Well I just finished playing Leave-6 I encountered a truly elaborate and complicated story indeed. Having previously played through the Kirko campaign, I was expecting something simple like "Kill humans, find Kirko homeworld, bring back Queen, Kirko are the greatest". Face with total confusion, I spent too much time going through the old story messages and it seems the following chronology happened, but it still leaves a ton of questions unanswered.

  1. Jack Gelder and Daiyu Jiang with research detachment head too Dolos Minerva, leaving Michael Valentine, Colonel Garou and Huy Jiang behind.
  2. The Star Union collapses and FTL travel becomes impossible. Shortages of supplies causes tensions within the Vanguard which split into Emerald, Ruby and Sapphire squads.
  3. A fight breaks out between Michael Valentine, Colonel Garou and Huy Jiang's respective squads triggered by disputed possession of a super-hot sexy-android girl called Ilia-5.
  4. The losing(?) side unleashes experimental Promethean weaponry and manages to not only fail to wipe out the other side but also totally ruin the planet they are living on in a permanent fashion.
  5. The surviving Vanguard are shattered. A few join the paragons, a few remain loyal to their leaders and the majority go rogue and become bandits fighting against the paragons.
  6. Unable to leave the ruined planet, Michael Valentine, Colonel Garou and Huy Jiang gather their followers together and go into cyrosleep, waking only occasionally to check that the Star Union has not returned and FTL travel remains impossible.
  7. Over 300 years passes and the world slowly recovers somewhat.
  8. The void storms subside and FTL travel becomes possible again.
  9. The Syndicate arrive, kill Colonel Garou and enslave his Vanguard.
  10. Jack Gelder arrives, having spent 200 years travel back from Dolos Minerva.
  11. Michael Valentine and Huy Jiang permanently emerge from cyrosleep with their followers.
A lot of questions are not answered as far as I can tell.

  • It seems a lot of time passed between the fighting and the devastation of the planet. It would have taken Jack Gelder 200 years to get to Dolar Minerva and 200 years to get back, which makes it 400 years. The conflict (and collapse of the Star Union) happened fairly close to Jack Gelder's departure date because Michael Valentine and Huy Jiang are contemperies of Jack Gelder. The question then why over such a time-frame none of the Vanguard that went renegade did not form their own civilizations independent of the original three squad leaders. Maybe when they did they ended up fighting the Paragons and losing?
  • It seems that whatever also ruined all the Star Union worlds happened pretty soon after the squads used Promethean weaponry to ruin the planet. That is because the squads in their aftermath were not able to leave the planet, an intent implied by how they went into cyrosleep as opposed to trying to survive as petty rulers on the world. That implies that Leave-6 was effectively devestated twice and not once over.
  • Who fought whom and who destroyed the planet? Huy Jiang is known to have initially gained possession of Ilia-5, were Michael Valentine and Colonel Garou fighting him for possession of Ilia-5 or were they fighting each-other over Ilia-5 and then he rescued her as a neutral party. One scenario has an outnumbered Huy Jiang in the kind of desperate straits that would cause him to use the Promethean weaponry, the other has an innocent Huy Jiang sticking out of the war altogether and either Michael Valentine or Colonel Garou lost the war and used the weaponry.
