defense Craig that the Nazi's would threaten great brition, there view won after the fall of france in early 1940

The Navy, for the most part had a breakthrough period, updateing all of it's ships to more efficent, deadly models and classes. NC class BB's and Pocket Battleship CA's were filling new naval slips in diego and guam. An all BB amphibious support group was in the works for the older model bb's on the west coast.By then end of 41 the US navy had a fleet of more than 30 BB's and 40 CA's as it's main weapon, with 5 cv's becomeing the center of fleet operations. Hornet/Wasp taskforce and the Fast Pacific Carrier Group were formed. The navy began funding a rocketry program as well... knowing the germans would soon have complete dominance if they did not. New Radios and tactical equipment was installed on all US warships, along with 20 - 80 mm AA guns and ASW gear, as per SON ( Sec Of Navy ) Grummans famous " general order 4/41 ". How he got it past the house, senate and FDR was and still is anyones guess.
As for the famous and ragged fighting leathernecks, they were at full wartime strength by late 40, with backup plans and reserves ready to drump up another 6 divisions incase Asia or american intrests in south america required. Marine avation was also made official, with avaiton shcools opening there gates in san diego and camp le june. This gave the corps the first truely " Combined arms force " in american military history. Marine infantry, Marine tanks, Marine aircraft. They could fight as there own independant force, with the navy supporting operations.

The army airforce was haggard, but by late 39 fully up to date with wildcats taking the main fighter role as interceptors. New advances, aggressive researching, shareing of technology with the UK and new models soon made them obsolete... by late 42 the last propeller driven model used by us forces was put into production... Vought's F4U Corsair. The last two squadrons... VMF-214 AND VMF-215, with more than 400 enemy kills between them, were deactivated on july 1st 1946. As a historical sidenote, many of them would go on to help in the R+D and test phases of the first Saber and Super Saber jet aircraft.
As for bombers, the flying fortress was here, along with the havoc. They would make due for now. Better Radar and systems for bomb/gun control were put into place, and all places fully upgraded with gun turrets and modifications to the airframes. Incendairy munitions... small sticks that looked like dynimite almost... droped by the thousands. LeMay smiled when he held one for the first time... knowing just what these could mean to stratigic air warfare. ( as a sidenote I did recive four air techs from the uk between 38 and 40, god bless the brits! I'd also like to give a shoutout to yemen, who helped progress the american sub program by 1 and 1/2 years, good lookin out Yemen! I sent both medical techs first, then infantry weapons and two doctrines, nationalist china recived the most aid by far, with a convoy established after the rape of nanking, algo with service rifles, mines, mortors and mg's added, along with basic doctrines and jungle equipment for the south, mountian in the north :) they kicked the jap's asses for most of the game, yay for the cia!!! )

In the midst of all this... there was a flase hope America would not get involved... not send her young men off to war... to fight and die in a far-away and lonely place. When the japanese bombers struck pearl harbor on december 7th 1941 ( they dow'd me on that day of all days, so I went with the historical event ) It was a shock to the public... but the military could see war on the horrision. One does not increase the size and spending by 200% unless one plans on useing it. A nation stood firm, the feavor of war overtaking all americans. Rich or poor, white, black, asian, american indian or hispanic. Catholics of all stripes, jews and muslims all demanded action.

After Pearl FDR decided aginst the Doolittle Raid... " a waste of good american pilots " he called it, so did Leroy Grumman... who had a bit of a political statement to make. He had information of a japanesse prision camp in the northern islands of japan... one were they had taken many koreans and chinesse enginners for slave labor purposes, to drill for oil... apprently the japs had found several small wells on this island in the early 30's and kept it in reserve. Grumman said, to the amazement of the joint chiefs, that he could destroy the camp, the wells and jap garrison force with 80 Marines... in a clandestine night time raid from alaska. After one week of debait... and the addition of 300 paratroppers from the 13th airbone division... it was given the greenlight. It was one of the most outrageous and ambitious raids of ww2.

Comming Soon - Operation:Reprisal The Midnight Raid on Military Target:44692-446usn.

German conquests of 39-41

The germans came over the polish border on september 1st 1939 with an aggressive formation, attiude and tactics almost like the mongols hundreds of years before. The tank was now the horse, and with almost 16 tank divisions invadeing from all border points, it was going to be quick. The agreement with the Russians was firmly in place... it began with paratroopers taking holding bridges and radio areas at 11 pm, 20 or so at a time. At 6 am 34 divisions attacked from 5 fronts.
The germans broke through all the lines in several hours, causeing full rout in some areas. After three weeks of heavy fighting around warsaw, and the sorounding providences, they were encircled. The polish Army of 14 divisions fought on for another 71 days due to mericale weather... then forced, they fell back into the city made there last stand. Warsaw fell on december 29th, over 300,000 kia in the polish army alone, unknown civilian KIA, the Germans lost anywere from 12-18 thousand men.

Quite a bit of the information was lost when the Soviets ransacked germany, france and poland... we will never know the full extent of the horrors of this war. Interviews with surviveing germans indicate the conflict was rather barbaric, with the SS units standing out in atrocity. Granted what the soviets did to france and germany until 1949 was far worse.

In the west there plans were boged down by stiff Dutch and Belgan resistance for two weeks, but by avoiding the magnot line... Paris fell in two months, seven hours to the minute. The german army was proveing itself to be the ultimate warmachine. With the french defeat, and fallowing surrender on the same traincar the germans singed ww1's surrender on... the great beast looked eastward. Hungry for more... They declared War on the soviets may 26th, 1941.

The war to end all wars had begun... and Americans could only shudder at the though of them getting involved.

Some explanations

The reason for the brief mentioning for german conquests is that the soviets took EVERYTHING in may game except most of spain and protugal, taken by the allies. I'm useing the idea that they burned and looted everything they could for the most part, destroying quite a bit and installing commie reghiems ( wich gave me a 15 in WE :) )

Does ww3 happen? wait and see.
