True and I think Theodora is also highly unusual, being an ancient champion of women's rights etc.. In this case her rank of nobility (byzantine empress), dynasty (lowborn) religion (buddhist) and culture (turkish) kind of surprised me.
No, I was just worshipping the ancestors on 4th day of my campaign. It is the event to carve out your own eye or "sacrifice that random guy".

Yeah, I played a little bit, turns out that's a pretty consistent bug, wrong character in the 2nd part of the event. Even AI does that.

Yes, I'm worried my cash will roll over into negative too. I have a million and a half and a yearly income of 20k. I managed to up my expenses to 13k per year for now, but that still leaves me with 8k per year and I have 80 years left to go.
As for how you can check the last link in my signature. Short version is that NK mode works well if you're big enough because the penalty caps at -90% so you get 10% of all the income produced by ever holding in your realm and can hire a large retinue. I also had the Mamluks and Ghilman mercenary companies as vassals, which helped me get over the hurdle of becoming large enough to rely strictly on my retinue.
