@Fürstbischof

Any chance of getting a mirror? I stupidly deleted my Victoria I without checking to see if I had your fix backed up and the filefactory download seems to be permanently on 'server overload'. I've tried four times now at different times to grab it without success.

I'm lucky, because that link was still working for me few days ago when I downloaded VIP for the first time.
You can download the mod from my backup. I hope that @Fürstbischof doesn't mind. I like to have backups of forgotten mods for classic games :)

The download link from filefactory is still active. The last download was just 10 hours ago.

Whatever might have been your problem in October, it was probably just a server-related problem of filefactory... :(

Yep, I do the same. Well, ok, I also needed the hard lesson of a hdd crash. :(

Today I'm relying on several hdds... ;)

Update

Last week, when we had no internet connection for several days, I got bored and decided to fix something which had been bothering me ever since. In Ricky, the tag SLV is used for Slovakia and the tag SLO is used for Slovenia, while in AOD it's the other way around. That causes the occasional hiccup while working on unitnames. Both nations don't play a major part in this era or in the mod, so that could be quickly done. In doing so I could also fix a funny bug which forced Austria to release Tokugawa instead of, at least what I thought most appropriate, Bosnia. To my great surprise, the party files didn't need a change because they had been swapped!

Work on translating the last missing texts has commenced. I've reviewed 113 of the last 160 event files for hidden english text fragments. I haven't counted yet, but there were very few untranslated texts - less than 30? The still missing files will surely have more text, since its sub_directory is named "VIP_flavor".

There will probably no update this year, simply because there are several competing tasks. I also haven't decided yet whether to add an expanded unitnames.csv file, which would include revised division names for most of the playable nations.

when I went to war with denmark over north schleswig, I got an event that basically forced me to make peace with them. the description said that schleswig and holstein will get released, I thought okay bro and clicked on it. however, denmark just annexed holstein and took back schleswig as a puppet (I annexed them after occupying them). was this my mistake by annexing them or what is the issue here, or is this wanted?

Keep in mind, that there have been TWO wars over Schleswig-Holstein. Important events like these are heavily scripted to achieve the historical outcome. You won't get the provinces in the first war, but you'll get another chance in 1864. Just be patient...;)

ahh, I forgot about that, I just thought the event fired early. many thanks

It seems there's been an update, with a new file from 6 months ago? Thanks for keeping the old lady fresh! What changed?

Don't worry, that was just a re-upload as the download link went down because of inactivity.

Maybe in a few days I'll post an update on the current status.

Hi,

I just recently dug out Ricky and installed VIP. While playing as China, I managed it to survive and got all technologies necessary for becoming "civilized". However, due to heavy industrialization, I became a great power. The event changing China into a civilized nation has not triggered even 5 years after getting the last tech required. Is this due to my Great Power status?

Thanks!

Have you managed to become "civilized" as China in the meantime?

Sometimes events are skipped by the engine if you play for too long or just at a too high game speed for longer periods. Saving and reloading on a regular basis is strongly recommended for VIP:R.

Looking at the civilize.txt file in the ...\scenarios\VIPscen\events\vanilla sub-directory you'll find several events which have the desired
command = { type = civilized value = yes }
Not all of these events are valid for China but some should be... (The China.txt file has another event.)

But keep in mind, that all of these events are actually inventions which can take a lot more time to trigger than regular events. I had once a game which never allowed me to build carriers although all research had been done in time. :(

Hi,

thanks a lot for clarification. I managed it to become civilized. the event fired 15 years after I researched all techs. Meanwhile, I reloaded an older save and the event fired 6 month after I researched the last tech necessary. So everything is fine.

Glad to hear that it was just bad luck...

Nevertheless, there are still bugs that I have not found. There is at least one (quite rare) bug that causes a CTD that I wasted several hours on. Later Paradox games are better at helping you track down bugs, but Ricky lists only the last event that actually worked.

Update

Oh well, it's just 6 months that I had written "in a few days". You can guess that my spare time wasn't spend on modding... (nope, neither on playing games)

Nonetheless, the original plan for 2025 was to upload the completed translation of VIP:R, probably spiced up with some flavour events which would partially cover the late game phase. In addition, I had intended to add a revised version of my naval mod improving some naval aspects of the game while also providing a largely expanded, more historically accurate unitnames file.

The last non-translated text snippets are already identified and need only be mass-translated. Re: flavour events I've gathered all the data on the noble prize winners, but haven't yet decided how to implement the events. Based upon a lucky find in a magazine I might add some flavour events by my own. In addition, I will add a few American flavour events posted here in the forum. But TBH I remember seeing some Chilean, too, but haven't found them on my hdd...

My naval mod and the revised unitnames file are an entirely different beast. There have been only minor additions and fixes. Time will tell.

Yep, time is still an issue, so that I'm not going to make any promises. The last 2-3 years were not beneficial to my modding activities, although I've never lost interest.
