This was taken after the failed 2nd Crusade in which the Pope, the Lombard Kingdom, and the British and Irish petty rulers attempted to liberate northern Italy from the Amazon pagan realm of Scythia (culturally named Skythia in game) ruled by Queen Zenobia. Ah well, at least this time, the Pope didn't called a crusade against me (the failed 1st Crusade was for Jerusalem
). Meanwhile the Byzantines (culturally named Basileia Rhomaion in game) had been suffering religious strife as a result of the Emperors' failure to resolve the Scythian menace (the capture of Constantinople by the Scythians certainly didn't help matters). Also ever the Viking Age event fired, Scythian raiders have been prowling the Mediterranean like a pack of wolves. I had to keep my retinues on constant raid suppression duty since the Scythians seem to love raiding the Levantine coast (At least the Scythians can't take captured men as lovers, I would've hate to see what would happen if male concubines were enabled).

On the domestic front, my first ruler Miriam the Great had just died and was succeeded by her grandson Sabriel (Miriam the Great's eldest daughter and Sabriel's mother Miriam, the Duchess of Galilee died from illness less than a year before my ruler). Although my new ruler is a genius, he has a couple of problems. First of all, he's arbitrary which is always bad news when it comes with dealing with vassals. Second he has an ambitious sister in Princess Miriam, the Rozenet (Countess) of Beirut and an ambitious aunt in Princess Ruth the Duchess of Babylon (culturally renamed d_bagdad). Third his wife is a Nestorian Kurd (his mother foolishly married him to the daughter of the Duchess of Assyria [culturally renamed d_mosul]). Last but not least he's taken the seduction focus which already have him sleeping with a member of the Distaff Guard with a simpleton bastard daughter named Simonis as a result.
At least both his father and grandfather are still alive so at least the imperial court won't quickly devolve into numerous cliques and factions. Thank the Creator for small favors (the Abbasids dealing with religious strife helps too).

The AI can and does actually create custom kingdoms, it's just fairly rare because before they reach the requirement they can usually create a dejure kingdom first.

I once saw Abbasids (stripped of their empire) create a custom kingdom in Mesopotamia, which created a real bordergorge in The Middle East.
It hasn't been rare in my games that someone creates a custom kingdom somewhere in southern Arabia.

Probably what Dahoota said. The funny thing is that guy was the former emperor of Germany and he got ousted. Hard-nosed guy got back on his feet and became Teutonic king.

Strangest Pope I've ever seen in my 300 hours of CKII. He's been rotting in the prisons of different random barons for decades, presumably for seducing the wives of pretty much all his vassals. I know seduction focus is kind of broken but really? Note this baron assassinated his last wife after discovering her scandalous affair with the pope. Who knows how many secret papal bastards are out there...

Apparently even permanent darkness can't stop him for being Orthodox version of Rodrigo Borgia.

I wonder what they saw in a blind man.. or did he force them to be his lovers. I am going with the second one because that one makes the most sense. But hey weird things happen.. Although i believe he said if they did not become his lover..They would be dammed in hell.. besides being a man everyone hated.. What is his story anyway ?
