As one of the few surviving avians of their harsh desert world, the Seth-Veyat have always dreamed of the elusive lush paradise spoken of in ancient lore. As they reach into the stars their goal is to find this paradise among the heavens or the resources to transform their homeworld into their promised land.
The Seth-Veyat League begin their interstellar journey as a peaceful bureaucracy. The harsh unforgiving deserts of their world forging a fiercely materialistic society that values even meager items, with pacifistic undertones brought upon by the necessary cooperation such an environment endeavors.
Purging the slums and ruins of their home planet Se'Praya is, all agree, the first small step towards achieving utopia. As the League beings to explore its galactic neighborhood, great projects are undertaken to bring all citizens into the bureaucratic machine.
Seth-Veyatian scientists soon discover though that resources are very scarce. Due to anomalies dating back to the formation of its region of space, this galaxy actually has 50% less habitable planets than one would expect. There are very few options nearby to expand, and the Coordination Council eventually settles on a world slightly smaller than Se'Praya itself. Large tracks remain wild and undeveloped to the new settlers and it may be many decades or centuries before the colonists can fully exploit their new home. A focus is made on scientific endeavors to develop the technologies to better, and hopefully someday, radically alter these and other worlds.
Shortly after establishing the colony of Driskia, other nearby civilizations are located to the galactic south of League space. Although everyone is desperate for more space, the first two contacts are relatively cordial. One is mammalian (strange!) and another reptilian. Non-aggression pacts are signed and an early incident involving the desecration of a space coffin is put to rest. This idyllic diplomatic state is not to last. Even further south a more aggressive anthropoid civilization has colonized many worlds and promises to bring conflict in the future under a divine mandate.
Non-Aggression pacts are upgraded to defense treaties. Although we three civilizations have different theories on society, our ethics prove largely compatible for cooperation. Especially in the face of the horrifying visage of Avtyrran aggression. Our scientists being scouring the ruins that dot our part of the galaxy looking for ancient technologies or insights that might help preserve the fledgling League. It turns outs their was an older league, a First League, that inhabited this region of space millions of year ago. Artifacts of these precursors are found surprisingly quickly. The Seth-Veyat have always been a practical, secular people, but in the wake of these convenient discoveries, even our most dedicated scientists mutter it might be divine favor. The home world of these ancients is swiftly located.
And yields nothing of consequence...
The science ship makes it way back to Se'Praya to begin its next mission. On the way it stops by a nearby system dominated by a blackhole. Although no planets are believed to exist there, the system may serve as critical transit point to an arid world on the fringe of known space that the Coordination Committee would desperately like to colonize. Planets being scarce and all. The science ship barely enters the Luusaj system when it is obliterated from existence. It's final horrifying transmission confirms that this sparsely populated galaxy is a bleak hellscape filled with terrors:
Our journey for a lush, rich, and secure paradise will be long and arduous indeed.
