The Kings of León

Part One: Introductions.

Alfonso.JPG

"You seem deep in though" King Alfonso of León said to his servant standing in the corner of his bedchamber "for a servent I mean." he added with a sneer on his lips.

"Well M'lord;" replied his trusted servant, "I was wondering if, at some point the future, most people would not know that the kingdom of León ever existed as a spanish state, and those who knew of us would be only those people who played games based upon the history of Europe on some kind of giant abbacus, and we would be commerated the name of an alternative music band."

"What ideas the youth of today have!" the king exclaimed "The kindom of León shall live forever and always be first amongst the hearts and minds of its residents!" adding to himself in a chuckle, "...a giant abbacus. What will my servents think of less."

"Maybe." said the sevant boy to himself, "but I reckon I've got it pretty much right."

This is inteded to be a brief AAR - I'll just drop in with updates when something interesting happens... Sometimes they'll be in this style, which I have shamelessly stolen from Boothby Graffoe on Radio 4, but I've written the next entry and already it seems a little bit old, so I'll vary it a bit as time passes.

Difficulty: Normal (IIRC)
Agression: Normal (IIRC)
Scenario: 1066
Version: 1.02

Thanks for the comment Mike - I'll assume that there weren't more due to the forums being down ;)

Part Two: Conquests.

"So servant boy, over the past 20 months I have married the beautiful heiress Agnes d'Aquitaine, promoted the cultivation of forests in my lands to provide a rich source of income for my people, and conquered the islands we see before us of the 'Canaries' for my kingdom. Yet it is you who appears in the deepest though, as if it were you who needed to plan the next move of our great Kingdom."

"Well M'lord; I've been looking out over the vast sandy beaches before us here, and a thought occurred to me. In the future I reckon, attracted by the sunlight and vast areas of sand, vast hordes of the Germans and English would travel to these isles in summer..."

"You forsee an invasion of the Hun!" exclaimed the king! “Shall I prepare our defences?"

"No," the servant replied "The pilgrims, or 'tourists' as they would become known would spent their days lying upon the beaches in the sun, causing them to gain a cancer of the skin, and spent their night consuming vast quantities of beer and dancing to loud, pounding music, and, while causing the occasional problems for the authorities, adding many thousands of coins to the local treasury."

"A horde of Germans and Englishmen known as 'tourists'," spoke the king, "I'm not sure that scares me any less than an invasion! Are you not mistaken in your premonitions?"

"Maybe." said the servant boy to himself, "but I reckon I've got it pretty much right."

How... apt. He's a dark prophet, this servant of yours. Are the Canaries independent at the start of the game? I had thought they were part of one of the Moslem kingdoms... but a nice addition nonetheless, and possibly the Duchy of Bordeaux too... though that might make the Reconquista too easy.

Looking forward to this. Currently playing León at home too. Crappy advances from start but that’s nothing a little research can´t alter :)

Hmmh. I'm getting pretty annoyed by everybody using Agnes d'Aquitane, as in some part of the game, CK becomes too easy (at least before new problems arrive) - and making the game too easy from the beginning is just - well, lame.

Otherwise, an OK AAR.

(I hope I wasn't too negative? - just had to release my pressures)

Maybe Agnes is overused.... but in at least two of my games as Iberian kings she has failed to produce me a son, and her stats aren't the greatest - in the current game (i.e. This AAR) my first born has a stewardship of 2...

A third part of this AAR should be out this evening, and maybe a forth if I get time to actually play the game for a while... [I had played on for a while, then got bored and used the 'die' cheat on the annoying son with the low stewardship... so I'm restarting it from the last save before that.]

Anything else interesting happen yet? ;)

Well, to be honest I got bored and so this AAR is dead (especially as I accidentaly deleted the save file.)

I'm not a negative person (normally) but Paradox's policy of patching everything so well has me currently not wanting to start any serious playing until 1.03 solves a couple of niggles.
