I’m struck by how small a role others play in his narrative but how he expresses sadness at their absence, whether it is his married off daughter or his dead brothers. It seems that he lives completely in his world of self and only pauses to reflect on the value of others when they’re gone. Then, at the end of the post, it’s back to himself.

Can't dwell too long on what's not there, else the abyss stares back? Forward, ever forward, is his mantra, I guess. :)

Robert seems like the kind of person who cares, but doesn't know how to express it. I'm sure he does care a lot, but lots of showy emotional fluff is not his style.

He cares, but then he gets distracted. He is also godly, but spills a lot of blood. He is complex.

Chapter 15 New
Diary of king Robert of Epirus,
June 20th, 1076

The fool Basileus Raiktor has gone to war with my ally the duke of Duklja. I am placed in a poor situation because of that. I am in a war against the Muslims with the duke. Yet I need to be on good terms with the Romans. They are strong, and have become much stronger lately.

I have sent secret emissaries to Constantinople telling the Basileus that I will not interfere with his war. I will join on the side of his enemy, but I will not send troops. To the duke I have told I am occupied, but will try to reach him before it is to late.

The duke left my camp last night with his host.

Okay I see people ragging on Robert for this but look, every CK3 player has done this.

Yeah, I don’t see this going well. Best of luck in the upcoming Byzantine War! Are you taking bets on how soon you get dragged into it?

If their war does not drag on for too long... Or if circumstances change?

Indeed we all have. :p

Hey, I resemble that remark... :p

For now, focus is on Malta. And, perhaps, on another looming threat...

Chapter 16 New
Diary of king Robert of Epirus,
February 3rd, 1077

The war for Malta is over. But it seems the warring is not over. I am getting reports the Muslims in Tunis has risen in revolt against my rule. Their host is large, six thousand men strong. I will need all my men, all my allies – which thankfully have not sailed home yet – and God’s grace to win this.

I will need to send missionaries to my new lands as quickly as possible, to make good Christan men and women of the population of the Holy St. Augustine.

Tomorrow, we sail yet again for Tunis.

Those allies will never get to go home, will they?

I love the fake out of Duklja, such an iconic CK3 move.

I'm interested to see how Robert fares in Tunis, the Muslims are not going to give up Africa easily.
The forces are equally sized, but our troops are competent!|

Frankly, how dare they. After all the work you did conquering them.

I think the Obama administration tried this approach in Egypt during the Arab Spring. I believe they called it “leading from behind.” I recommend that Robert use this name next time. It’s more impressive.

I hope they don’t lead from behind, Robert.

Their sense of honor is lacking.

Heh, I think I remember that. Yes, yes. Robert is leading from behind, I guess. :p
