This AAR will focus on an alternate version of the German Confederation that led to, first, an early rise of Pan-Germanicism in the early 1800s to the usurping of the title of the Kingdom of Prussia by the fictional House of Woerfel. First, I will go over some specifics about the game that will be played before making a prologue focusing on the pre-1836 history of this alternate timeline.

Important Notes

  • The game is modified in three ways. First, rebellions have been made impossible by making the militancy that requires a rebellion to occur 11 which is impossible to achieve. This was done because I just find rebellions too annoying to deal with, especially when Jacobin rebels spawn for no reason or rebellions occur in the multi-millions. The second part is that I will be using the mod 'Historical Flavour Mod', or HFM for short, and the 1.27 version. Several decisions have been added that can add the Dutch, the Flemish, the Swiss-Germans, the Danish, the Swedish, the Norwegians, the Icelandic, the Ashkenazi, and the English as accepted cultures due to the Pan-Germanic aspect of the government.
  • Console commands will be utilized in the game for several reasons. The first, and most common, will be in order to model the territorial acquisitions I want. For example, maybe I would want to acquire only the German parts of Wallonie and not the entirety of it, so after the war is won and I acquire the entire state I then return the provinces I don't want back to Belgium. In other cases I might use it to end a war prematurely and then use it to model the consequences of doing so as I see fit or to get rid of infamy by spamming 'event 18540'. The final instance will be in order to instantly research technology that should also be had or, by the date, should also be widespread, instead of lacking the technology for no other reason than gameplay.
  • I am currently in college so there may be days between the posts that I can put out but I will try to make at least one post a day.

The Revolution of 1823
Deep within Berlin, the beating heart of the Prussian Kingdom, is a voice that echoes throughout its neighborhoods preaching dogma and nationalism. It fills the heart of a common man with an adrenaline and swoons the women onto the ideal that the voice represents. It is one that chills the hearts of the aristocracy as it points daggers at their backs and one that threatens the financial stranglehold that the most greedy of capitalist have over their personal peasantry. But the voice goes beyond that of Berlin, traveling across all of the Germanic states; Brunswick, Austria, Schleswig and Holstein, Bavaria, and many more. It preaches a type of unity that hadn't been seen before among the Germanic peoples and one that would replace what the voice claims to be a decrepit and outdated confederation. It looks towards the Americas for what true freedom is and echoes those ideals just as true. Yet, a humanity leaks from this voice, a certain type of greed that has led to the creation of empires and tyrants. It is one not noticed until people realize the voice is a man and that a man is an individual. However, his words proved to be so charming and inviting that it captivated the followers of the voice in a trance.

It didn't take long for the aristocrats to notice the flare in the eyes of their people. A lust, not their own, but of another man that had implanted himself in their minds. It is a flare that frightened them for it could develop into a fire, a fire that could threaten to burn the very stilts that the establishment rests upon and to cause it to come crashing down. Some advocated the use of force to deal with this voice and his brainwashed minions, some others said diplomacy would be the best option, and a few said that nothing should be done. However, their infighting only fueled the voice and allowed his power to grow as he pointed out a corrupt administration that cared not for its people but rather for itself. Soon the minions descended upon the streets, the establishment, and the police, but the King ignored them. The King, as the voice claims, is a fool that favours being compliant and lazy over advocating for the German people. His ignorance of the minions which he believed would remain just that, minions, proved to be a fatal flaw that echoed his choices during the time of Napoleon.

As the new dawn grew near the minions grew restless and soon they became fanatics of the voice. Taking to the streets the fanatics posed to be of a larger number and a stronger force than the minions who had appeared before the King. While the violent words were exchanged back and forth the King brought forth his boomstick and poked the fanatics and with the wound the fanatics grew to be a bear with the voice as the head. Just as the aristocrats feared they broke the stilts and the establishment came down: the aristocrats suffocating the capitalist, the king suffocating the aristocrats, and the weight of bureaucracy threatening to bring down the very land they were on. The bear then became the stilts and stood atop the King who is atop the aristocrats who are atop the capitalist. With the weight of the establishment, they were crushed and the bear stood as one with the establishment. Across the Germanic world the establishments look on in fear as the voice became the form of a man and put a crown atop his head. He sat upon the establishment, proving himself to be even above it, and in effect became the very establishment. He surrounded himself with the bear who put down books in place of itself to support the establishment. Surrounded by the bear, the bear then turned into a mixture of objects: a paper with a mouth that made sure not a moment of the King's life is silent, a floating ear that echoed the words of the new King to the people that were now writing books, music, and art, a mighty nutcracker that is puppeteered by the people, a watchful eye that not only monitored the people but also the King himself, and seats for the people to join him in and speak with the King.

While he continued his preaching of dogma and ideals that the German people should be in one nation the other establishments took notice and realized that their stilts were shaking. Some managed to stop the shaking, others managed to reach an accord with the minions who shook them, and some toppled and had their establishments carried to the new King. The man, once nameless, took the name of Jurdek and the House of Woerfel. With control of the Kingdom of Prussia he formed an uneasy truce with the watchful eyes to the south to hold the Confederation together but even his people know this truce won't last...

Changes Compared To Historical Reality

  • The following countries were overthrown in the Revolution and became integrated into Prussia as states: the Grand Duchy of Mecklenburg-Schwerin, the Grand Duchy of Mecklenburg-Strelitz, the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg, the Duchy of Brunswick, the Free City of Frankfurt.
  • The following countries were overthrown in the Revolution and became puppets of Prussia: the Duchy of Anhalt.
  • Austria, France, and the United Kingdom intervened in the Revolution. While the United Kingdom pulled out after the Revolution succeeded, granted they were paid a sum of $100,000, Austria and France took territory as compensation for allowing the new Pan-Germanic monarchy to continue. In the case of France, they took ownership over the province of Saarbrucken, forced the Rhine to be demilitarized, and force Prussia to pay a sum of $40,000 to them annually. In the case of Austria, they took control over the southern sections of Prussian Schlesien and had the rest of Sachsen be returned to Saxony.
  • While kicked off the Prussian throne, the House of Hohenzollern continues to survive in Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen which has split off from the Kingdom.
  • In the chaos of the Revolution, Neuchatel was fully reintegrated back into Switzerland and the Hohenzollern claim to it considered void.
  • Due to the Revolution, Prussia and Anhalt start off with universal voting, non-secret ballots, two per state, first past the post, and one year draft. In order to appease the Polish populations that threatened to start a Revolution, they were also given the same rights as Germans which gives Prussia all allowed political rights at the start.
  • The German Confederation still exists but is very unstable due to the ascension of Jurdek.

An interesting scenario. Any chance of a map at the start?

As a fellow Prussia-AAR writer I will follow this one with interest!

Sounds like a perfectly stable, nothing to see here, sort of situation :rolleyes:o_O:D

Interesting, will folllow. Prussia seems to be a very progressive state for 1823 politically. Let's hope it will be a nicer neighbour to other countries than OTL Prussia/Germany.

An interesting scenario. Subbed

subbed!
