So where to start?

As a True Blue Aussie I can't go past Australia - soon to be the Australian Empire! (Hah! who am I kidding!)



So here were are, better look around....



This is a suprise! What interesting array of trrops! 20 Garrisons, 2 Inf, 2 Mtn, 6 Mar, 4 Cav and 4 armor. Oohhh! I'm gunna have some fun!



I can live with this governemt. Notice the sliders - I gather all the countries 'round about have similar slider settings.



Landbridges! Yukala has said that he has adjusted the land bridges. WOW! I can invaid New Zealand without getting my feet wet!



Now this is a turn up for the books! Nearly every province is a VP. A quick look around the globe shows that this is the case everywhere! Battles will be for every last inch of land! Ahhhh... the joys of the RISK Mod!

Game AAR

NZ attacks me before I can attack them - the sly buggers! After 3 months of hard sloggiong NZ and I have reduced each others navies to DDs and a few TPs. But I have taken over the NZ Islands and Fiji and Samoa.

At this point my friendly Pacif neighbours - 'Pacific Fire' attack - Damn them to Hell!!!!!!! Their navy is pristine and soon sink the rest of my DDs and my TPs scurry for safe harbours.

At this point I decide that I have done enough for a first attempt. And will now examine another country!

As of Mid June 1930 the world is at war. There is hardly a nation that is not at war with at least 2 bordering neighbours.

The land bridges is the way to get neighboring AI's otherwise seperated by water to DoW each other. This is how I get them to cross back and forth the Pacific and Atlantic, just connect in at least one place. Also as you have noticed, ones navies can die, dispite starting at a good size. Yet you could hold on having two whole countries and re-build your navies. Yet Pacific Fire has twice the OOB navy as any other country, but soon even that will get bogged down all over the Pacific.

As in the classic Risk game board I have not connected South America to Africa though, but am still thinking about how to get it done elegantly. Maybe. Another challenge is not let them get clogged up at these connections points as well.

How much damage did you take from the AI air? Either to your navies, land units or strategically to IC etc. ? Or even to your own air ?
 
Looks good, didn't know there was a land connection to New Zealand.
 
Those land connections are recent. Played with it different ways, but settled on those. I found Australia most fun if attacked, connected on many sides. :D

From Australia is the favorite of many an old Classic Risk player. Done well Australia be the base for a vast empire.
 
So where to go now?

One of my favourite countries - got a soft spot for 'em!



Yes you guessed it the U.S. of A!

The Government is set it seems so no fiddling with the members of the Cabinet.
In the US that is not really a problem. Notice the excellent IC. Lots to play with!
Also notice same Goverment type as the Aussies.



US territory is a little less than it use to be!

I am surrounded by freedom loving, gun toting Confederates, Axis of Evil fearing Texans,
West Coast Hippies and Red wine swilling Quebouise.

If I Didn't know better I'd think it was a conspiracy!

Anyhoo - who will I attack first.... must think....



Those dirty frogleg eating, cheese smelling Northerners!
They got the drop on me! So to war we go.

BTW I am not the only one being attacked.



These are a few of the DoWs from the first couple of weeks!



A typical Naval Battle. We have simiar fleets, and I thought I had the edge - but I was wrong!
The AI is very smart. I'm warning you! (Although it could be I am just too dumb!)

I was going to do a screenie of the AI bombing my ports, reducing my fleet to ZERO!!!!!! but it was too humiliating.
By the end of the war with Quebec, I had hardly any ships left.
After I Dow'ed the confederates - I had none.
Fortunately by then I had built up a respectable Naval Bomber force to keep my coast reasonably clear of landings.



This screen shot is a little ahead of the story, but explains certain things.
I got distracted.
Once I had taken out the Quebecoise Army, all that was left was to take VP points.
At that moment my wife called out and reminded me that my favourite cooking programme was about to start.
Even RISK HoI2 takes second place to Iron Chefs!

When I got back, I realised I had not paused the game.
Fortunately, no-one had DoWed me - but I was behind in the tech race by at least a year.
When I finally DoWed the Confederacy, I was fighting against one level more advanced infantry, armour and HQs!.



So anyway, I annex Quebec! And what do I discover?

A revolt risk in the 60's! Dammit! Yukala, you sly dog! What is going on here!
Will this level of Revolt risk stay constant, or will it decrease over time?

I need answers! Whatever .... In the short time this means Garrisons on nearly every province.
This is going to eat up MP and play havoc with my TP and Paritsan levels.

Every week there is a revolt. And these Militias like to attack you - the cheeky buggers!

To conclude my US empire report. I had finally reduced the confederates to a few garrisons and some pesky cavalry.
All that was left was the mopping up.
When Bammo! The game crashed! It is always frustrating when that happens.

Advice to all you little kiddies out there. Save Monthly (autosave) and manually save whenever that feeling of dread comes over you
(once every 10 daye or so seems about right)
 
The revolt risk reduces s-l-o-w-l-y over time but MP and Garrison will take care of it swiftly enough. Rebels are tough. The original TP load idea is that it goes way up as you expand your empire; then you attend to it, take a breath as it goes down and start expanding again. This keeps running over the world at a slower steady pace for whoever can.

Eating two countries, should give some digestion problems and looks like you need to attend to rebuilding that navy. :D

Without ships, you best build some paratroopers for the Bahamas and take them BEFORE the Confederates decide to hold up there. That is a hint. :cool:

I am trying to figure initial starting position. I think that is crusical for the human player. The AI is tough!

Great work!

Just deploy garrisons to the boarder and start building infantry. Since there are relatively few mobile units at the beginning of the game you should be able to slow them with garrisons until more troop are produced. Playing as Russia, there's no way you can guard all your boarders but it will take the enemy a long time to take a lot of IC.

My production queue. Notice the masses of Artillery. I discovered they add to your speed. Light +1, Medium +2 Heavy +3 I don't know what happens after that I have not researched any further.... yet!!!



Ahhh... here we come to the question

I have noticed that the only country so far with an excellent compliment of tech teams is the US. I'm wondering if you have given countries different strengths. Notice the chappy doing the Basic Machine tools. No little industry icon. The one that you need to really eat into the industrial techs. This would certainly slow their industrial buildup. But then, maybe Russian can become such a behemoth that it needs some handicaps.

On the whole, though, the skill sets of the tech teams are high on points but scarce on skill components. I think that is well done BTW.

Finally....



I thought I would take out the Ukraine. Hah! Even before my Garrisons have hit the ground (still strat deploying troops) I am DoW'd by three of my peace loving neighbours.

Next update will be a full take over the world or die attempt. So stick around!
