So in my latest ironman campaign I started in 867 as Haesteinn of Nantes. I was so focused on the takeover of the English isles that I only finally noticed by 1073 that China had been busy.

Having a character modifier saying you owe money to moneylenders is not the same thing as having a negative treasury balance, and it's clearly the latter that is happening here.

I started as the Berber tribe in Massat. I raided the mediterranean and gained some power in north africa. Then i conquered venice and became MR and after i took the opportunity to conquer some more of northern italy i started snowballing and blobbing in italy and germany and france.
So when the shia muslims have conquered italy, half of france and half of germany after raiding the mediterranean for 2 centuries, executing and torturing prisoners, the french king who is left ruling a few provinces of the broken kingdom of france must be surprised to learn that the POPE HAS CALLED A CRUSADE AGAINST HIM BECAUSE HE IS A JEW
