The various heavy tank and light tank production models. The heavy tank production model gives your armoured units penalties to movement and defense in various terrain, -1 morale, and slightly increased supply cost. The benefits are a paltry 0,5 increase in maxorg and a new brigade model.

The funny part is that the light tank tech seems to do the exact opposite, mitigating the penalties you get from heavy tank research. However, it gives a nasty -4 maxorg to your armoured units. Hence if you research both, your armour will end up with -3,5 maxorg and no benefits, in return for unlocking some new brigades.

I'm not against techs only unlocking new brigades, but it seems stupid that you receive a net nerf to unbrigaded divisions' performance as an added 'bonus'.

Brigades in CORE all have different jobs to do, as it were - so AT attachments will help vs tanks, recon (Armoured Car) attachments add some extra firepower to the unit, and Engineers help with river crossings and digging in, etc.

Note that most of these attachments are actually "Battalion" sized (c.1,000 men) - NOT "brigade" sized (c. 3-5,000 men), hence the terminology. Hence also why their effects are perhaps less drastic than in other mods.

Hi,

Short answer: the effects seen are designed to replicate the RW effect of replacing some of the medium tanks in the normal TO&E of your applicable divisions. This is sort of a mixed bag as some nations did this pretty routinely while others did not.

Light Tanks: Lower cost (build, supply, oil), easy to maintain (+MOR) and better mobility (terrain bonuses). OTOH lower combat capability (-ORG). Most nations discontinued production of these type vehicles rather quickly as they just we're effective in combat. Good for nations with higher ORG than MOR, such as the SOV, which used these much longer than most.

Heavy Tanks: Strong in combat (+ORG). OTOH, higher cost (build, supply, oil), hard to maintain (-MOR) and poor mobility (terrain penalties). Good for nations that want maximum ORG and that will build the attachments as well. Basically GER/SOV in late game.
