Foreword

Here you have another mad project of mine, mixing two mods that I love since the very beginning, Modern Day Scenario and Kaiserreich: Legacy of the Weltkrieg. The actual game you're going to see through this AAR is some kind of mixing that is explained in a quite few words: I took the MDS scenario and reshaped its borders and twisted a bit its governments to make it resemble, somehow, to the KR world, as it could/would/may/ might developed, according to my point of view, if things have went smoothly and the Comune of France had decided in 1940 to wait a bit longer and to trust in the World Revolution to destroy the last decadent remains of the Capitalist world. As you can see, we're in 2004 and the World Revolution hasn't materialized (yet).

Thus, I repeat, this is not a mod mixing the two mentioned above, but just a heavily modified save. Why not? Because I was unable to do it and this way was "easier". Well, sometimes the truth can be quite silly, don't you think?

I began this dream with my failed (because it was too ambitious and to complex for me to deal with a bit of calm) What if Stauffenberg had failed to save the world?. The lessons I learnt with that AAR were quite a lot, but they can be summarized into two: keep it simple and never, EVER, begin an AAR with a picture of Tom Cruise. Verboten.

Then, Asalto came up with the whole idea with his very successful AAR and "made" me to recover the old proyect, with has been in and out since a bit long. Well, it is no longer asleep. As Asalto himself admits in his own AAR, it is not possible that the world has changed so few since 1936. I know, but if die zweite Weltkrieg had erupted in 1940, now in this alternative TL we may find ourselves without a Syndie block or without the "Central Powers" or the "Entente". And without most of the fun. So, better to avoid it, don't you think? Thus, for the sake of fun, I reduced the plausibility of the story.

In a general overview I can tell you, my dear reader, that instead the "hot" conventional war that we would have seen in the 1939-1945 period (or even beyond), a kind of "Cold War" ensued when the Syndies read wrong the results of the Spanish Civil War...

Chapter One: Bozhe, Tsarya khrani!*

nik.jpg

... Shortly after one o'clock, the prisoners left their rooms. The Tsar carried the heir in his arms. They were both dressed in soldier's shirts and wore caps. The empress and her daughter wore neither coats nor thats, which was strange, some may think, if they were to be moved to another destination, as the Bolsheviks had told him. The emperor, carrying ghis heir, preceded them. The Empress, her daughters and the others followed him down. Yurovsky, his assistant and the two Chekist accompanied them. I was also present. hey did not weep or cry. Having descended the stairs to the first floor, we went out into the court, and from there to the second door (counting from the gate) we entered the ground floor of the house.

Yurovsky led the way into the room that adjoins the lumber-room and ordered chair to be brought. His assistant brought three, which were given to the Tsar, the Tsarina and the Tsarevich. The Empress sat by the wall, where there is a window, near the black pillar of the arch. Behind her stood three of her daughters, Tatiana, Olga and Maria. The Emperor and his son sat side by side almost in the middle of the room. Dr Botkin stood behind Alexei. The maid, a very tall woman called Demirova, stood at the left of the door leading to the store room by her side stood one of the Tsar’s daughters, the Grand Duchess Anastasia Two servants stood against the wall on the left from the entrance of the room.

The maid carried a pillow. The Tsar’s daughters also brought small pillows with them. One pillow was put on the Empress’ chair, another on the heir’s chair. It seemed as all of them guessed their fate, but not one of them uttered a single word. At this moment eleven men entered the room: Yurovsky, his assistant, two members of the Extraordinary Commission, and seven Letts [operatives of the infamous Cheka or secret police]... Yuovsky ordered to one of my men to leave, saying, ‘Go on to the street, see if there is anybody there, and wait to see whether the shots have been heard.’ Then Yurovksi told them that there were rumours in Moscow that they had been killed, so they were going to be photographed prior to the travel, to end those rumours.

We left the Romanovs alone. Outside, we could hear an engine noise. Then, after the final instructions, Yurovski just said, “enough waiting, let’s go”, and, with him leading us, we returned into the room, armed with rifles and pistols, and we formed a killing rank. Then Yurovski took a paper out of his pocket and began to read

For crimes against Russia, the Soviet had sentenced you to death... Your life is finished.

I could see the shock on the Czar's face. He rose up and asked repeatedly "what? what?" Then, when Yurosvky raised his gun I levelled mine against his neck. Yurosvky never knew that he was going to die.I doubt that he ever had time understand before he was thrown into darkness. In a matter of seconds my men shot the would-be killers turned into cattle to be slaughtered. They had time to fire a bullet or two, though, and when the smoke vanished, I could see the Czar bleeding from a wound on his shoulder. One of the servants, Trupp, lied in a pool of blood.

Now it was just a question of reaching the White lines...”

Thus mistery began, Phillip thought. The Imperial family was saved. Now they had to reach the White lines. Only that...

Then a terrible noise took him away from his notes. With a scared look on his face he searched around, while his mind returned in a hurry from the past. Phillip just left the notes over the table and then he saw that the phone had erupted into life. Phillip looked at it as if it was some kind strange animal.

When he heard the happy voice of his cousin Ducky, Phillip began to turn back from the past in which he had been sunk for the last weeks.

-What the fuss happens with you, Phil? Still dealing with that book of yours?

Phillip raised his head, confused, and asked, perplexed:

-Which one do you mean?

From the other side of the line a perplexed silence followed. Then, a silly laugh and the amused voiced of his cousin asked:

-What the heck do you mean by that? Are you writting more than one, you fool?!?!

- Actually, erm, yes -Phillip answered, scratching his neck-. Two books, more or less related... You know, Duckie... I can't help...

-Your eccentricities begin to worry me...

-Ecccentric? Who? Me? Should I remember who has shocked the family by his wedding? By they way, now that I mention the devil... Shouldn't you worry about your new wife, Käthe?

-Oh, -Duckie asked, baffled- she can take care of herself, don’t worry. And of the whole US Marine Corps, I can tell you that.

Phillip raised, searching for something. In the bed, his cat kept sleeping as if the fate of the world depended on it.

-What did you told me about her, by the way? That she was a lecturer from what university? I don't think it was that but...

-What are you talking about, Phil? A lecturer? -Duckie's voice proved that he was absolutely lost at Phillip's question- She' still doing her dregree! History, actually.

-Oh, then, you told me about something beginning with "l".

-D'oh... -a few seconds of silence.

-Hello? Are you still there, Duckie?

-Yes, I am... well... she... I told you that she... is, well, she is...

-Uh? -Phillip was lost at this point. He was quite familiar with Duckie's hability to make a mess of everything, but Phillip felt a bit amiss in that particular moment.

-The first lesbian lady in the fam, you see.

-Oh, I see... -Phillip had his eyes wide open while he imagined the angered face of his auntie, Duckie's mother- I see... that does make sense for the fam to be... Wait! She's keen on girls, then!

-Thank you for showing me the benefits of having a degree... -the amusement in Duckie's voice was a bit painful for Phillip's ego- By the way, me too. I like lassies, my boy. And you too, if I remember correctly, oldie Phil...

-Of course I ... Wait! that doesn't matter now, you fool! Ok, let's see, if you're not a girl, and you’re just a man... I know I’m making sense because I understand what I’m saying, but...

-What? You lost me some sentences ago, Phil...

-Ok, let’s go to the point: how the hell have you married her, if she just likes women?

-I'm just the exception, so to speak... -there was something in the tiny voice that came from the other side that made Phillip to feel unsure of his cousin's sincerity.

-Well, Duckie, tell me please you're not blackmailing her...

-Go to hell, please...

-Ok, ok... I hope that you're going to explain me that, later on, in calm and relaxed way...

- Of course! When our honeymoon is over, Käthe and I will pay you a visit.

Then the line went mute and Phillip, thinking about the chances of meeting again with his mad cousing and his new wife just could utter a single word.

-F.....

Then Mephisto, the cat, made the world know that he was hungry. With a resigned sigh, Phillip got up and went to the kitchen. The Romanov's enigma would have to wait a bit.

* God save the Tzar, the national anthem of the late Russian Empire.

PS: Can any mod correct the silly mistake in the title of the AAR, please? Thanks a lot.

Yay!

The problem is not creating the scenario, but living up to the creted expectations! :D

The force is strong with this one

I hope so...

Interesting premise.
I'm subscribed.

Wise boy.;):p

You Sir, are quite mad.

Just quite? I must work harder, then! :D

Interesting start. Hope we will meet the SyNDieZ soon...

Chapter Two: The world, today

screensave6k.png

1. Europe.

Since the end of the Spanish Civil war (1937-40) and the inconclusive Third Balkan War (1941-43), Europe has remained quite peaceful. This is so due to, basically, to a misinterpretation of the result of the Spanish Civil War.

The stalemate that developed in the front around 1938 and, again, in 1940 -once the Carlist side was crushed by both Royalist and Syndicalist forces-, suggested to the French Syndicalists and its allies that, as the Federación Anarquista Ibérica -which would become, in 1956, the IV República Española, after a bloodless coup d'etat-, in spite of being supported by the French Commune and the Union of Britain, was unable to defeat the decadent Royalist side, which was being helped by Germany and, to a lesser degree, by Austria -after a spectacular volte-de-face once their fomer alliles, the Carlists, had been defeated-, the Central Powers were still too powerful to defy them. This point of view was reinforced with the energetic response of Austria when the Republic of the Sicilies threatened to invade the Italian Federation in 1938, when the Spanish Civil War was going on in earnest.

When the Services de Renseignements Généraux (the Intelligence Service) finally knew that Austria and Germany may not be as strong as they appear to be ("Bollocks", as the former head of the British Special Service, Kim Philby, stated in the 60s), it was too late, as both countries had started a massive programme of re-armament. Cold War ensued.

Thus, as the enemies were too close to attack themselves, the main actions moved to the secondary theatres. Europe would remain a land of spies and sabotages (like the Günter Guillaume affair, the French mole within Germany's political system, in the 1970s; or Jean-Marie Bastien-Thiry, a double agent that the French had introduced within the National France armed forces but which in fact informed both German and National French services of the Syndicalist subversive actions in North Africa in the 1960s), were few noticeable events took place.

Thus, after the turmoil that surrounded the transformation of the Austro-Hungarian empire into a Commonwealth of federated states with a common head of state after the Ausgleich of 1967, Europe has lived in peace, with teh two blocks keeping an eye on each other.

The Syndicalist block is headed by the French Comune. As some humourous analyst pointed out, the "Syndicalist blocl" is united by common suspicion, or, to be more precise, for mutual distrust. Britons, under their Chairman of the Congress of Trade Unions Gordon Brown, are convinced that they are better Syndicalist that their French brothers, while Spaniards claim their own "Third Way" and are looked with distrut by all the remaining block members. Meanwhile, the Republic of the Sicilies is becoming some kind of personal dictatorship of his leader, Silvio Berlusconi.

screensave10a.png
screensave24.png

The main powers of the Syndicalist block

It is claimed that the true Syndicalist block is made up by the Commune of France and the Union of Britain, as Berlusconi and Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero are too volatile a leader to be relied upon, even if the reasons for each single president are quite different.

screensave36.png
screensave9.png

Mittleeuropa, that is, the European Common Market centered around Germany, is the great European alliance that faces the Syndicalist block. Leaded, as said, by the German Empire, gathers all the states which, for fear or hate, want to see the end of the Syndicalist Revolution. As with the Syndicalist situation, it's an alliance that borders the "disunited union", as Germany is sometimes obliged to "take care" of his Austrian cousin, which, in its turn, hates to be helped by his "big" cousin but lacks the strength to keep the Commonwealth together by its own. Faced with the option of "Red or 'Germanized'", Vienna knows what it's best for her. Or so they seemed to think.

screensave26n.png
screensave33.png

The minor allies are a conglomerate of little nations which have a reason to want Berlin's protection, with the exception of Spain, that doesn't seek protection but revenge. Most of them are the minor states created after the Russian defeat in 1918, so they cannot be happy by the reapprochement that the Kaiser and the Tsar have protagonized in the last few years. Vienna, it goes without saying, cannot be in good mood, either.

screensave48.png
screensave0v.png
screensave39.png

It is often said that only the family connections keep the Eastern "German" states together with the German Reich, as it happened in the 1930s with the mad prince, Sigismund of Weissruthenien, who, before his unexpected death, was rumoured to be linked to assassination plots against King Vladmir, his brother.

screensave120.png

Finally, there is the endless rivalry in the Balkans. Once Serbia was finished a as potential power in the region after WW1 and the Third Balkanic War, the mutal hatred between the Iron Guard-led Romania and Bulgaria has caused many political think-tanks to guarantee some kind of Fourth Balkaninc happening in each single decade since 1950s only to be delayed by some "unforeseen" event. Greece, meanwhile, remembers the painful civil war of the 40s and keeps its hatred/love for the Syndicalist cause. An enigma within the Parthenon, indeed.

Nice world you have there, especially the axis of evil that is Sarkozy, Brown, Berlusconi and Zapatero :D.

On a different note, looks like the Ottoman empie imploded.

Interesting premise, even though I find it strange to have so little change in Europe during the 70 years since ~1936. But it's your call.

I noticed that most countries have very low base IC values - is this intentional?

This is...beautiful. :D

I hope you'll be able to add even more explanations ''why is world like this''. Maybe you have learned from my mistakes to see it's not good to have giant black hole between 1936 and 2003. :eek:o

And please don't copy/paste Vietnam war from USA to Germany as I did.

I-i-i-i-i-n Vietnam the average age of the combat soldier was 19. Ni-ninini-ni-nineteen.
(points for guessing the source, I will of course reveal all in my next post!)

Paul Hardcastle is for the win!

"I-i-i-i-in Indochina, the average age of the wehrmacht soldier was nineteen."

"None of them recieved a heroe's welcome!"

:D

Nice update very informative...but God a syndie Sarkozy that's too much for me
Just kidding :D

Berlusconi and Sarkozy are a bit far-fetched to be believable Syndicalist leaders... otherwise, a well-thought setup. Waiting for more to come.

Interesting.

I never liked Brown very much. Figures he would be a Commie. Another reason for me to dislike him. :p

Though I would have thought that Canada would have launched a liberation of the British Isles in the 40s or 50s. Speaking of which, how is Canada doing ?

Berlusconi... as a Commie? That's the most hilarious thing I've ever heard!:rofl:
Oh and please, change Germany's colour, yellow it's not... imperial. :)

Japan wants to talk to you.

Japan wants to talk to you.

I was refering only to Germany, not to Japan...
But excuse me, gray Germany is cooler than yellow one, isn't it? ;)

Don't understimate them... and yes, as I will point out in one of the future updates, the Ottoman Empire is gone.

Interesting premise, even though I find it strange to have so little change in Europe during the 70 years since ~1936. But it's your call.

I noticed that most countries have very low base IC values - is this intentional?

I've thought that Europe can't change its borders without a war, and when it was possible the nations able to do so where not in the best of the situations and then they were able the A-bomb had changed the situation... so I've done just minor changes, like turning A-H into some kind of Commonweealth, time will tell if this is going to last or not...

In short, I wanted a KR Europe in MDS -without the silly Spanish exception/joke/eccentricity- without too much changes, so, there you have why.

This is...beautiful. :D

I hope you'll be able to add even more explanations ''why is world like this''. Maybe you have learned from my mistakes to see it's not good to have giant black hole between 1936 and 2003. :eek:oD

There are some more updates about each single continent on the way...

Nice update very informative...but God a syndie Sarkozy that's too much for me
Just kidding :D

Sarko was asking for something like that...

Berlusconi and Sarkozy are a bit far-fetched to be believable Syndicalist leaders... otherwise, a well-thought setup. Waiting for more to come.

Here, as in some events that will develop, I must say that you have to blame my black sense of humour. I thought that perhaps, if they were born (buttlerflies allowing it) and were educated under the Syndie's heal they would develop into some kind of what they are now but in Red, so to speak. I know that Berlusconi is born in Milan, but I couldn't resist making that very silly joke...

Interesting.

I never liked Brown very much. Figures he would be a Commie. Another reason for me to dislike him. :p

Though I would have thought that Canada would have launched a liberation of the British Isles in the 40s or 50s. Speaking of which, how is Canada doing ?

I selected Brown because of a interchange of comments about Labour between El Pip, Draco Rexus and Trekaddict in "For King and Country" and my imagination went wild. I event mentioned the fact in that thread...

Canada will feature in one of the next updates...;) She's doing quite well, but dunno if her PM will be of everybody's liking...;)

Berlusconi... as a Commie? That's the most hilarious thing I've ever heard!:rofl:
Oh and please, change Germany's colour, yellow it's not... imperial. :)

That's the idea. About chaning Germany's color... well... I decided to keep the colours of the MDS mod just to be sure that no one got it worng.

Japan wants to talk to you.

Beware! Little yelllow men on the prowl!
