Hello and welcome to The Hammer and the Axe: A Pagan AAR! This will be an AAR that will not technically begin until Holy Fury releases, so think of this as the "announcement post". I have decided few specifics, but here is what I can say as of May 26, 2018:
Status: Inactive until Holy Fury releases.
Character: Undecided but definitely pagan, and probably Norse.
Start Date: 867
Character ideas:
-Any son of Ragnarr Lothbrok
-Rurik
-That one random Norse chief in Breizh
-Maybe a Bön character
-Custom character
-Please let me know about any interesting pagans in that start date!
Modlist: TBD
This will (if things go well) be a megacampaign going at least to EU4, and console commands will be used to spice things up at points. I will release additional information as it becomes available.

Whatever you decide, I think the chances are I will follow.

You could try to start as Hrolf de Normandie or Uhtred of Bebbanburg, although you would have to land them first, since they are courtiers.Or the Duke of Faroe Islands?

Aside from that, maybe Harald Fairhair, he is my favourite 867, although can be too easy. Basically I love any one of the mentioned, but there are already quite a few AAR's with Hastein of Nantes or any son or Ragnar Lodbrok or Rurik.. but again that should not stop you, every game is different and every player has his own style, but I'm just trying to come up with something interesting.

In 867 there is a pagan count of Ost-Friesland, he is the heir of his uncle was the catholic Norse duke of Holland. He might be an interesting character to start as.

Thank you for the suggestions. I will look into them. Also, I am considering the Magyars, a Rome custom run (as a Hellenic with appropriate mods of course) and that other Norse guy in Russia.

You could do ck2+ which weakens pagans in my opinion, but lets you use Rex Teutonicorum which gives you an 888 bookmark, which means no Karling blobs to fight. It'll mess up your vassal limit though. I'd also use more navigable rivers for Rex Teutonicorum, which makes raiding way more fun. Just my two cents, but this AAR looks really good and I'll be sure to follow its progress.

I am now thinking of a Romuva chiefdom or something to that effect. If this goes well (eg it is well received and fun for me) it may result in a mega campaign.
