The sprite pack

Hey everyone. I should probably keep this post to the mods forum but there's just noone visiting it. Hoping one of you can help me out.

I was wondering why the Sprite Pack and the sprites in stony road installation won't work properly for me. Have a look at the pictures below:

This is a russian tank devision (t32 i bet):

These are brittish airdivisions, I have no idea what plane, it just keeps flashing. Theres another brittish plane thats just purple:

This is a swedish medium tank:

I hope these pictures illustrate my problem. Not all the new sprites are like this, but many. It makes for a really ugly battlefield. Why does it do this? Oh and I often have the problem of the soviet motorized division sprites running across my screen repeatedly. I hope someone knows what I mean ;p

I have a ATI 9500 pro video card, latest divx install

I have Excel's sprite pack installed and other than the odd Japanese fighter who acts like it's drunk, haven't experienced problems. Maybe you can try that one? Or try to get Nighty! or Generallisimo (hope I spelled it right) in this forum, I believe they're the Stony Sprite archivers, not sure though.

Good luck,

Regards,

Low
:p

I can relate Sheo, I have exactly the same problems with the sprite pack.

I have indicated it before, but I don't think everybody has the same problem, although I would find that weird.
It can't have anything to do with video-card performance, I have a new XP machine with a great card, especially for games, so I don't know what to do either..............

I've seen the odd colour block behind the unit image, but these are strange.

Have you tried opening the bmp files to see if you find anything wrong? They should be in gfx\map\units\bmp

You should also check in gfx\palette for the bmp indicating the palette to be used for that unit. Usually problems with colour and transparency come from palette mismatches.

But, of course, if no one else is complaining about those sprites, it could very well be a problem on your end... :D

The *.spr file indicating which bmps to use for display and palette can be found in gfx\map\units (But of course, if you can find the spr, the bmps shouldn't be too hard... ;) There's another recent thread in which i explain (my understanding) of the SPR naming scheme. It should still be hanging onto the most recent postings, with the amount of activity in this part of the forums...

You are talking about the Stony Road sprite pack right? If so, then could a mod please change the topic to "Stony Road sprite pack problem" or something like that, now it get's confused with The Sprite Pack thread. :(

The Japanese fighter sprite is fixed now. There were typos in some of the sprite reference files (the makers seem to have a bad habbit of not going to bed in time if the sprite aint ready ;) ).

Thanks Exel, I'm downloading your updated pack right now!
Keep up the good work!
