So it costs 500/600/700... to build a holding and 1200/1800... to upgrade it? This is way to prohibitive; especially when you have Aegon upgrading the red keep twice when he first lands and then building and upgrading Kings Landing and other holdings in a 9 year space.

Upgrade costs should be more in the line of 500 for level 1, 700 for level 2, 900 for level 3 and so on.

I agree, I never upgrade my castles because it is far too expensive.

I agree on the lower levels but it should definitely get a lot higher to really upgrade some things. Once you are upgrading from level 3-4-5 you are adding thousands of troops to your holding and greatly increasing the size of your castle. It should be really expensive. Think of how expensive it would be to increase the size of a castle to that of Winterfell or the Rock. There are only 5 of the highest level in Westeros and they are all almost mythic in their Origin. Casterly Rock is basically a Castle built into Gibraltar, Storms end has impenetrable walls over 100 feet high, Winterfell has two walls over sixty feet high and is massive, Highgarden has multiple tiers of walls. These are really expensive and saving up for them should be a daunting task.

Frankly, I think those castles should have added "buildings" to show just how impenetrable they are, like Storm's End and the Eyrie have. Of course, I agree that it should still cost 1,000+ to upgrade a castle beyond level 3, but the 9,000 gold that it is now is absurd.

Not to mention the chance of failure is too high. I was trying to upgrade a new barony I had built in my holding to the second level and with a decent stewardship level my chance for failure was double my chance of success (which was less than 2%). After 20 years of missed out tax revenue I was notified that the upgrade had failed. Whilst I understand for the top-tier upgrades it shouldn't be easy but that doesn't mean it should be basically impossible for the initial upgrade...

You really aren't supposed to upgrade your castle size hence why it is so hard, the option exists but it is not something you should try to do in a normal game. Use that money to gain land and titles not to build a bigger castle.

Except that it is exceptionally difficult to hold more than maybe 2 or 3 titles without penalty, and getting more vassals only goes so far.

For me, it's mainly an issue of breaking immersion. It just shouldn't cost that much... Also, options for the player are good. Build your small kingdom up, or expand out. Right now, expansion is the only option...

Furthermore, according to the Smoking Sea event, 500 gold is a treasure trove, which you only have a 3% chance to get against a 95% chance to be blinded; yet, to upgrade one holding to level one costs 1200 gold. This is simply ridiculous. I love the mod, but can we please see this adjusted to reasonable levels?

Adding to the frustration of cost, when you Build any of the upgrades that increase levy size you lose men. In my stepstones game I had 1000/14000 men available and it took nearly 6 years for it to refresh (during that time if you build another upgrade it resets)

Thanks for the feedback on this, will look at rebalancing this somewhat.

Will probably lessen the levy/tax malus on the upgrade building, and make the chance of failure much less. The actual high cost of the buildings is pretty much intentional though. The idea of the base value buildings is to provide a fairly static advantage to historically strong castles, and so we wanted to make altering this situation expensive.

Awesome.
