June 12th, 1080
The war is going splendid! The Muslim army and ours met in Tripolitania four days ago, and they got decimated. Emir Abd-‘Allah Zoghbadid was captured in the heat of battle, given a few days to rot and today he was presented to me and forced to give up his lands to me.
I have given the land to another nephew, and tomorrow we march west.

Certainly. There are so many of them. And Robert is not a young man anymore, mind.
I had an AAR where there was an empire waiting in the Maghreb. Will I do that again, or will fate show us otherwise?
There is a certain truth to it. Yet stability in the next generation has a certain allure... For sure Normans will rule whatever we take, family or not.

December 22nd, 1080
The holy wars are over. For now. Kroumerie is now Norman. I have given the lands to another nephew. My brothers have really been fruitful over the years!
The last few months have been a mixed blessing. My dear brother Humbert drank himself to death in October. Another good man lost to the bottle. It is a shame.
On the other hand, my rival Gisulf also drank himself to death a month later, almost to the day. He never coped well with losing that war against me. Good riddance! But may God watch over the departed, of course. There is mercy on the other side.
For now, there is peace. I hope I can enjoy it.
