In my GC as Russia I have gained a superpowerstatus, and everything seems to become a bit dull. Now I've found fun in diploannexing all those crappy "one province"-countries in Europe. This fun, however, came to an end when my "Royal Diplomacy"-value dropped from four to one, and as a consequence I just gained one diplomat a year, something that made everything less fun. :(

What affects this? Is it the monarch's diplomacy skill? (My monarch's skill was 3 btw) Or is it just implemented as an historical event ?(that Russia became diplomatically hampered in mid 1720's?)

I'm in the same situation (playing Russia, year = 171?).
I just started the diplo-annexing method (Sweden had the privilege to be my first victim) and suddenly, Petr I (I think it was him) died. So instead of 4 diplomats per year, only 1 is available. As far as I know it is just a matter of the skills of your monarch (I'm pretty sure of it). So all the efforts I already did with Denmark, Brandenburg and Saxony are difficult to maintain. I understand you, it's less fun.
But I will see which goal I take for the last decades, surely I keep the fun in it.

It's the monarch's diplomacy skill. In this case, Peter the Great died on you, didn't he? The same thing happened to me at the same time. You'll be stuck at one diplomat until you get Anna and then Catherine towards the middle of the 19th century. The former gets you two diplomats per year, and I forget what Catherine gives you. ;)

Orthodox countries are hampered a bit diplomatically as the only way to get diplomats for them is thru royal diplomacy. Now if u happen to have a shyte monarch, then ur a bit fecked ...

U could alsways go to war, gets u an extra diplomat a year :D
