Stellaris is nine whole letters. S on its own is not clear enough. Stella is a beer and Stellar is a word already.

When I see STL in a sci-fi context I immediately think Slower Than Light travel, which Stellaris most certainly will not be associated with given the distances involved.

I did get the reference, but for me STL is the Standard Template Library. Although the TLA for STL is STD, anyways I much prefer Stella or Stellaris. Or even Stly
If I say to someone in Belgium I played Stella, they're going to think I went mad. Only naming your game Heineken could be worse !
Americans will also recognize STL as St. Louis, Missouri. So probably not that.
A stellar point, neither of those concoctions deserve to be consumed by anyone.
Since it's just one word, why not take the first and the last letter in it? That way nobody will ever be able to mistake it for any other acronym. "Man, SS is the best thing ever!"
