We have all heard tales of his exploits (via the unit descriptions), but what do we really know of the individual known as Mah Reg'Nib? Although he is very detailed in describing the universe, his accounts leave very few details about himself. We don't even know what race he belongs to (as far as I know). He could even be some hitherto unseen halfling IN SPACE.

So I wish to ask you all, have we uncovered any clues as to whom this individual is (aside from Ray Bingham's author avatar)

It seems he worked for a company that did Xenoplague research for a time, but said "screw this I'm out" when things got crazy.
“Legend states we killed our gods, replacing them with entertaining technologies. The gods, beholding their demise, planted doom within us: a seed called Hubris. Witnessing the creation of this abomination, I hear the dead gods laughing.”
– Mah Reg’Nib, Quitting the Xenocorp

Given the name I always assumed he'd be Kir'ko.

Hmmm that is interesting. And makes it sound like he isn't Kir'ko because it seems to me that the Star Union was not using them for anything more than slave labor. Definitely not as a researcher.
He also doesn't sound like a Kir'Ko. The quotes are always read in the person's voice, and he doesn't have the reverbration.

It could still happen. Just because usually they did not, does not mean they never did.

If they did, they would not have given him the option to leave however.
Also the part where he clearly equates himself with humanity/the Star Union, as the techno-phile/hubristic faction.
And the Voice Modulation thing, of course.

I found another information. Flavor Text of the Ascended Teacher (Celestian T4/ultimate unit).
He mentions that he reminds him of "religious people of old". And he makes it sound like he was there, rather then just having read about it.. And the he asked the teacher "Are you happy?"
