Look like my cd is broken, might be wrong.

I've tried to install my game after a reinstall of windows, but i get this message:

victoria_installfejl.jpg

At some point during the install, and then the install stops, and then i'm not able to access my cdrom drive after. It's the only game i have problems with, so i'm sure the cd is broken.

There's not visible damage on the cd, it's looks as new as when my gf got it for me for my birthday in march, since i've only used it once to install the game.

Is it possible to get a replacement cd, or do i have too buy the game again?

Btw i'm running windows XP if it matters.

Might be if you still have the receipt - just bring the disk to the store of purchase and explain that it no longer works. Point out the lack of scratches and visible damage and hope for a good store policy..

To check if your CD itself is actually damaged, copy it's entire contents to a temp directory on your hard drive. If that doesn't produce any errors, then your CD is still fully functional and readable. It it produces an error during the copy, then you have a damaged CD.

If the copy was successfull, try to run the setup from that location on the hard drive. If this works, then at least you have your game installed, but it does indicate that something weird is going on in your Windows installation.

Maybe, at least.. IIRC copying .dll files from EU2 CD to HD is impossible (In Swedish version EU2 you have to copy all files except setup.inx and the four .dll files to HD to be able to install at all...)

My point being that some files might not be possible to copy to HD by design?

How old/well-used is the CD-ROM? I have received read-errors from CD-ROMs that are on the verge of breaking down so it might not be the CD itself that have any errors. This, coupled with some CD protection schemes out there may cause read-errors.

As already suggested try to copy the files to the HD or even better test if it is possible to install the game on another computer, in order to rule out faulty CD-ROM reader.

Yup, a CD drive that is on the virge of breaking down can produce all sorts of unexplainable read errors. Usually, this interim modus doesn't last long though. If the laser diode is on the end of it's life cycle, the drive usually will break down permanently within a couple of days.

I've asked my gf to look for the receipt for the game when she comes home form work.

I will try copying the cd to my harddrive, but i must say i have two cdrom drives, one dvd and one burner, and i have tried them both... i will post the result from the copy later.

Well something is wrong allright. In windows exploder frose when i clicked the cd icon, and windows went mad and nothing worked. Tried both my cdroms.

But on my linux server i was able to open the cd drive and copy the files, then for the first time ever my server crashed.

Now i'm waiting for it to start up again so i can check if the files are still there, and see if i'm able to install over network then...

Will be back.

Ok i've was able to install the game after i copyed it to the harddisk of my server.

I have also tried to install HOI just to check my drives and i was able. I will check victoria on some other computer to se if it works.

But i pretty sure the disk is busted, and in the likely event that my gf didn't keep the receipt (since its a long time ago she bought it) will paradox replace it prehaps for a small fee, or will i need to go out and buy a new copy?

That would depend on what version you had.
Pardox is most likely the developer and not the publisher or distributer of your version.
THey are the ones you would want to contact regarding any possible replacement.
Their logo should be on the CD.

Yes Pan Vision would be the ones to talk with, try it in another system first though to be sure.

Well that was my first opinion, a compatiblity problem, with install shield.
But he said he tried two CD drives. I also did mention to try it on another system first. ;)
