The map looks horrible. The whole pseudo-3D concept is totally wrong, it strucks itself in the middle between the beauty of the 2D maps from EU2 and the awesome 3D maps of RTW

Beautiful EU2 map? Now if there's one paradox game map I find absolutely ugly, that would be it. Victoria, that was and still is a beautiful 2D map. But EU2 just looks terrible in this day and age, on a modern TFT monitor. Are you sure you haven't got some romantically distorted memory/view of the EU2 map? You really did pick the wrong example to compare :) IMHO the EU3 map looks a thousand times better than the EU2 map (..but I still find Vicky's map the most beautiful of all).

Oh, and on-topic: nice writing MrT :)

I repeat, this is how we all play, zoom out, and it is awful.
I don't play EU3 at zoom out. I thought I would, but in effect I find myself zooming in quite a bit, and only zoom out when I look at the political map to get an overview outside the immediate vicinity of neighbours. Basically that is because zooming in and out is damn easy in EU3, and you don't even realise you're doing it when playing.

Scrollwheel?
Yep. Zoom in and out on the fly. It's uber-easy and extremely fast and smooth. While not strictly a requirement, I would strongly suggest that you get a mouse with a scrollwheel if you don't already have one (and they're cheap...mine only cost me $15 or something and most software these days has lots of extra functionality built in for mouses (mice?) with scrollwheels so you'll want one anyway).

It seems it's mouses.

I guess I'd better send a bigger army than originally intended...Unfortunately, my army is mostly infantry but I should be able to get to Madrid before he can, and he'll have to attack me there. The terrain selection for the battle stands a very good chance of being hills which would favour me, and he'll have to cross a river so I'll get that bonus.

Just like in Great Invasions?

Very interesting reading! I'm waiting impatiently to play and write myself... :D

So, T, would there have been a way to keep Granada from being pummeled after you grabbed your spoils, or are we in general resigned to letting our victims be finally gobbled by some other party?

It would seem that you can maxstore no more than 5 of any merchant, settler, spy, etc. I have yet to see a number above that (like the 6 max you get in EU II) and they turn green when they hit 5.
Is that right?
Great AAR, BTW.

Fantastic AAR
As somebody said, where and when can I pre-order this great game? :D

But I wondered about the sieges, I've not seen it mentioned. Will you still need 5k to siege a level 1 fortress? Or will you only have to use 1k because the garrison is only 1k. And if you have more troops than the minimum siege army, will the siege then go faster as in CK? Or will we still se it is best to split your armies as much as possible and just hope you're lucky as Orleans that your sieges got a better dice than the English of Orleanais?

Paradox CAN MAKE MISTAKES and Paradox has to accept and expect bad reviews if they want to improve and progress.
If you talk about mistake from Paradox you meet no better expert than me, having turned the Diplomacy game from the disaster it long was to a small but stabil community with as many MP games as CK or Victoria approxematly, and I say that paradox has made a heck of good job.

Particularly when I did a full uninstall, defrag, and then reinstall for yesterday's patch. :p

This is actually the most important issue in my post, I dont think Johan answered that part. Hey Johan, will you use the same siege system as in CK?
