Hey Guys,

I have Doomsday and Armageddon installed, patched up and C.O.R.E for Armageddon over the top.

I think ive buggered my game up by outwitting the AI lol.

Im playing UK, and i started in 1936.

After reading a bit about how best to use fleets and of course i believe in the military adage "...he who protects everything protects nothing..." i summoned all my world ships to UK till i had a huge gathering of every ship i owned in Portsmouth, my intention being to form them into fleets and protect only UK and North Africa at the start of the game, a clever startegy.

I built 3 fleets of 40 ships and then when war broke out i again divided these 40 into fleets of 10. A good principle and meaning the whole North atlantic was covered by the Royal navy.

Anyway kowing that Germany would invade Norway, i had a fair few fleets patrolling Kattegat day and night making sure there was a strangelhold on germany's naval ports, Kiel, Wilhemshafen etc

Well i think it worked too well. Everything went as ive always seen in the game until germany declared war on Norway. I successfully sank every transport germany tried to send to Norway and now the games gone a bit odd.

Its January 1941. Germany has not invaded France, and is unable to invade Norway and is just sitting there doing absolutely nothing. The event unlocking has not happened, my gut instinct is a few events have not transpired, and i highly doubt italy will declare war on me in march.

It seems that my success at preventing the Norway invasion has blown out the german ai and now i suspect the game from the ai point of view is fubared though it would still be interesting :)

Can anyone tell me if they think this is the case, or is their sufficient oomph in the ai to get around whats happened?

I am going to wait till march 1941 and see if Italy does anything. Im considering invading Nationalist Spain which won the SCW or maybe attacking Italy to try and shift the stuck ai.

Opinions please :)

Hehe, I do that with UK navy too, bring every ship to Norwich and with the level 1's I either sell em or get the manpower, or a mixture of both. I tend to have 2 main battle fleets (with 2 x BBIV) of 18 ships and a few 6 ship fleets knocking about the place by 1939, with another 2 x BBIV due around March 1940 or so, by which time I have usually stabilised the North Sea enough to be able to send 2 battlefleets to the Med leaving 1 in North Sea plus a few 6 ships in reserve (BCIII/IV + 5 screens). I rarely use the subs barring lately using the starting lvl3 subs to protect Alexandria/Tel Aviv coastline from sneaky landings.

I found it very easy to destroy all the transports, but it got a bit too easy, so I dont do interdiction missions in North Sea any more, just combat patrols. Gives the AI a chance to sneak a few through.

Dunno about how to kickstart the Germans off though, maybe a load up as them might help. Perhaps your defences are too good and the AI don't fancy it's chances.

Dang - If only Churchill had known about that...

Yeah, I had that problem too. "Solved" it by reloading as Germany and declared war on the lower countries, and then go back to England again. But the attack came a year late and Italy was not on the battlefield, so it really messed up the game...

I can hardly call using your 20-20 hindsight and exploiting the unrealistic effects of force redistribution (IRL Japan wouldn't have thought twice about attacking India instantly) a case of outwitting the AI. Especially not since the AI doesn't anticipate and therefore literally can't be outwitted. In some ways you've got to cut the AI some slack, since it's simply not very good at what it does and most of the time is forced to do stupid things anyway (like getting its transports killed trying to invade Norway). Just try to act surprised when historical events happen :).

Anyway, starting the game early as the Allies (especially as the US) can be considered an exploit, since they weren't really expecting a war and they sure as hell didn't know the exact starting date four years in advance.

Italy doesn't ally with Germany unless France falls, so if the Germans don't take over France you won't fight the Italians in North Africa.

It's not true. In many games (I played France) Germany freezes in Maginot line, but in 1940 Italy joins Axis and attack.
