Ok, this may have been thought of before. If so, tell me to go away. In the event that it has not, however, I'm hoping this could be fun. I'm fascinated by the option of guiding a country through 900 years of history (CK, EU2, Ric & HOI2). However, time restraints tend to keep me from attaining my goal. Additionally, I'd like to see a country develop as it did historically with multiple rulers striving for vastly different goals, as compared with a single player who can easily turn a country into a hyperpower since they essentially act as a single ruler with a 900 year lifespan. Instead, it would be interesting to have a different individual player for each dynasty ruler. It would be a single-player game but one shared between dozens of players (thus the MP reference). The first player plays until the first ruler dies, at which point the save game file is passed on to the next player on the list, so on and so forth. At the very least this could take us to the end of EU2 (it would be more difficult to encompass this idea in Ricky - maybe a different player per election - and virtually impossible in HOI2). The rules are pretty simple:

- do everything possible to keep the dynasty alive (purposely killing your heirless ruler defeats the essense of this experience)
- post an AAR with the length of your choosing on a thread devoted to this purpose
- DID (dead is dead) rules: if your ruler dies from a freak illness or battlewound after a mere 2 year reign, no reloading. If you lose a big chunk of your kingdom, no reloading. Autosave should be implemented but only to prevent a CTD from ruining the game. Let's keep this as realistic as possible.
- 1 player = 1 ruler...pretty simple
- play however you want. A ruler may pass on his goals for the kingdom to the "successor" player but these should be viewed as simple guidelines. If you want to spend all of your gold on a crusade against the heathens, so be it. If you die halfway through the crusade and your successor feels like focusing on building up the kingdom's infrastructure instead of finishing your crusade, so be it.

Now, how to join and what to do when you have:
(1) Leave a post in this thread to let me know you want to play. I'll add you to the list below.
(2) New rule! PM me an email address so that I may forward the game save to you when the person before you is finished. *Disclaimer* I will not sell, trade, gift, or give your email address to anyone without your express permission, nor publicize it in any way, shape, or form.
(3) Leave a post on this thread stating that you have begun to play so that I know that you have the save.
(4) Play until your ruler dies and save the game when he does. Compress it and email it to me as soon as you can. Note that this has changed as well.
(5) Post an AAR in the AAR thread at your earliest possible convenience. If you cannot post your AAR within a day or two (for whatever reason; RL events, your ruler began his reign at the age of 2 and lived to see his 80th birthday, etc.) then please leave a place-marker post in the AAR thread. You may then edit that post and insert your AAR at your leisure. This enables the next person to post their AAR without rushing you.

Note: Here's the order of players so far and their respective ruler. A * next to a name denotes my possession of an email address for that player. To keep the game progressing quickly I will email the save game to the next person in line for whom I have an email address. It is the player's responsiblity to get a valid email address to me. Additionally, it is important that you post confirmation on the boards when you have received the save. Failure to do so within 24 hours will result in me sending the save to the next person on the list to prevent any holdups.

Please note that if we can't get the game to you we will move you down the list in favor of someone who's email we do have. Don't take it personally, we're just trying to keep things running smoothly. This also means that you should check back every so often to see if your predecessor has changed. If they have, you'll need to PM them with your addy. Once new membership has slowed and we start looping I'm hoping we can open a database so that we can quickly send the game to whoever is currently available (otherwise we'll be playing this until we're old and grey). I'll let you know when that happens. Thanks!

Just the larger one.

Uploading now. The save starts a few days into the successor's reign (game speed was very fast and I couldn't get to the pause button in time). Near the end of the first reign the King of Sweden died and passed his titles on to the Duke of Uppland, so selecting either Sweden or the Uppland Duchy should give you the same thing.

lol I can just imagine CSK turning in his grave when he sees some newbie ruler ruining his lifework

Well then, show us if you ruin my lifework. :p

On a sidenote, when will we get the AAR thread?

Working on it as we speak.

Im to unlucky to play without reloads, i usually die of age at 16 or get killed in battle with my 50.000 army against 16 pagan rebels.

Give it a shot. The av Munso dynasty has little trouble in procreating (the dynasty's founder had no fewer than 11 children survive his death). There should be plenty of other av Munsos out there for you to grant the throne to if you die at 16.

yes well then i went through all the trouble just to rule in a few minutes.

*Throws grand hitler sized schemes of world dominations aside*

But u should really once in a while give the throne to the biggest newbie u can find just to add some flavour and realism.

The AAR thread can be found here . It would appear that I don't know how to upload screenshots; I have them uploaded on Flickr but can't get to show up in the AAR. At risk of sounding like an idiot, could someone explain the process to me? :(

go to www.imageshack.us, upload the picture and use the first forum link code in ur replys.

Thanks. I'll be sure to get those up.

I'm actually hoping that some newbies will join up and really throw a wrench in the works every so often (if people are slow to join the game I might try my hand again, seeing as how I just started playing a few days ago). Much as some kings spent their entire reigns draining the treasury into wine-soaked festivals and then leaving it to their heirs to clean up their mess, I'm hoping some people will make the kingdom FUBAR and then leave the mess for the next player. That will truly make the game interesting.

Well if not many join up u could make it more fun by rotating it and then making specific supreme goals, like try desperatly to get a number of dukes under ur command before u die or the opposite revoke all ur dukes without getting a civil war, or getting the capital province of the seljuk turks and holding it for 10 years.

Such goals would ultimately have a somewhat deteriorating effect on the kingdom in whole.

Or u could try to Roleplay with the traits ur character have, so if his a religious fanatic u change ur laws to church supremacy and promote clergy power everywhere.

no i best not be playing, as i said i have terrible luck.

Hey, I'm second in row. Nitrate, you get my save when my King dies. If this is ok for you of course.

Were you able to get the download above? I'm trying a new data server and wanted to make sure it works. And I'm thinking that, to spare the confusion of several people downloading the same save, it might be a good idea just to PM the file link to people in the future rather than posting it on the thread itself like I did.
