The Fools!

The mountains outside Fort Sundgau, Alsace
September

For three long hours the two sat there in silence, both unsure of what to say next. Those hours could have turned into a full day if not for the sounds of conflict outside. As if on cue, a soldier walked into the tent.

"Dorothea, the Count has ordered that you be taken to a secondary tent if there was a bat... tle..." The soldier's speech slowed down as he saw Aldo tied up with his pants still around his ankles. The soldier shook his head.

"I'll just get the boy out of here. He will only be a nuisance." The soldier said, picking Aldo up. Dorothea grabbed out to Aldo's legs and yanked him towards her.

"No, he's mine, now!" She yelled, pulling Aldo close as if he were a toy. Aldo, however, was busy staring at the soldier. Something seemed familiar about him.

"Dorothea, he must leave."

"He's coming with me!" She whined.

"He most likely has parents. He looks like he's thirteen."

"I don't care!" The soldier's patience was being tested.

"Hand Aldo over to me, Dorothea!" The soldier roared. Once again, stunned silence filled the room. Dorothea smirked. Aldo sighed.

"Scott, you are terrible at keeping secrets." Aldo said.

"You never told me that was supposed to be a secret!"

"Why is his name a secret?" Dorothea inquired.

"Shut up, Dorothea! Now is not the time!" Scott yelled.

"Why don't you shut up, jerk!" Dorothea whined, crossing her arms. Scott was going to come up with a response, but he paused and only stared at her.

"... Jerk?" Aldo repeated. Scott looked over at the boy.

"You know what, I don't have the time." Scott said, grabbing Aldo and walking out of the tent. Dorothea followed, dragging her chest with him.

"Leave the chest there, Dorothea!" Scott commanded.

"I don't know about you peasants, but I'm taking my stuff with me..." Dorothea said. The three began hiking up the mountain, following a crude path. Scott looked over at the battle raging below them.

Enemy cavalry grew closer to their flank, one of these men being the Duke of Alsace itself, as if he already knew this was going to determine if his duchy would survive. He wanted a fair fight. A duel. A fight to the finish! He proclaimed on the way to the battlefield that he would find Otto's dead body and bring his head back on a stake. He was so sure of this that he sent this message to Otto's entire army!

Instead, he found an arrow lodged in his eye fired by a nameless archer from a unit made up of peasants. The dream-breaking shot routed most of the army, causing Alsace's poor army to be nearly wiped out. The victorious Aargaurians chased the dukeless army past the mountains and off towards Fort Sundgau.

To the three on the mountain's path, the battle seemed to take less than 2 minutes. All they saw was the cavalry rushing forward, and the rest of the army fleeing.

"That battle was pitiful. I would not be surprised if by the time we got to the fort, the entire duchy surrendered to us." Scott stated.

"I'm not carrying this back!" Dorothea exclaimed, dropping the chest on the ground.

"Just carry it. The faster we get there, the faster we go home." Scott said, walking back down the path. Dorothea scowled and slowly began pulling the chest down.

Indeed, as they reached the fort, they saw the Eagle of Aargau over the main tower.

Ah.

Now I see. And I'm unexpectedly pleased.

Very sorry about the lack of updates. The secondary computer that I had(which could play CK windowed) overheated or got a C Drive error, of course, the moment I was able to transfer my save to it.

Until that computer is fixed, I cannot update for 4 out of 7 days. I can start working now, but I do hope that is a satisfactory excuse for my inactivity on the AAR scene.

The Journal Returns

Fort Sundgau, Alsace
November, two weeks after the siege.

The group of unwitting time travelers hit a snag. In the celebrations after the taking of Fort Sundgau, they had forgotten about the journal. It was two weeks before they noticed.

"You would think that the protectors of the girl that the ruler of Aargau wishes to marry would get a larger place to stay." Scott said, placing his sword on its rack. The group was in a small, cramped house with barely enough room to hang their things up in. The county was still poor, and it showed. The "furniture" was little more than a few chairs, a table, and a few cots. The fort itself reeked of blood and horses.

"I'd rather be tied up with that girl." Aldo said, pinching his nose.

"Well, we could use the journal and see if that will get us out of here." Petrus suggested.

"Good idea. Aldo, where's the journal?" Scott asked, but was met with silence. He turned around, and Aldo was just looking down at his feet.

"You forgot it, didn't you." Scott groaned when he got no response.

"Dorothea stole it!"

"Sure she did." Scott said sarcastically.

"I'm telling the truth!" Aldo whined.

"Are you talking about the girl who wants to take over Swabia?" Petrus inquired.

"Yes." Aldo replied.

"You met her?"

"Yes, I was trying to get the journal to you, but she caught me and tied me up. She frisked me and took the journal, then Scott found me right after the battle started." Aldo explained.

"Oh, that was a fake." Petrus said.

"How was it a fake?"

"I just wrote down everything up to where we stopped in a second journal. If we had to give up the original, we would always have the fake." Petrus explained, nodding.

"So where is the original?" Scott asked.

"Oh, I have that." Petrus replied, taking the journal out from under his coat, which he seemed to be wearing at all times unless there was a battle.

"So I nearly got kidnapped for no reason at all? Couldn't you have warned me?" Aldo said, crossing his arms.

"The fake is important to me." Petrus replied. Scott shook his head.

"Let's just start reading. I'm getting tired of this place."

NOTE: This is a short chapter because I have to leave early. I am going to get as much written down in a notebook so I can continue writing while I am at the other house.

They're going to read about the history as it happens?

Now that's quite the way to compare notes!

"March 10th, 1067: With new technology, we drained the marshes around our capital and the surrounding area. Not only do I have money, but now my land is even MORE empty! Hurray!"
this line made me choke in my drink, hilarious :D

more of the same please

On hold indefinitely. My first computer recently decided that it is unable to run Crusader Kings, and that it also can't run anything from last generation windowed.

My second computer(the dead one), however, will be fixed at a time unknown to me as my mother(I'm not but fifteen) is not exactly reasonable, and has blamed me for the incident and refuses to buy the disc required to restore it as we do not have the original.

I can make an EU3 AAR, but, to be honest, I'm starting to get tired of attempting to make AARs, as whenever I do, SOMETHING gets in the way. After three attempts and three hardware failures, it gets extremely frustrating.

More's the pity. Teenage Charlemagnes are so rare on AARland.

Too bad about the save.
