Meh. Austria could've owned Germany ;). We were just too occupied fighting the Americans and the French.

Check out the combat losses. I think Austria deserves a victory for that, as it shows it's done the most fighting.

He-he John. You know I could have smashed you any day the last 50 years in a fair 1 vs 1. I have many times run my eye over your relatively unfortified possessions and smaller armies with much less guns and told myself that they really needed a ruler that took better care of them. :D

But finally my rightful character won the battle over my gready character and continued with our friendship that we both gained much from. :)

But this game surely ranks about the most memorable in the history of EU MP. For two things

- Zeitgeist´s intriguing and exciting new award system
- the late ending date

BTW, would be interesting to have a vote for the most pioneering campaigns in the history of EU MP. I believe there are still some players around who played in the early ones, like young Mulliman, who can judge :D

Start up the thread :).
It was a long time since we had one of those fun discussalizing threads anyway.

Well, maybe while I was busy fighting France and the Americans ;). I knew you wouldn't backstab me though, because iirc you've never backstabbed anyone in your eu2 career :). I was too conscience stricken to backstab you though also, knowing you would've put me on your list(worse than the list I'm already on).

When you both have close to or over 1000 MP, it no longer really matters, unless the war rages for a very long time. I had few guns during peacetime because guns are expensive to support, and with 1300,000 man standing armies, a full complement of guns gets really expensive to maintain. The plan would always be to build artillary a few months before war if its offensive, or spend a few months after a dow in defensive wars repositioning to use the new cannons. We would've had the same amount of guns- the only difference is you would've been caught off guard thinking I didn't have as many ;).

The reason I don't fortifiy up very much is that in this era forts don't have a very good survival rate against good leaders. I can handle a few stabhits, them being only about 700D, the same as a month's income. It's much better to keep the 40kD or so I'd have to spend to upgrade all strategic provs to large or better and just invest in stab when I need to. The other upshot of having small forts is that it's much easier to cut off the enemies supply when he invades far into your country, though that's only happened 3-4 times in the 18th century.

Finally :)

No, in all seriousness, I'm sorry I wasn't around as much near the end-- I've just been swamped in research and grad school apps, so distracted to say the least. But thank you all for participating, and HAL and KJ for providing so much help and ultimately running the game :)

Your welcome. I was glad I can continue it.

BTW If you will make any ugreades to program, let me know. I am starting TfG II and will use it.

All,

Finally over, eh?

This has been the most protracted game in EU II history. Congratulations. :D

Frankly, I thought it was dead after Drake quit. And that day we went three hours without a game and then you guys left without me... :D I'm shocked to see you made it to the 21st century.

It's an EU II record.

Regret now, regret ;) But seriously, it was big hit for game when we lost you. It was almost mirracle that we continued after you and Drake left.

And HoG, our dear Germany can claim a place in top - perhaps even victory - after a little AI-bashing in the last round, ending up owning all of Scandinavia and Great Britain ;)

I will never tell, that there was winner in this game. None was able to win without cooperation of allies.

Thumbs up for playing so long!

I subbed once in this game and was perplexed by the massive armies I saw :D

Army: 1100k vs 900k :D

Navy: 3500 vs 2700

That was the only reason for which you was be able to fight my USA ;) If not GER help and OE neutrality who knows how our constant wars would end.

Anyway, I am starting new THIRST FOR GLORY II. It is already fullfilled with players, but I am sure some will not show up on friday, so If anyone from "old guard" want to continue (Dago and Drake already signed) I invite.

John,

Very interesting read!

I doubt your artillery tactics is wise if you are attacked on a broad front. I would penetrate 2-3 provinces deep on say 4 different points in less than 5 months (my artillery heavy armies would smash yours and to assualt would take less than a week per fortress) reaching Wienna and other MP-heavy provinces of yours. However, if e.g. FRA had attacked you, then you would have had a much more tight front with great depth for you and then you could easily use this artillery tactics. So in fact you played brilliantly by playing me the player instead of my nation.

I take your remark

as a compliment :) although not all EU players would. ;) And of course you are right, I have never backstabbed anyone... who did not deserve it. :D
