I've read some aars, the one here and a couple over at the Take Command site. The map is the same in each case. Obviously they are all using the demo. My question is whether there is more than one battlefield map available in the finished game and am I right in believing I saw the option to play this game as a campaign? If so are there campaign maps available?

Edit: I meant MMG not Take Command, sorry.

There are 8 maps total in the game. One for actions at Cedar Mountain, 3 for actions at 2nd Manassas, 1 for Chantilly and 3 more that can be used in Open Play. By campaign play, it means that some scenarios are linked, casualties you take in the first scenario, carry over into the linked ones.

Ah, so the campaign is more predetermined than it is open play?

Here is how the campaign works. Lets say you are Jackson at Cedar mountain: If you are defeated you can not play as Jackson at 2nd Manassas. If you win at Cedar Mountain but do so with heavy losses of men and officers those men and officers will be gone when you get to 2nd Manassas which will make it much more difficult to win at 2nd M. Otoh, if you win at Cdar Mountain with low casulties you will show up at the 2nd M battlefield with more troops than Jackson did in 1862.

What this does in gameplay is it makes you much more cautious in the earlier battles. Sure you need to win, but you want to conserve lives while winning. Pyric victories are no longer victories

It sounds like I'll be husbanding my resources. It sounds tricky trying to win with as little casualties as possible.

Easier said than done!

I was playing a scenario that I designed and therefore knew what "might" happen. I was determined not to let my boys get their dander up and bite off more than they could chew. Well, one of my brigades routed the enemy to their front and pursued them into some woods. Once in the woods my men ran into at least two enemy brigades. I then fell victim to the heat of battle and ordered two more of my brigades into the woods to support the first one, instead of ordering it to withdraw.

After some hard fighting the enemy was driven off, but only to be replaced two fresh brigades. Argh! Those boys in blue hit hard and soon my line was wavering so I threw in my reserve brigade to stablize the line and eventually repulse the enemy.

Even knowing what kind of trouble I could get into, I managed to get involved in a fight that I did not need or want, in which four of my six brigades suffered needless casualties, with one brigade so shot-up as to be pretty much combat ineffective. Now I have to worry about winning the next carry-over scenario, and it will be harder that it needs to be because of my mistake in this battle.

Man I love this game :D

In our next game we will have campaigns.

Sounds great. I'm sure I read somewhere that Shiloh is up next? Not that a Brit like me knows much about the history of the ACW. Now if only a company would produce a good ECW game...I'd be in heaven.
