History is written by the victors.

Good point. Large parts of human history have been written by the defeated starting from classical Greece (the couldn't-even-beat-Sparta Thucydides and ran-back-with-tail-between-his-legs-from-Persian-misadventure Xenophon). We should question the veracity of these spurious accounts more since they don't conform to the adage that history is written by victors.

For example, large amount of Roman history was written by the defeated Greeks, but did it really happen? Was there ever a Scipio Africanus as described by Polybius? Did Kingdom of Jerusalem even exist? Who here has read any Ayyubid accounts of it?

Another obvious example: the popular history of the Eastern Front in WW2 was literally written by defeated German generals and no-one read the Soviet victors because of Cold War politics.

The Victors are often too busy to write History. They have people for that. People who may or may not have agendas of their own. : )
