I couldn't leave Dai Nam, that's too bad. Although none of us was recruited to fight on the battlefield our work is much harder. Sometimes in the evening we use to rest for a while outside our offices and we talk about the possible outcome of this war. We think that the annexation of Dai Nam is inevitable because the Vietnamese possessions are isolated from the rest of our area of influence and if one day Dai Nam falls under British control, it may for sure become an excuse to them to intervene.
Our area of influence published on a newspaper
The Kingdom of Dai Nam simply couldn't resist to our invasion. Less than one year later the beginning of the war most of the enemy forts have fallen. Here in the colonies the situation has now returned to normal. Even if the battles are not too far from here, they look like a very distant matter, really.
I heard that our armies have finally captured the King of Dai Nam. If this rumor is true the war is close to its end. If not it won't change much because Dai Nam is almost fully occupied by our troops.
Those pesky British... They are still trying to persuade the Xing Emperor to give them other trade exclusive agreements. Too bad for them that our government has invested a lot to consolidate our influence over the Xing court and the Chinese Emperor has kindly invited their emissaries to return home.
Finally I got a new permission to leave Dai Nam. However as soon as I arrived at the train station of Seoul I noticed a paperboy shouting about a war between Afghanistan and Xinjiang.
This conflict is very important for the Community. So the Bear plots to destabilize indirectly our ally and weaken our positions in that region. But I'm sure that our Emperor won't leave alone the Xinjiang people.
I was right. Yesterday the government has voted for the declaration of war to Afghanistan. And that's not all, because we heard that the Tsar declined to follow his subject in this desperate adventure.
The Xinjiang government has sent to our Emperor a message of gratitude.
The Russian hesitation has discredited the Tsar in the eyes of many asian countries, especially the Kingdom of Shanxi. Here after more than fifteen years of Russian influence our Foreign Minister has finally managed to downsize their predominance. This may be the beginning of a new era in our relations with Shanxi.
The King of Dai Nam has returned. After we exiled him to the island of Bali he became a very popular figure among the locals and even convinced the King to refuse any access to our ships in Balinese ports. In the last ten years the island of Bali has been a good stop to our traffics but unfortunately our government has to leave the question aside.
However I think that Bali has only to wait some time before receiving our answer...
During our preparations our allies have resisted the invaders. The Afghan soldiers were blocked just across the border and couldn't advance so far. In the meanwhile our navy approached the coast of Karachi.
As soon as our troops faced the Sindh soldiers they were routed. I think this war will be even shorter than the one with Dai Nam.
The Bali issue hadn't to wait too long before being seriously discussed. Today I read that our government formally opened the hostilities with the island to force the expulsion of the former Dai Nam King and the opening of the Balinese ports.
Despite the war the internal debates are nonetheless very agitated. One of the main problems recently discussed in our society is child labour, something that many, including me, see as a scandalous reality in modern times. The government is trying to contain this shame but I think it does move too slow to resolve the matter.
The resistance in Sindh is over, and the Afghans had to move some troops to their border because they are aware of our discussions with the Kahn of Kalat about a military access and the consequent threat from the south. In the meanwhile Xinjiang had repelled the invaders and the situation returned to the beginning of the conflict.
Today it was announced the surrender of the Afghan Emir and his renounce to the claims he had in Xinjiang. I heard that when the news about peace reached Xinjiang, the local people ran on the streets waving the flags of Xinjiang and the Korean Empire togheter. This war proved the effectiveness of the Community and strengthened our prestige in the region. We are proud of our Emperor wisdom and determination.
