This AAR is going to be simple and to the point, but I hope you'll like it.

The unification of Greece or The legacy of Alcetid

The three main actors of this period.

January 474
The populist faction is in charge of the Achaean league, and the current Archon is largely viewed as incompetent. Therapon Alcetid, the leader of the military faction, has big dreams for Greece. Greece is weak, the city states ripe for conquest by it's enemies. Therapon knows this, and see it in the burgeoning Roman Empire to the West. Macedon and Sparta are bent on brute conquest, Epirus is doomed and the Aetolians are absorbed in inter factions strife.

The Achaean Confederacy is in need of reform : the peace-keeping philosophers must be stopped in order to prepare for the upcoming conflict. Citizenship must be protected, and through it, the Achean borders. Therapon Alcetid will see to it.

Emissaries were sent in the name of the Achaean Military, and trade was established with Crete and Sparta, bringing back precious Wood and Iron to Achaea.

February 474
Pirates plague the Achaean shores. Alcetid uses this as proof of Achaea's shortcomings. The populists argues against this unnecessary conflict.

March 474
Scandal erupts. Demophanes, the expected winner of the coming elections, is found guilty of bribing senators. Popularity lowers.

July 474
Demophanes is rumored to have falsified the monetary reports of his faction. He claims it it a setup, and some signs point that it might be the doing of a member of another faction.

February 475
The Military faction becomes dominant in the senate. Therapon Alcetid now has the highest support for the next election, by one vote. With the agreement of the Mercantile and Civic faction, orders are sent to build a small flotilla to disperse the roaming pirates and thus bolster the coffers of Achaea.

January 476
End of the current terms of office. The senate vote it's new members. Euripides Thimolid, former Prytanis, takes command of the 1st Nautikon and defeats the pirates. The blockade is finally lifted, two years later. This victory bolsters Therapon's support. He is now four votes in advance over his previous competitor. Only a disaster could now prevent him from being elected.

July 476
Following the defeat of the Pirates in the Synus Cyparissius sea, Alcetid's faction passed a law that specifies the necessity of overspending on the army, insisting that the later benefits will help the Achaean league in the long run. Thus, in July 476, the 1st Stratos of Achaea is now 8000 men strong, from it's 4000 Militia that was part of it originally, 2000 Pezhetaroi (Heavy Infantry) and 2000 Psiloi (Archers) were added, with at least 2000 more planned to join the ranks before the end of 476 AUC.

Jan 477
The last year in the term of Xanthos Zagreid... ([ooc]I believe it's 4 years for an Archon's term?[/ooc])

It will be interesting to see what the Achaean League will do next. Greek minors have plenty of opportunities, because during the early game even the Macedon (largest regional power) is relatively weak.

I think my eyes has just melted after looking at that beautiful map, it did make reading this a little hard...

nah, kidding. It seems that there is a lot more politics in VV. It almost seems like you want the military faction in power, I wouldn't blame you. I suppose you need to conquer in a hurry to become a 2 province minor.

Looks to be quite interesting.
