Post here your AARs. You will be rewarded handsomely for your writing, with the finest deflation editing can buy.

Also post your edits here.

As stated in the rules, you get -1 inflation for being on time, and you get -1 inflation for writing an AAR.

We'll have an AAR contest each week to see who's AAR is the best, decided by vote. The reward for winning the AAR contest will be .5 deflation, or, if you win it by more than 50 percent of the votes, you can have a FAA for 1/3 the price(unless there's a major objection to that, about the FAA).

Voting will start after wednesday at 24 CET. Votes before that won't be counted. Votes will be counted sunday at 6 CET(saturday night for me). Vote by PM to me, or if you really want to you can vote in this thread.

You can only win once every other week.

I'm thinking of letting anybody vote, not just players in the game. That'd be kind of fun.

Aar 1453 - 1480

this age of war and conquest starts in the capitol of stockholm

in this 1453 the swedish fleet & army set sail acros the baltic sea towards the teutonic order, when they arrived war was declared and invited the danish and polish to the war
the danish proved to be a great help in this however the polish where a lazy bunch that didn't even bother till peace was signed
, when majority of the army landed in the to things looked good and it was expected that to would fall soon. however in germany the brandenburgers started there own conquest and even tho it looked fine for now we where suprised to find out that the germans sold out there brothers in holstein to the english people, england was invited by bb to the north german war and soon started to siege the important city
ofcourse the swedish realm couldn't alow english presence this close to the baltic and thus send in his highest ranking leader to sneak in holstein & grab the siege from the english, basicle the english did the sieging for us :)

when the english realised what was going on the siege was over and holstein annexed by sweden :p right from under the english general

ofcourse the english didn't exactly like that and dowed the poor swedish, they tryd to beat the swedish fleet but failed miserable each time, the swedish lost 1naval batle in the entire war but lost a significant batle on the danish mainland vs warwick mostly due to the fast that i was stuppid enough to lower maintenance a few months earlyer
in the end tho the english accepted holstein to be swedish and so sweden got his victory. all is well in sweden!

after the war the swedish changed there focus on more ai in the region, more specificle the danish, armys where prepared and set in position before i let the polish dow denmark, denmark fell with minimum losses and so the swedish now dominate scandinavia permanently

when denmark surrendert another war brook out between bb-england and burgundy, even tho i felt a bit sorry for burgundy i just dowed bb to grab some coastal provinces wich was pretty easy to get, bb gave up on both pommmern provs without a real fight so another nice victory for the swedish,
when bb surrendert the remaining forces of sweden where send north again to prepare for another war vs the danish, this war is currently stil going but is more or less already lost for the danish norway & denmark is occupyd only iceland and faroer are stil holding vs the english forces at this point
15000 danish have dug in on the island of faroer so this war might take ages before english can land on that piece of crap island.

during this period sweden received several stategifts + a exceptional year and things are looking bright for swedish future

I thought that such edits were against our editing policy... If we cant edit provinces why should we edit vassals?

Burgundy / Flanders AAR

I – 1453-1480

This was a tumultuous time for Burgundy as under the incompetent regency she lost a war against France where all her French possessions were given up. That plus the economic mismanagement meant that she was in poor shape by 1468 when Charles took over fully.

At once we decided to set out goals in getting to infra 3, and to rebuild our pitiful army. Yet almost as soon as we had finished this, we were pounced on by England who tried to take our capital and maps. Luckily they were ill prepared and we destroyed two of their armies. Soon afterwards we accepted their offer of a white peace.

Yet the warring was not over – just as we had recovered and built our army from the last war, we were then attacked by Brandenburg, or rather they attacked one of our vassals, which we accepted the invite for war from them. They were demanding several provinces from one of them, which we did not accept. So once again we fought another army, but this time we were less successful, despite beating back some of their armies, their counterattack almost wiped out ours. Furthermore we had rebels and they had started besieging our provinces. So we accepted their offer of leaving us alone while accepting they could take some of our vassal’s provinces.

After that war we finally had some good years of peace – inflation remained low, we managed to tech to infra 3 (and the ability to build refineries) and we became slightly less aristocratic. And finally during this period, Charles died without leaving a direct heir. As a result the Duke of Flanders was the nearest inheritor, and he decided that the new Netherland centric realm needed a name change to Flanders.

Venice 1453-1480

"You are all turks", Mocenigo said in the middle of one of the heated arguments in the grand council. They were just discussing the topic of whether to annex Genoa or not. Turk had become a by-word for somebody who annexes countries indiscriminately.

Mocenigo did not want to have Genoa annexed, despite it being the long time rival of Venice, and a very wealthy province. It was a matter of principle. That was something that unprincipled rulers did, something that Machiavelli would try to do, but Mocenigo believed that no nation should be put under the boot by force.

"You princes of Venice, your problem is that you have no principles. Sure, we could annex Genoa, but then what happens when, in the future, some other power has Venice in its grip? Will they think "Venice is a noble republic with princes of character and integrity that should be offered leniency", or will they see this precedent and say "those who live by the sword, die by the sword"? We must not barter our souls for Genoa".

He was drowned out by a chord of angry denunciations and curses, not only for saying that the top brass had no principles, but for suggesting that one day, Venice might be on her knees begging for mercy, that she would be in the same position as Genoa was now. This was just not good politics. But Mocenigo had never cared much for politics.

At the end of the day he walked out of the grand chamber all by himself. Nobody wanted to associate with him after that exchange. Just as well.
He didn't much care for any of them.

He yearned for the good old days, fighting the good fight, crusading against real enemies of God instead of piddling away his time with legislature and corrupt politics.

Back in 1453 was when Venice got set on its current course of "Italian unification", or Italian bondage. That doge, long since passed away, *insert whatever his name was*, pushed for war with the other states, and war was brought and the war brought riches to Venice. All the other states save for Genoa were bent over and, you get the idea. Power emanated from Venice, and so did evil. The evil one was at work.

But then an amazing thing happened. That doge was struck down by a ceiling tile in one of the sessions of the grand council. The ceiling was painted in a depiction of God reaching down to earth to grant his blessing to Adam and Eve. The tile containting the "hand of God", pointing, was the one that fell and struck the wicked man. His death was quick, not nearly painless enough.

Whatever demon possessed him had apparently returned home though, to the land of the Turks and incited the fervor that brought about the first "Jihad", as they would call it in their tongue. That was the word their sultan used to bend his subjects to his will, or the will of his evil master. The invasion from hell began.

From the relative safety of their lagoon, the upper crust of Venice watched as nation after nation was speared through by the vanguard of the oncoming Turks, under their maniacal leader Mehmed. He wore a great turban on his head, some say it was to conceal the horns, but in any case, the corruptness of his goals and the vileness of his methods was palpable. Mehmed was making a move on the heart of Christendom, to destroy the strong bastions of god.

From Bosnia to Croatia to Wallachia to Hungary, nation after nation fell by the way-side, and as Austria fell into conflict with Poland, the Turks saw no need to stop as their charismatic leader Mehmed led the infestation of the Danube valley.

And then a brave leader rose to the top in Venice, an old veteran named Hector. He railed against the careerists and the land gobblers of Italy, saying that if nothing were done to help Austria now, they would all be guilty of betrayal to the cross, and would soon find themselves in the same position of Austria. It carried. The treasury was soon emptied equiping a new army that would stand shoulder to shoulder with Austrians, defending the ancient lands of the Hapsburgs.

Meanwhile, the fleet was sent to harass the Turks in Asia Minor and the Mediteranean, causing as much damage and distraction as possible. The fleet commander, however, caught a southerly wind that swept half his forces down to the coast of Egypt. Not one to waste an opportunity, he landed and took control of Alexandria, then swept into Cairo and proclaimed himself ruler of Egypt. The Shah of the Mamelukes was forced to surrender the fortresses surrounding Alexandria to regain control of his country, and promised eternal peace. So, leaving a small detachment behind, this brave, bold fleet commander sailed on to Asia minor, where he would reconnoiter with the rest of the fleet and wreak what havoc he could on the Asian coast.

45,000 men lined the slopes of the Austrian foothills, looking down on the city of Pest. It had been enveloped for months, the people inside were starving, and it was reported that Mehmed had resorted to catapulting severed heads into the city instead of rocks or debris. If ever there was a battle that needed to be fought, this was it.

Mehmed, insane, maniacal, genius, ambitious beyond measure, had measured the power of his attackers and chose to hold the line, and in the first parts of the battle, his plans thwarted the tactics of the Venetians. Thousands were lost, but then there was a breakthrough. A break in the clouds, the sun shown down from the heavens for a few minutes, bearing down and blinding the eyes of the Turks, turning defeat into a victory, a rout. Mehmed escaped with only a third of his 30,000 men, and was pursued all the way to Serbia.

Celebrations were held, drinking and shouting and merrymaking, but they should've known better. Their victory was nothing but a miracle, and it wasn't long before the Turks came back, finishing off the defenses of Pest and pushing on to Austria. They were held for a time, but as it passed, they came further and further to the capital. A battle was fought for its defense, but this time the Venetians and the Austrians were overrun, their pride, their arrogance, it was shattered along with the lives of many citizens who died in the insane looting and pillaging to take place afterward.

Venice's army retreated to home soil. Austria's army was finished. The only hope came from the fleet, which won stunning victories in the Aegean, reducing the Turkish navy by almost half and then seizing ports on the east side of the Bosphorus. But even those victories did not last, once the Seljuk divisions of Turkey reformed and caught their army in the middle of an inland seige. They were forced back out to sea.

Indeed, the war looked dim, but things are not always as they seem. Mehmed had caught the plague. He tried to keep it a secret, but word slipped out, bringing hope that maybe, must maybe if he died the Turks would lose the will to fight, and at the same time, Poland accepted a seperate peace with Austria.

Mehmed didn't die. What happened was he consolidated his position by accepting peace for the two main provinces of Hungary, which Austria had controlled, and withdrew his forces. For how long? Nobody can know. To Austria, this war was a disaster. Many families were broken up by the loss of a son, a father, a brother, uncle. Venetians on the other hand regarded it as a victory. The Turks were stopped from storming over Europe, in no small part because of the gallant help of the Venetians, and the fleet had asserted Venice's control in the eastern mediteranean. Alexandria was ours, the economy flourished once again.

Old Hector, the brave stalwart leader that had carried them through the war, passed away quietly, and then it wasn't long before talks began to surface of further unification of Italy. A plot was hatched with the Castilleans to divide up the provinces of Genoa and the Papacy, something unheard of, but nonetheless carried through in the years following. The Pope, try as he did to find support from the other catholic nations, was helpless to bring aid against the country that had stopped the Turks. He could only watch as his lands were stripped. Venice declared that the Papacy would now be under the protection of Venetian and Castillian arms, lest he be vulnerable to attack from an aggressive power such as the Turks.

And Genoa was brought to heal. There was an option to simply vassalize it, but none of the major voices approved of that. It will soon be annexed.

--------------
10 years later.

Venice is a thriving nation with refineries in Ionia, three cots under its control and the grandest fleet in the med. For the past 6 years, the government has taken little part in shaping the course of the nation, it has merely idled on, slowly but steadily growing as the population becomes wealthier in the times of peace, and the treasury fills with gold from tariffs and census. But in this time, the Turks have also rebuilt their forces, Mehmed, old as he is, is still around, plotting, and who knows what nefarious plans the old demon has stewing in that man's cauldron of a mind.

Enrique IV and Alvaro de Luna

30 May of 1453. Alvaro de Luna was sitting on his palace thinking of what doing next. Everyone knew Navarra had one of the biggest coffers in all of Iberia. And since Alvaro did not have anything better to do, apart from ordering countless nobles to be hanged (certain nobles in Castile were more powerful then the King himself), he decided to force the King of Navarra into submission, and force him to pay a hefty amount of cash to the Castilian Crown. Of course, Enrique suffered some kind of insanity right after, making him one of the best of the worst Kings in Europe.

3 June of 1453. Countless Castilians stroke Navarra with all their heart. But it seems that wasnt enough. They fail in their task of besieging Navarra's capital. Of course, this made the King's Insanity to escalate out of proportions, and he stabbed Alvaro de Luna himself to death. Poor Luna, lived only 3 days before i could even use him. :(

It took more then 1 year for the King of Navarra to surrender. But victory was assured. Navarra was made a vassal of Castile and was forced to pay the hefty amount of 400 ducats to Castile. Blanca of Navarra, the daughter of the King of Navarra, was also married to Enrique. However things werent that good and the King was unable to... "posess" the Queen on his wedding night. The worst was yet to come since he couldnt do it on the next thirteen years either... It was widely said that the King was homossexual but his prostitutes and bastards stated otherwise.

Enrique's Insanity

Enrique's madness didnt stop. Somewhere on the 1455's he decided to attack Aragon and ordered countless cities to be pillaged and razed to the ground. Of course such filled the Castilian coffers soundly, to the displeasure of the French monarch. Who cares about what he says, anyway? The Portuguese King, Afonso V, the African, widely known for his sucessful campaigns in North africa didnt like that either, and he decided to declare war on us. Splendid! More provinces at a lesser Badboy cost!

Countless Portuguese armies swept into Andalusia and Extremadura. Our brave soldiers, without a proper general couldnt seem to win a single battle against him and these 2 cities are lost on the process. Luckily for us we caught Afonso crossing a river and the Portuguese main army was defeated. All Portuguese cities surrender some time afterward but that was not enough. Our brave soldiers cried for plunder! And so did our coffers... :)

Almost one decade after countless murders, fires, and rapes, peace was a reality in Castille. Sadly the same cant be said on the rest of Europe. England was too busy with the Swedish barbarians and so was the Austrian monarch busy with the Polish and Turks. The latter, so busy, he didnt even have time to speak with our diplomats. Anyway, after such a long war, Castile had the biggest coffers in all of Europe. The Treasury was estimated to posess about 4000 ducats. Again, we were forced to hear the French King complaining and disaproving the way we amassed such a large amount of cash. We couldnt care less...

In the meanwhile, the Pope finally nulifies the marriage between Enrique and Blanca, on the grounds that some "witchcraft" had prevented Enrique from from consummating the marriage. Enrique then quickly marries Juana of Portugal, sister of Afonso V. Again, Enrique was unable to consummate the marriage for unknown reasons. Perhaps his previous and current wifes werent that atractive? Hopefully for all, he died without producing a single heir. What aberration would be the son of such a crazy, insane, monarch? Only God knows. Anyway, Enrique shall be forever remembered as the Impotent.

The creation of the Kingdom of Spain

With Enrique's death there was no able male to take up the Castillian throne, so the only choice there was, was Isabella, Enrique's half sister. She quickly married Fernando of Aragon, and not much hapened since. The only and most important thing was, that 5 refineries were built. No one in Europe has managed to do such. Another great feat was that since Castille controlled almost all of Iberia, the country was renamed España, or Hispania in Latin. Hispania in Latin was the name given to all of the Iberian peninsula. Obviously the Portuguese didnt quite like this idea and felt insulted, and Afonso V is again fighting another hopeless war againt us. And this one, is expected to be the last.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In the end, Castile, or rather Spain, is so rich as their european counterparts, got so many, or even more able men then any other nation to take up arms and fight for their lords, got the 2nd strongest fleet in the mediterranean, and is also building 5 refineries - while no one built one yet. Soon, we will be more powerful then anyone because God Wills It.

Please edit in 315 ducats in land tech (for the stab click) as well.

P.S. Nice AAR John, but Machiavelli was 11 years old at this time ;)

I've taken inspiration from the old "where's waldo books". From now on my AARs will be otherwise known as the "where's the anachronism" series.

BTW, it looks like all countries received 0 votes for best AAR this week, a tie, so there is no winner and no prize will be given.

Venice AAR 1480-1521

When Mehmed died, hope kindled in the hearts of the free men of Venice. The cloud that hung over Turkey thinned out, ever so slightly. Barbaringo, a man of virtue, a man of honor and saintly qualities, rose to lead his people to war against the Ottoman oger, challenging them to raise an army, build a fleet, anything necessary to combat the evil of their day. God would be with them.

Ships raised to 160 galleys, army raised to 60,000 horse, 40,000 infantry, the force sailed out to meet the adversary on the high seas, where Ottoman ships surged out to meet them, only to find that they were no match for the crusaders.

Venice's grand army landed in Constantinople, but the Turks were no where in sight to defend their capital. The seige began, but no army dared touch the christian encampment, only making token raids and harassments, and ultimately, a year later, this fortress of evil fell. Venetian armies then boarded ship before a real counter attack could be marshaled. Would it be the end of the nightmare that had started in 1453, with the fall of the Byzantines?

Turkey persevered. The dark presence was still strong, it was not organized or backed by the same resources of a generation ago, but the Venetians had to fight hard when they landed in Egypt, in pursuit of the Ottoman King Bayazed II.

His force made its stand in the Nile basin, against a Venetian charge of 4x his numbers. Had it been Mehmed in charge, maybe they would've held, but the Venetians were fed by the fervor of men of God, and the Turkish leader was only a shadow of his forebear. The Turks were slaughtered to the man.

One more army remained aloof in Egypt. South along the Nile, into the land of the Nubians it fled, with what remained of Bayazed's baggage train and it was rumored, an assortment of magical potions and spells, with powers unknown. The Venetian general had to leave covering forces on the surrounding cities while he lead 20,000 men into the heart of Egypt, over the hot sand, the pyramids, and the ghosts of the dead pharoah's.

But the trail was getting hotter. Turkey's army was slowing down and getting ready to fight. Scouts reported that it prepared to make a stand on the other side of the Nile about ten leagues to the south. When they could see the banners of Islam, camp was pitched, a palisade raised for a night of rest before the final showdown.

That night, at about 3 AM, a cry went out, a hundred, a thousand cries, an army in unison crying the name of Allah, sweeping into the walls of the palisade, breaking the gate down and charging into the camp. Only to find... nothing. Empty.

But then, Venice's captains poured in to close the gate, and volleys of flaming arrows streamed into the camp, setting aflame ditches filled with pitch, igniting tents and logs and the poor souls who tried desperately to escape. But the Italians held tight, and nobody got out.

Meanwhile the cavalry and the rest of the army charged into the Turks outside and sent them running back into the Nile. Days later, officials in Alexandria noted many bodies floating downriver. A lot of Egyptian women wept after this. The army returned to the city a fortnight later with the plunder of the enemy's camp, and were happy to rest until news came of the Turkish surrender. The Egyptian lands west of the Nile would henceforth be the province of Venice. Cyprus was as well retained. Some of the men were posted in Egypt, where they found wives and made lives for themselves, while the most returned home to be celebrated on the streets of Venice.

The next few decades passed in relative peace. Milan and Florence were finally subjugated, and vigilance was kept in retaining the power of the fleet, while the neighbors to the north fought one another. Economically the city on the lagoon flourished, with trade pouring in and out. While the navy expanded, the army tended to fall behind, but it is only to be expected. While war leads to innovation, peace only leads to stagnation and rust.

Ferdinand and the 40 Thieves

January of 1480. The last Portuguese stronghold was one step of falling to our hands. At the same time Cairo is taken and new maps obtained for the good of Spain. But that was not enough. New maps had to be obtained, and new centers of trade discovered, if there was any hope of having a thriving trading economy in Spain. Crimea is made the new target and once they suffered from the same fate as the Mameluks in Egypt, we discovered many centers of trade in Siberia and in the Asian steppes. Thanks to Swedish intervention Lisbon is liberated and at the same time conquered by the proud Spanish troops. The reason was clear: to plunder the new maps of Portugal.

The New World

The Portuguese thought that the shortest way to India was by rounding Africa. But by 1486 a great Portuguese explorer called Columbus, yes a Portuguese explorer****, states that the shortest way is by going west. Many people were suspicious of this, stating Columbus was a Portuguese agent trying to dissimulate the Spanish Kings. Agent or not, the Spanish Kings accepted his proposal and so Columbus was sent into the unknown. At the same time Lisbon is finally incorporated into our realm, finally uniting all of christian Iberia.

Almost one year after his departure, Columbus finds solid earth! Sadly he was rather surprised the Native Indians he found didnt speak Indian and didnt posess any spices, and werent dressed like Indians either. But they did posess Gold. He continued his pursuit to the far west, but then he finally realized his western way to India was impossible. The world was far bigger then he thought and there was an entire continent on the way.

The Gold Fever!

After this failure it was obvious that what Columbus had found was not India. And to compensate these Indians did not posess anything of worth. Apart from Gold. A rich gold vein was found on an island and many colonists settled there afterwards. The colony was soon named Puerto Rico (Rich Port) due to the wealth produced there.

On the far west, on the continent, 3 empires were found. The Aztecs, the Mayans and the Zapoteks. The Aztecs were rumoured to have a massive amount of gold. Their Lake City, Tenochtitlan, was said to have many buildings made of pure gold. Alonso de Ojeda is sent alongside with a huge army of 30.000 men to conquer this fabled city. Sadly for us Ahuitzotl (a 5 shocker leader!), the current Aztek God-King routes our entire army.

If that was not enough we suffer from major atrition and only half our army survives... Alonso was not included. So much so that a new army had to be raised and El Gran Capitan sent to these lands... Didnt take much time till the greatest general of all times beated these infidels. Gold floods into our coffers as never before. Colonists are sent everywhere, new lands discovered, merchants gain control over monopolies, inquisitors teach these pagans that there is only one true God, navies are built, population booms. Truly, a glorious time for all of Iberia.

But this was not enough. The people (and our coffers of course) cried for more Gold. Gold veins were discovered in California and Alaska. The great Elmina on western africa was conquered as well. The great mines near Kaparu (today's Peru) colonized. We also discovered another great Pagan empire, the Incas. And Hernan Cortez is already on the process of mustering an army to convince them that their pagan ways are wrong. ;)

And so, the Catholic Kings of Spain will continue their search for every gold mine throught the entire world, and we shall suck it to the very last bullion.

****Columbus is Portuguese... Not Spanish, much less Italian!

colomb3.jpg

This was written on the second Papal Bull written on May 4 of 1494. As you can see what is written above is CRISTOFÕM COLON. That name is totaly portuguese, since there is no other language on the world that uses Õs.

Then we must remember that the Bull was totaly written on Latin. Columbus' name translation to latin is Christopher Columbus. Thus we can conclude it is not written on Latin. The Bulls were written in Rome and Columbus was Italian after all (or so people say). Columbus translation to Italian is Cristoforo Colombo. That isnt what is written, is it? The Bull was written to the Spanish Kings. The translation of Columbus' name to Spanish is Christóval Colon. That isnt what is written, either, is it?

So we are left with a question... Why is Columbus' name written in Portuguese, instead of Latin, Italian, or Spanish? But this is not the only evidence.

Christopher Columbus was not his real name. His real name was Salvador Fernandes Zarco. He was the son of Isabel Gonsalves Zarco, daughter of João Gonsalves Zarco, a jew born in Tomar, Portugal. João was the one that discovered the island of Porto Santo in 1418. Salvador Fernandes Zarco was born in a small village on the middle of nowhere, called Cuba, in Portugal. At the age of 14, he became a sailor and initiated his maritime life on Portuguese Caravels which were exploring the african coast. He was a sailor for more then 10 years, and in case you do not know, only Portuguese could ever enter a Caravel. If he was a foreigner, he would have been killed. It was part of our laws.

As you know Columbus discovered lots of islands on his expeditions. This is a full list of islands he discovered: S. Vincente, Santa Luzia, Guadiana, Ponta de Santo Antonio, S. João Baptista, Porto Santo, Mourão, Isabel, Sanctus Spiritus, Sta. Clara, S. Nicolau, Conceição, Cabo de S. João, Cabo Alfa, S. Domingos, Cabo Roxo, S. Miguel, Cabo Omega, S. Antonio, Sta. Catarina, S. Jorge, Ponta Galera, S. Bernando, Bocas das Serpentes, Boca do Dragão, Margarida, Ponta de Faro, Boca de Touro, Cabo Isabel, Ilha dos Guinchos, Salvador, Santarém, Cuba, Curaçao, Brasil, Belém.

Many of these names are common in both Spanish and Portuguese, but the following only exist in Portuguese: Brasil, Santarém, Curaçao, Faro, Belém, Touro, Ponta e Porto.

If he was not Portuguese, why did he baptized so many islands with Portuguese names? And if he was truly from Italy, why didnt he name some islands, Milan, Venice, Rome, Genoa, etc? And by the way, if he was truly Italian why hasnt he ever wrote anything in Italian? Why is his name written always on Portuguese?

There is plenty of evidence around that Columbus was truly Portuguese. Check Wikipedia

In the end, Spain is the richest country on the world, got the best tech speed, one of the largest fleets and the biggest colonial empire on the world at the current moment. Obviously such is not enough, and God's children demand more. The Spanish monarch will do his best to make his people richer and stronger, and he shall suceed, in peace or in war, because, God Wills It!

Burgundy - Flanders AAR

II – 1480-1521

The Times of Ordinariness would be best way to describe this period for Flanders. Not that she was just another ordinary country of course. However this was an age of relative peacefulness for the country, secured largely due to NAPs signed with England and France, and with Brandenburg being passive throughout the period.

Certainly our economy was far from ordinary as well secured a huge growth in these 40 years or so, nearly doubling in that time. This was certainly helped by the wise investments in manufactories we made at the start of the period, with no less than 4 refineries being built. This in turn helped increase our tax income and greatly aided our trade tech spending, As a result we soon got to trade 4, and indeed are well on the way to getting trade 5. In domestic affairs, we became more free trade, slightly less aristocratic and centralised, and our armed forces became more offensive minded, and better quality. We also managed to invest in land tech, making sure we had land 9, as soon as Brandenburg had it. Naval tech was also improved slightly.

Not all was peaceful however, once we had boosted our economy sufficiently, we decided to beef up our navy (not to mention building some forts as well), so that we would be able to defend ourselves adequately. When that was done, it was decided that we would do some invading to get some maps. We looked around for suitable candidates, and decided that Morocco would be the best fit. So our ships with the invasion went down to Morocco and we declared war. Things were progressing fairly well when we suddenly got a ultimatum from Spain to stop our actions. When we protested that we were not after any land, only the maps, they were still not satisfied, and actually sent out their fleet off the Moroccan coast. Since we had no desire to fight the Spanish at this point, we decided to back down, and evacuate our forces back to Flanders. But we will not forget this, we will be more wary and suspicious of the Spanish in future, for being so overbearing and arrogant to think that no-one else can explore the world.
