Upon recently hearing that naval combat could possibly become a reality, it got me thinking about the Iron Fleet. Described by sources as:

"The Iron Fleet spearheads any major military action. Its job is to destroy or pin larger enemy ships, allowing smaller longships to land on the enemy shores."

The Iron Fleet is typically 100 ships strong, and 10,000 men strong. Acting as a standing army-navy of the current Lord Paramount/Iron King, and consisting of men from every island that swear allegiance to the fleet, and not a particular lord.
Myself, and the people I've spoken to about this, all agree that this would be a great addition to the mod. Perhaps they could work like a mercenary group that the Iron king/Lord Paramount could call upon in times of war? A lot like Dany and her Unsullied! I have no experience modding, so i'm not sure how the title of "Lord Captain of the Iron Fleet" would be reworked so that it would be possible for the lord paramount to set who heads the Iron fleet, but i've seen it done with the Lord Commander of the Gold cloaks, so i suppose its possible?

I was thinking perhaps:
100 Ships
4000 Heavy infantry
6000 Light infantry
Free hire cost
With a suitably large upkeep cost (As pulling them away from raiding to fight a war, means they need to get paid!)
??

That's actually a pretty cool idea, as a mercenary fleet.

Vassal of e_iron_islands.
Indeed, treat it like the Varangian Guard et al. in vanilla. Possibly give something similar to the Arbor and Dragonstone, or at least a decision to create a (weaker) national fleet for emperor tier characters. Think of e.g. White Harbor, or Cersei's ship construction in AFFC.

No way. I guess that individual Ironborn captains or even lords with small fleets could be mercenaries, but Iron Fleet is standing force. Do you imagine British Home Fleet (for example) going mercenary?

It's a game mechanic to simulate the fleet, I don't suggest having it be hireable by anyone other than the LP/King of the Iron Isles.
