The crossroads of the world at the edge of it.

I like those 2 random orthodox provinces in the middle of nowhere.

In an ironman game I saw 3 provinces in that area who were all Norse. In the same game there was a reformed Zunist province (I reformed that religion) in Mongolia/Uighuristan. Sadly didn't take screenshots.

That said, Christianity is becoming popular on the steppes it seems. Note those various Catholic provinces.

My wife is the only daughter of the Khanate of Khazaria, and my ex-Brother in Law is the heir. There's a better then average chance my dynasty is going to inherit a gigantic chunk of the Steppes.

The fact that ERE managed to reconquer the Balkans is a feat. For last few months I have never seen AI ERE to ever retake anything in Balkans except Bulgaria. They just focus eastwards (or onwards into Russia) for all centuries.

Aw man, sick! I want an AI-restored Roman empire too! If I was running that game I would do anything to break up the Abbasids and lay out the welcome mat for Imperator Philotheos

EDIT: Not that he'd do it of course. I've yet to see an aggressive Basileus

Well, we did win the crusade for Jerusalem and I'll be happy to participate in any further crusades the Pope would like to call. I've got Welsh and Scots to absorb into the Kingdom though. It's not like the Basileus has needed help thus far...

Well, this was the 769 start and the Abbasids were able to conquer the small states in Anatolia rather quickly. So, I think the AI was scared off and looked for easier prey elsewhere. Marrying the Queen of Italy was an incredible stroke of luck. We'll see if the heir can hold things together.

Go home, Saxony. You're drunk.

They're trying to get reunited with their Anglo-Saxon brothers but went to the wrong Britain.

Not to mention your realm is being pillaged all over.

That was the main point of that screen. I mean, 3 raiders at the same time? Really?

My mother blackmails me for having a lover, the thing is that not only is she my mother, she herself is a cheater.

Don't know if this qualifies as strange, but I've never seen the world this shattered

I'm partially responsible for the mess, since I married the heir to West Francia, and had like 6 sons, so every single kingdom went to different sons, then the Karlings started rebelling like crazy, breaking the kingdoms further. The Byzantines were stable for some time and then they started having problems with revolts, and then in a couple of years the muslims took them over completely (the pic is after a crusade for Greece), before they themselves started falling apart. Basically only Lombardy is holding out, everything else is just a mess :D

I've never played the Charlemagne start, maybe this is common for it I don't know, but was strange for me, not to mention I can't look at the map at all :D
