Hey guys, I recently got very addicted to Paradox Games and was thinking about getting this game. How is this game? Is it fun/addictive. What kind of game play is it? Is it like a minecraft type game? Please let me know. And if I should get it what xpacs/DLC is a must with this game? Thanks all...

Did you play Dungeon Keeper or Dungeon Keeper 2? If so, then AGoD is a must-buy.

As for the XPACs/DLCs, it's up to you, I suppose. The autumn one is the only must-have, IMO, but the rest are all nice.

It is accurate to say Game of Dwarves is more a building game than dungeon keeper was, but less a defense game than dungeon keeper or evil genius was. You have more options of what to build and where so if you enjoy that I'd pick it up. If you are looking for a challenge (that isn't created by you) or some elements of danger etc i'd give it a pass.

Hopefully patches or DLC will change this :) and we'll get the unexpected happening, invasions, thieves etc. Who knows, but at present I think that is a fair assessment. It is also a very casual friendly game, that will appeal to people who just want a bit of idle fun.

I'd also advise playing without the question marks telling you where the dangers are, as this puts a bit more thought and some basic strategy into the gameplay, mineshafts as an example or points you need to defend.

Disclaimer: I wasn't a huge fan of Game of Dwarves, or at least not the version I played on release.

The game wasn't very similar to Dungeon Keeper 2. It's was more like a very "lite"/playground version of games like Dwarf Fortress. Usually you wouldn't ever lose unless you rushed through the game recklessly.

To me Game of Dwarves gameplay felt... unfinished. I had bugs with resources disappearing from the resource bar, enemies teleporting all over the place and other strange or odd events (some of which were "features", others bugs). I liked the sound and art, and decorating the dwarf settlement was fun.

There aren't many (good) Dungeon Keeper-like games around at the moment, though I believe Paradox has a team working on one called Imperia. For other Dwarf Fortress-like games you've got Gnomoria and Towns if you're looking for a challenge and a bit more gameplay depth.

Amen to these. I tried getting back into DF after 6 months of not playing only to find I had to figure out how to play all over again x.x I stopped after a bit because having to look up keyboard commands for a game I've been playing for a year was just... silly and cumbersome.

The GLARING problem with DF/Gnomoria/Towns is that after a certain point, you die to lag because your computer just can't keep up with all the pathing.

I have yet to worry about that ever in this game and I can concentrate on just building my fortress and making it look impressive. :) It's well worth the price if you want a casual time killer that will actually play.
