I'm curious, is the map spherical like in Imperator: Rome?
I assumed as much, but I haven't actually seen it confirmed anywhere.

Also, they said the map would be expanded a bit - it'll contain a bit more to the east, all the way to the eastern end of Tibet, and more to the south, I think they said past the Sahara and up to the Congo jungle?

Anyway, I think it'd be very useful to be able to CHOOSE parts of the map to disable. So for example, when starting a game and selecting game rules, you can choose different regions to be enabled in the game. For example, if you choose a ruler in Europe, you can deselect India, Central Asia, and Africa. Then those regions won't load and the game can run faster. Make it required for Ironman if you're worried about the effect it has on the balance of the game. But if we, as players, know that we want a particular game to be fairly small in scope, it'd be a helpful option.

I think this'll become especially useful if they intend to ever add an on-map China to the game in a DLC. While especially as a Mongol horde it can be fun to dominate China and eastern Europe, if we don't intend to interact with that part of the map, let us leave it out. And, if you want to play in China, then you don't have to enable Europe or Africa, either.

Does anybody agree with me, or am I alone in this? (this comes from wishing I could disable Rajas of India's map extension without having to play an old version)

I agree with you that it should be included in the game rules, but Paradox should focus on balancing (and preferably optimizing) the default settings.

When you deviate from the default settings it should be on your own risk, since when you excluded India, while it is meant to be included, it could destabilize the game.

I specifically asked about the curved/spherical map and it is not. It does include Eastern Tibet and sub-saharan African, but didn't get a better answer than that. I highly doubt they'll allow regions to be disabled, everything is so interconnected.

Btw it's one of the main reasons why India was added to the game, so that the Seljuks would have something to the east for balance.

I'm not sure about an option to turn down entire regions. This isn't something that exists in most games. We don't know yet how it affects performance anyway, but in any case I believe it's more the kind of thing to expect from mods than actual game features.
