It would be nice to draw something like a Offensive / defensive line.
The Team - mates would see that (for some minutes) and know what u are going to do.

Like the draw mode in hearts of iron 4.

This and the Flares is all we really need to be honest. It'll allow for communcation between commanders AND give as some quasi-accuracy as your allies don't quite see what your arrow was pointing at and drive a column of Shermans at a Tiger Platoon.

I like this talk about communication tools, we should make a thread about that in it self to be honest. I personally think the total war communication tools would translate perfectly well to wargame.

Sorry for my ignorance, but could you enlighten me the what tools Total War uses?

Didn't they hide the custom deck names in Red Dragon?
I was humorous to see in the lobby that your team was made of "Stalingrad 6th Army survivors", "1258th Field Kitchen Regiment", "Artillery only" and obligatory Hitler.

So you're twelve?
Irony here. 12 year old, haha! Also lets remove this chat because I don't like what people say because it offends me! Many people on this forum might also be 12.

Cancer or not let people say what they want. Free speech and all that jazz.

I don't think free speech means insulting people in a privately owned game chat. I am pretty sure it was meant as a safe guard in democracy so that you could vote for whom you wanted to and believe in what you wanted without being put in jail, not bully and belittle people online.

The right to free speech is to protect you from the government and is concerned with public spaces. You have no right to free speech on someone's privately owned property, physical or digital. Deciding what speech is and isn't permitted on your private property is a form of freedom of speech that supersedes that of the people who don't own the property.

Putting the issue of a chat room in the game aside, I'm tired of seeing people not understand what the meaning is of the rights they supposedly hold sacred.

Putting the issue of a chat room back on the table, as a community member I hope Eugen/Paradox decide that they don't want their private property to be used as a platform to spread vile ideologies.

Yeah... nothing is quite as inviting for noobs clicking 'Multiplayer' for the first time only to see a scrolling wall of swastikas, "PROPANE", 'Hitler was just misunderstood', 'the Jews deserved it' and pretty much every slur in every language imaginable.

There's no reason for it and I hope along with stats being viewable it gets the first cut. We also need a report function in game for abusive chat/markers. I'm sure Eugen can come up with some sort of algorithm to sort out the truly bad people getting several referrals in a game vs one person getting butthurt, and then review and take action.

I'm tried of people thinking free speech is singularly tied to government. Jesus Christ you don't understand the idea at all. You simply don't. You are talking about the constitution not the principle of free speech. Believe it or not being against people speaking freely means you are against free speech and that's okay. Being scared of memes and neo-nazis is rather hysterical though.

Believe it or not free speech is a ideal not a right. The reason the US government has that rule is because they are often the one who can infringe on it most. *Cough cough Canada, Britain, Germany*

Let me define it for you. Free speech - the ability to express oneself freely. It's not that hard to understand and has little to nothing to do with the right to protect against government. That's the first amendment lol. So for someone tired of seeing people not understand it's you who seems to not understand it. It is not the first amendment. That's a protection of free speech not free speech itself.

Edit: Being offended isn't a argument by the way.

And on the steppes and islands far, let us pay remembrance to those who paid the ultimate price to allow us that one most basic right.

To let us post ASCII penises wherever the Hell we please.

Scared is a strong word. More like tired. It's adolescent, it's stupid, and the people doing it either are just kids trolling, or mentally challenged. The spam suffocates the chat so that even if someone wanted to use it for the genuine purpose of, I don't know, discussing the game, they'll be either repulsed by the mentality or swamped under the swastikas anyway. I really see no need to have a neo-nazi echo chamber just as bad as whatever the far-left uses.

Honestly if it's going to be in the game it should be moderated. Free speech (the ideal, not the constitution, not all of us are from the US) means you also take responsibility for those words.

I lol'd.

My stance isn't against moderation it's getting rid of the chat because people like to make memes about nazis. I've never been repulsed or swamped in communist rings or nazi ones or any one. I don't get these points. It's just nonsense I don't take nonsense seriously and I've also seen many discussions in the war game chat despite some of the cancer. I think most people overact to nonsense and don't take it as nonsense. Getting offended or upset is your prerogative but it's on you.

@Graphic tfw when someone makes a personal attack and strawman in regards to a discussion about responsibility in free speech.

Really loving the lack of understanding of what the 1st Amendment actually allows from German Power.

The whole 'private vs public' thing is really whiffing by him.

Irony alert. It's actually going over your head.
I'm not nor have I stated Paradox doesn't have the right. Not my argument. Strawman TM

My point is free speech is a ideal and people can still be against free speech regardless of the government being involved because it's a ideal and that ideal isn't free speech from the government. It's the idea that you have the ability to speak freely in private life as well as public.

Many people have a fundamental misunderstanding of the first. It's a protection of free speech not defining free speech, duh.

"Why not?" isn't an argument either.

The chat isn't used for its intended purpose, it's just used to spread toxic crap, so what purpose does it serve for the game? It should be there, unfiltered, just because you feel like people have unlimited rights to free speech even on people's private platforms? By your logic we should be permitted to use the Steel Division forums to discuss professional wrestling and Taiwanese soap operas without fear of moderation. But if we did that the forum would be unusable for its intended purpose and thus lose its purpose for existing. But this forum is moderated, so it serves its purpose. I would be singing a different tune if Eugen had the time, resources, or inclination to properly moderate a chatroom but thus far they've shown that they do not, for whichever reason. If that continues to be the case, there's no logical reason to have a chat room in a video game that serves no other purpose than to spread a bunch of tweens in brace's edgy 4chan nazi memes.

The great thing about Wargame chat was that anything goes. If you are offended by words of text in a video game chat I don't think I can take you seriously. . .
I think it's great that really on Mitchverr has had a decent argument for keeping it and that was with heavy moderation being present.

The rest of you are actually making no attempt to hide what warchat is in its present state. Thank you. You guys are our best argument against it.

And that is completely meaningless as far as a chat function in a game is concerned. And I've got news for you. Philosophical discussions about what Free Speech is end at the classroom door as the government defines what free speech is and no one anywhere has absolute free speech and for good reason.

You shouldn't be allowed to scream fire in a movie theater when there is none. And there is no good reason to allow a scrolling wall of swastikas in a chatroom. Unless you are on Stormfront or something.
